I think Rabin is using an octave divider that doubles the note an octave lower.
This can be a problem intonation-wise with any guitar even if the intonation is set perfectly. Plus it sounds like he's hitting that open-A a little too aggressively, also causing intonation shift.
i love this song to death, but someone is woefully out of tune on this.Im guessing its Trevor Rabbin, his bottom E string, its sharp!! its supposed to be dropped to a low C. if you listen , your ear will constantly tell you, somethings not sitting right. and its downright annoying!!!! ahh the drama's of live performance!!
I Love Big Generator, what an amazing album some of my favorite Yes songs, Shoot High Aim Low, Love Will Find A Way, Rhythm Of Love..outstanding songwriting & musicianship from the amazing Trevor, & Jon, Chris, Tony, & Alan were all so tight, crafting an incredible album that had superb songcraft.
I'm 30 years old - my dad used to play this on cassette in his T-Bird driving me to school. The whole album through. And for the longest time, this was the HEAVIEST song I'd ever heard. And honestly, it kind of still it! The bass is astonishing, the drums are thumping, the guitar is screaming. I will never NOT thing that this is the best album they ever had due to how intrinsic it is in my childhood, heh.
After this show they cancelled some shows. Trever was sick. In fact it's lucky this show wasn't cancelled. The night before at the Tampa Sun Dome they had to stop the show before Roundabout. They did not do it. Trever was ill.
Wow the Sporthole does bring back memories, very good recording for what !984? MOSKII...I saw Journey there too, also ACDC, Rush, Foghat, and I think ZZ and BOC....when did it finally close?
I agree that Rabin and Kaye do rule. I wish I'd seen this show, but I was 12 at the time and had not yet hit my rock concert going years. Had the cassette though!
My favorite part of the song is "Flying out the soft machine, we offer all surprise to you...
Praise oh praise this anthem generator" It comes out of nowhere and is super spooky. I listened to this song a million times when I was in Middle school and that part always pumped me up.
It's a shame how Yes kinda vanished after "90125" brought them back. This album took so long to make that they really missed the opportunity to make a big follow-up smash. I always liked this album. "Big Generator" the song always struck me as an attempt to rewrite "Owner of a Lonely Heart," and I thought they pulled it off pretty well.
I've been listening and enjoying these tunes for years. Now, I'm feeling the pressure on the keyboardist.... ( ya, you know who you are ) damn.....who can keep up th tradition?)
wow the hollywood sNortatorium, i've seen many a show here, Styx,Clapton,BTO, Van Halen(one of Sammy's 1st w/them),Heart, Firefall,The Doobies,Billy Joel(3x),one of my favs Boston (1977) their 1st tour i believe,they were so hot at that time,original line-up
The Grateful Dead (lol) amoung others i will miss that place..even though it was a hassle to get to , out in the middle of nowhere!! almost left out Journey twice once on the "anyway you want it" lp/tour & once w/ Randy Jackson on Bass!!
I remember planning on going to this in Jacksonville , but then they cancelled, b/c Trevor Rabin had to have his spleen taken out...OH WELL..... But its cool to see this posted! Any YES w/ Trevor Rabin totally rocksin my opinion!

He is not out of key, he is using light strings for a heavy song

Such an empty stage producing such a big noise. Yes, Rabin is out of key...but I absolutely love this generation of Yes. Awesome!

@TheKorgboy99 Tony Kaye's rig is two stacked Yamaha KX-76 MIDI controllers. What synthesizers he has hooked up to them is what I want two know.

Well, I'm more into 70's Yes (and by that I mean near obsessed) but this stuff is pretty nice.

Love this tune and love that they threw everything and the kitchen sink at it to do it live. Actually the entire Big G album is amazing.

Am I the only one who noticed that Trevor's guitar has it's Low-E string slightly out-of-tune?

I remember going to a Rush show in 88 - this was played over the PA at high volume ten minutes before Rush took the stage...the place went crazy!!!!
Awesome!

I always see lots of people wearing Rush tour shirts at Yes shows and visaversa. Many common fans I believe. The best two bands in Rock IMO !
