Fiber Optics WERE an option for Chevy in'68....My '68 SS impala Conv 396 also had them, and was in all the paper work also.
As far as the hide away headlights,i have yet to see an Impala with them from the factory, but,i love the look and was going to put them on mine, but sold the car for my daughters wedding, wish i had kept it,great rides and in my opinion the best looking of ALL impalas.
Not all 18 year old kids ruin cars. I bought a 67 SS396 when I was 18. It`s restoedt original now, except for 15x8" and 15x7" Rally`s. four speed, Belero red. Comfortcontrol. F-40 suspension package. Alls I need for it now, is the correct am-fm stereo. It was pretty loaded with options. solid body. I paid $2800 for it running. I rebuilt the engine, ith a few internal mods. stock on the outside. I have my Grandmas 68 Impala 2-door she bought almost new also.
.............. *facepalm* don't be ignorant and think you're smart, because if you were you'd have realized I was basing my statement off of the common knowledge that Inflation has ruin the hopes and dreams of many younger muscle lovers and allowed ignorant rich boy pricks to buy and proceed to destroy classics like the kid with a 68 Camaro on the next plock over from me. who puts 22's on a 68 camaro then uses spray paint to paint the car before they fix the crumpled in front grill...
@ITS4390 It isn't inflation so much as the rarity of these cars...these Impalas were the heart and soul of American in the 1960s, and their value is nostalgic more than anything else. Corvairs handled better, got better mileage, looked as nice, but didn't have the powerful engines of the other Chevys and so are very cheap to buy even today.
@gojoe283 yea I can see where you are on that. kid on the next block got his camaro taken from him. his uncle and dad took the title and are fixing it right. they realized he didnt deserve it hahaha
thats allot of options .. and to think the 68 Road runner was a stripped Belvedere with police suspension and a 383 dual quad ... it didnt HAVE options lol
not all eighttenn year olds ruin cars, i'm restoring a 67 427, the origional motor was stolen so i putin a ls7(427) out of a wrecked vette, and the rest is going back to factory, except a cherrey bombglass pack from 68 when cherry bomb came out, i'm thinking a sky blue with chromeflakes
I know a guy that is selling a 68 impala ss 427 it has the original 4 speed and he put an ls6 454 in it, with a blower on it and he still has the original hood for it, and its all original.
The 68 was one of my favorite impalas, and this one is gorgeous. However, the hidden headlights had to added later, because they were Caprice -only from the factory. Still a wonderful Z-24 car...Bill H.
Some Z24 Impalas had the double-ringsed lights. The factory guys did stuff differently to different cars during assembly. Some 68s got a "SS427" logo on the front side marker lights, some had "427" in black. The reddish "427" indicates Canadian built cars.
Actually, the car in the video is built in Tarrytown NY. EVERY US factory used red 427 marker light inserts. They were used on all 427 equipped B bodies that were not SS427s. Around February some US factories started running out of the "SS427" style and simply used the red ones instead. This car was built in late March.

The hood paint & 427 markers along with the plated rear axle cover bolts are bogus but Fiber-Optics were a Factory Option on 1968-70 Chevrolet B-bodies.
My dad had a '68 Impala 4 door post. Came with a 275 horse 327, swapped for a 350 at 68k miles, which was swapped for a 400 small block at 201k, (the 350 had 110k on it when it was put in...) which was pulled when the frame rusted in two at 350k. The 400 smallie is in my 85 Chevy truck now approaching 400k on the engine and 200k on the truck. Doesn't smoke, knock, tick, peck, click, clank, or backfire. It has lost some compression though, it'll actually crank when hot now. lol.
Probably saved it from being a lame hopper with lots o' big fake plastic chrome and half-assed "restoration" with 95% of the money going into the stereo.
nice nice glad it was restore to bad gas is $4.00 gal and 9mpg sound like the door buzzer still works. might of been a brass hat or car order for the chevy show what no corsa or monza spyders ??
dammmmmm nice car

Yes, it's Steve's car. Hopefully soon to be out of hibernation! Will be bringing a 65 409 Biscayne to the valley this year.

This is Boris Arnolds beautiful SS427.
gojoe283 10 months ago
@gojoe283 What a great car, huh???
CORVAIRWILD 10 months ago
@gojoe283
That is incorrect. While Arnold's car is also built at Tarrytown, his car has a teal interior. This car has parchment.

I seem to recall the hideawy option. Was it on the window sticker I read from??

Is not true, looks like that the SS427 could have them too as well as the double-ringed Caprice rear lights.

Sorry gents, this is a fine one of a kind but the car did not come with fiber optics, they are from a Buick. Check the build sheet.
