That's something I've asked myself a ton, too. He doesn't look like a dude until Portrait of Ruin.

@AliceinNirvanagarden That's because Eric was originally intended to be a female named Erika Lecarde, though stuff got changed and the boxart was already done so... "meh let's release it anyway".

And the reason Eric has blue colored hair in game is because of palette limitations, same reason Link's hair is pink in Zelda a link to the past.

@alveinknight That's a myth about Eric originally being female. I hear it all the time but no one has a shred of evidence to support it. Were Soma, Juste, Alucard, and SotN Richter supposed to be female as well?

@Plingio Yes there's no evidence to support it, at least none that I know, so that should qualify it as a myth. Still, just looking at eric's earlier design you can notice he has feminine features and proportions, contrary to what he has in later designs.

And no, just because Eric might have been a female character doesn't means other characters with similar features should have been as well.
