  • it is your best ever video i am literlarry crying

  • Absolutely beautiful. Makes me want to cry. The music and the trains. Just amazing. It's amazing how we get wrapped up in these machines.

  • stunning

  • that moment that the engine sheds were transformed to what it was lik today is just stunning... you wouldnt have thought it could happen, but it could...

  • Well DONE! This vid is awesome! I like the smoke effects on the steam engines!

  • Wow I just love how the trains just burst out of the tunnel straight with all that steam.

    Brilliant Video

  • ... that's so beautiful, and I love the music you added! I love the steam engines - they're alive! :-) Is it your model railway? Yer talented - and the photography is wonderful! My daughter watched it with me - she has her own Lego Train System! :-)

  • @sainterosette

Thanks for your kind comments. Yes it's all filmed on my model railway, which I try to make as realistic as possible. I'm currently filming Episode 3 and hope it to be out in a week. So don't forget to subscribe to keep updated on the series ;-)

    Best Wishes

    Tom

  • I love the sound of the whistle, the rhythm of the rails, and the stories my imagination comes up with every time I see these steam engines! Thanks for posting an excellent walk down memory lane.

  • @angeljenny55

Many thanks for your kind comments. I'm working on episode 3 which should rekindle those steam memories....Stay stuned :-)

    Tom

  • Excellent video there mate, here is 5-stars!

  • wooow is that live steam ?

  • @DelticMattV2000

    Hi mate

If only live steam gave those results. It's a smoke machine I use.

    Cheers

    Tom

  • how much was it and how does it work?

  • @TopGearFan09

sorry chap secrets of the trade, don't like to give away all me secrets ;-)

  • okay well i'll just have to find out another way:D

    TGF09

  • WOW!!!!!

your videos keep getting better and better, i mean those smoke effects in the tunnel and at the sheds they're amazing and then your railway itself that is also amazing and the sound effects are the icing on the cake:D

    Fantastic job!

  • very enjoyable video, great engines and very impressive effects. I sometimes run a Silver fox on my Isle of Wight layout when nobody is watching, but that is a secret :-)

  • Very very nice

  • Well made video, as goes for the railway, great job well done.

  • @howarth004

thanks chap! Found Elgar's Nimrod just works so well.

hopefully episode 3 will be a notch above this.

    Thanks again

    Tom

  • excellent video r u a cleaner on NYMR?

  • @thelnerrules

    I am indeed :-)

  • Great video and those are some really cool engines. I am amazed at how long they were in service. Your smoke coming out of that tunnel was really cool, it really makes one think about how it must be to ride through a tunnel on one of those trains.

  • Thanks mate... i guess back in the old days you had to remember to close the windows when in a tunnel!

The age of the engines ranges quite a bit, the Peppercorn A1 class (KESTREL and the loco seen in the opening shot) were scrapped far too soon, some had only been in service for 15 years. Some locos built in the late 1950s were scrapped after about 5 years. A real waste when they were designed to last for 40 years or so.

  • Stunning video 5*

  • @ay76

cheers bud, glad your enjoying my vids, trailer for episode 3 of North Eastern Steam is probably my best, gives a glimpse of whats planned for the episode! :-)

  • You've put a lot of work into this, good on you. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

  • Thanks for the sub.. and I returned the favour, as I LOVE model railways.. but sadly right now I don't have the space for even a small one!! But sometime in the future I'm looking to getting at least something in N gauge.. :)

  • @BasicModelling

Glad you are enjoying it. I'm proud of this video as it was the first to employ the smoke effects. Check out the Episode 3 Trailer, at was my last uploaded video ;-)

  • I will when I can.. now I'm off the computer for a little while.. needed elsewhere.. :)

  • Just caught up with this Tom, an excellent video, as you say, it is quite an emotional film. The sequences of trains bursting out of tunnels were particularly effective.

  • gwr is the best :)

  • Just back for another look, amazing so few were preserved once you start doing some reading on the subject.

Then again you can't hold onto the past forever

  • Thats true Leo, you can't hold on to the past, it's just the fact that a large amount of loco classes are completley gone, especiall ex LNER locos which I model. It was not until the A1 Steam Trust which I give money to, decided that a new Peppercorn A1 should be built, seen as the rest were all scrapped. 49 locos all gone....

  • what song is that?

  • Hey Tom, merry christmas and all that,

brill video the last piece where the shed fades and your left with the 08 shunter that really adds something to it.

an exellent tribute to the railways of old.

    many regards Chris

  • no wait it wasn't 60130, who was it?

  • if it's the shot used at 2:14 then it isn't an A1, it's a Britannia class loco 'Black Prince'

Glad you are enjoying it Whitehouse :-)

  • i couldn't resist watching this video again

the camera angles really give the layout and engines a realistic effect. my fav clip is where 60130 rushes out of the tunnel and the cload of steam following behind it. it just makes me think i'm there, leaning over the fence, seeing it go by.

    brill just brill : )

  • Very good Tom. Will you be at Grosmont at all over Chritsmas/New Year?

    Paul

  • Hey mate.

Was surposed to be fire lighting yesterday, but due to the weather I had to pull out with how things were over here in the Yorkshire Dales.

I'm down for lighting on Sunday 3rd Jan :-)

  • It's a shame Silverlink was never preserved. As the 1st A4 it would've been nice :)

  • It's a real shame none of the original quartet were preserved i.e Silver Link, Silver Fox, Quick Silver or Silver King.

AT last the NRM has the original Fox off her side preserved!

  • Very beautiful and emotional - terrific stuff.

Well done will mark it as one of my favourites!

    All the best

    Stewart

  • Simply superb! Beautiful.

    Rob

  • Aaah Tom how moving, my heart skipped a beat when 60017 came into view.

The First A4 I fired in the 60s, such a shame she was not preserved.

Many thanks for all your hard work and for giving us all such pleasure.

I hope Santa makes your wishes come true and the new year is full of goodness

    for you...........merry Christmas Gerry

  • This...is...beautiful, Tom.

Your love for steam is truly expressed through this video, and is something to be admired. I adore your execution of this video, tied in with the great score in the background.

I also want to emphasize how realistic 3:17 and thereabouts was. Great lighting!

Superb work, Tom, you should be very proud.

  • Thanks very much Rich, this means a real lot!! Thanks

Currently adding new locos to the layout! My layout at present represents late 1950s early 1960s. And all BR passenger locos are in Brunswick green which im finding a bit boring, so now adding locos form late 1940s early 1950s which adds far more colours :-)

  • @Skarloey123

High praise coming from the top entry in the contest, I agree with all you say here.

  • Awesome Work, Doc! :D

  • great vid would have been nice to have saved silver fox.......shame

  • A nice bit of work Tom. The tunnel smoke effects were very well done.

  • Wonderful, Tom. Simply Wonderful!

  • That Was Great,Good Job =)

  • Beautiful work Tom, very touching, if only the ones that hadn't been preserved could have still been saved from scrap (no reference to Thomas intended.) somehow. Beautiful layout too, loved the smoke effects.

  • brilliant video loved your smoke effects in the tunnels and sheds
