Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the singlemost fantastic basketball player in NBA history. He was talented like others, but even more so. To all those who must know Kareem was exactly 7 feet, 2 inches.
@dwebb234 yeah dumbass MJ couldn play 20 years cuz he couldn remain fit for 20 years KAREEM was the epitome of Fitness in the NBA and considering he played at the CENTRE position which is one of the most physically demanding positions in the game MJ cant hold a candle to KAREEM in terms of fitness and Longevity !!!
@NingrahamHD yea he is good, there is no doubt about that buuuttt he has the points record because he played 20 fucking years. he is also the leader in most games played, most minutes played, most field goal attempts, im sure if Michael Jordan or any of those other players played 20 years they would have demolished his record of scoring
@dwebb234 that's the goddamn point dumbshit. he CAN play 20 years, and be CONSISTENT for 20 years. you can't even construct an argument for like a paragraph.
i want to say he is the greatest center ever but there had been so many great centers: robinson, chamberlain and shaq. I'll just say he is my favorite center
i am watching these for a report and he is amazing all u guys have a great chance for the nba if you are good but i am a girl and i play basketball and give it all i have i want to be just like him i dont care what you guys say
its sad big guys dont get nearly the credit wing players and point guards do. Magic johnson got a statue of him long ago, kareem hasn't even gotten a statue infront of the lakers arena yet
mylesusa: Jabbar was the one that requested a trade from Milwaukee. They didn't try to ditch him. He faced a lot of discrimination in Milwaukee once he converted to Islam, and there was hardly anywhere there that could meet his "cultural" needs(i.e.: mosques to pray at).
I really hate to bring this up but LeBron will probably be at the top 5 career points scored in the history of the NBA if he continues to average that many points which of course he's very capable of and to continue his stable amount of games played with 75-80 games per season.
When I was a college ball player, and could touch my elbow on the rim, and broke the college record for blocked shots, my 51-year -old dad could do that hook shot over me and beat me one on one, every time.
Just to embarrass me, my dad would also do things like bounce the basketball between my legs and such just to show off. :)
Who's the greatest? Kareem 20 years NBA career 38, 387 Points 6x NBA MVP 6x NBA Champion 2x NBA Finals MVP VS. MJ 14 years NBA career (ONLY) 32,292 points 5x NBA MVP 3x NBA All-Star MVP 6x NBA Finals MVP 6x NBA Champion 10x NBA Scoring Champion 3x NBA Steals Champion 1x NBA Defensive Player of the YEAR!
I got to see Kareem at Camp Henry Bibby and man was he sharp. Still able to dunk at like age 56-57... He's right behind Michael Jordan if you ask me about the GOAT players.
In my opinion, Olajuwon and Kareem are the two best centers of all time. Olajuwon was more talented physically and a better defender overall, but Kareem had that go-to shot, the trusty skyhook. And, Kareem had better longevity over Olajuwon; Kareem was still a very good center into his late 30s.
@mrbigga95 lol ur hella fucking stupid, shaq could barely guard Tim Duncan , Kareem would fuckn destroy shaq, that hook shot was un guardable and shaq was never a leaper...
@LiLSiCk916 I'm not judging who is better, but Shaq was never a leaper? He holds an all time record from predraft measurements for the highest vertical reach at 12'5'' from 1992. That record is unbraken for almost 20 years, no player has ever jumped higher since that date..not even Howard..
Watching Kareem play, or even his highlights, introduces to the viewer the finesse and artistry that is more than mere competition. He brought something to the game that was beyond athletic. It was art.

mikenotnumber1...I think this comment didn't work so I'll repeat it. I like how Jabbar told those Jordan Jockers where to go in that "open letter to Pippen". I didn't see that coming because KAJ has never really been a guy that got into these "who's the best" debates. As if Jordan alone set the standard that players past and present should be viewed against. Jabbars resume takes a backseat to no one.
I was surprised he showed Wilt some love given they were fierce rivals. Good stuff.
@spanem213 centers in the old days were taller than most centers today. they averaged 6'10 barefoot, today's NBA is measured in shoes... Howard is 6'9, there's like 2 or 3 7 foot centers today - in a 30 team league
Yes, you only debate Michael Jordan as being the greatest ever against the likes of Kareem. Both were complete and had no weaknesses for their position. Plus, Kareem is so highly underrated and so under appreciated.
@rawimpact Well, I've started watching Nba in 2000 as I was just 8 years old and I'm not an american so I actually didn't now about Nba before I saw VC in the dunk contest. And also I'm not a Lakers fan so I don't know all the players.
ryanr20091.yeah the problem is it "was" a big mans game. We have Dwight now, and I think the league really tries to shackle his dominance (calling so many bogus fouls on him, and no longer permitting Centers to stay in the lane for 3 seconds, which'll hinder shotblocking). Olajuwon is my favorite Center in NBA history (when I say favorite that doesn't mean I think he's the best Center ever). And it is remarkable to me how Jabbar often held his own or outplayed and sometimes destroyed the Twin Towers in the mid 80s despite being almost 40 years old. That to me the most impressive thing individually I've ever seen in NBA history.
Abdul-Jabbar was well known for his trademark "sky hook", a hook shot in which he bent his entire body (rather than just the arm) like a straw in one fluid motion to raise the ball and then release it at the highest point of his arm's arching motion. Combined with his long arms and great height (7 feet 2 inches), the sky hook was nearly impossible for a defender to block without goal tending Only a few have blocked his legendary skyhook, including basketball greats Wilt Chamberlain
I would have a hard time arguing any player over Kareem. Even when all the statistics are compared, there is still always the beauty of his game that puts him over the others. There's something about the sky hook that makes it the most beautiful shot in the game. The time it takes to sort of wind up and start raising the one leg and arm. Then, the long arc of his long arm, and finally the flick of a gigantic hand just when this gangly body has stretched to it's longest possible height.
@superyou918 Pat Riley, "Why judge anymore? When a man has broken records, won championships, endured tremendous criticism and responsibility, why judge? Let's toast him as the greatest player ever."
just take a look at that, basketball at its finest. no huge muscles, no overrated flashy dunks, simply pure basketball talent. that hook shoot of his is simply perfect, everything about it is perfect. the release, the hand movement, the trajectory of the ball. its a real pity there are no centers like him today.
@djwc6 It sort of reminds me of an IDIOTIC statement that someone made to me a couple of years ago or so. The statement was that "Larry Bird couldn't play in today's NBA." My response was that I actually agreed: Today's NBA wouldn't be enough of a challenge for Larry Bird.
@djwc6 you cant say that .. the game is so much ddifferent .. he has more skill but look at how much stronger and more athletic howard is.. yes theyre better but they wouldn't destroy him

@superyou918 Hard shot, still learning. That and teardrop.

@superyou918 Pat Riley, "Why judge anymore? When a man has broken records, won championships, endured tremendous criticism and responsibility, why judge? Let's toast him as the greatest player ever."

just take a look at that, basketball at its finest. no huge muscles, no overrated flashy dunks, simply pure basketball talent. that hook shoot of his is simply perfect, everything about it is perfect. the release, the hand movement, the trajectory of the ball. its a real pity there are no centers like him today.

i love how the young guys today think howard is the greatest center ever, but guys like kareem and chamberlain would have destroyed him.

@djwc6 He would go home crying and not even show up for the next game. Just a phone call to work "I'm sick."

@djwc6 But Shaq would have throw those two around. Howard isn't even their league
