Ha ha ha suckers the fucking bomer plane is flying over my house all the time, in albreta Anzac! It's basing at Anzac lake! Yahoo! I got to get up close!
these planes were born and bred in the US. if we ever got them back, it'd be a return home. and their REAL home base is Baltimore, WHERE THEY WERE MADE.
I'm just happy Hawaii is being used. It was only a stupid political decision that let them go south, but hey, that's ok. They will always be from my hometown and have their home base here. They are the best!
The DC-10 holds 12,000, the Mars 7200. The difference though is the DC-10 requires landing and fillup on the ground, where as the Martin can fill "on the fly" by going to a nearby lake/reservoir (or ocean) and scooping water.
So if you have a lake nearby, the Mars can dump way way more water thanks to turnaround time in a short period of even if an airport is right beside the fire for the DC-10 (which of course it never is)
i luv this I am from port alberni and live in san jose now i have seen pics of these amazing birds at a few lake over the years . i hope they never retire them they do the greatest job in the world
Just had a tour inside both the Phillippine and Hawaii Mars on Saturday. Absolutely incredible. The pilot said there was a 50/50 chance of going back to California in a week or two.
As a condition of sale from Timberwest to the prospective buyers, it was required that one of the Mars be given to the community of Port Alberni upon retirement to be used as a heritage attraction. Coulson stepped up to the plate with that agreement. "Thank goodness"

Sorry to say but the BC government wouldn't pay to keep them so we now have them in California. Your loss our gain.

@rlwilson1 The planes are owned by a company in British Columbia. They are still in B.C.

Mr. Coulson: Just a quick question. Did you remove or cover the BCFS decal for the United States Forest service decal?
The photos at Lake Shasta California show no BC decal.
