Fish cpr! Haha I did that with a bird one time plus I cut an extension cord and used it to jump start the heart! Shit works though! WARNING do not stick an electrical cord in the water! Hahs

I don't think it was dead to start with. I think it had some sort of stroke which paralyzed it, and it's breathing slowed down allot to look like it was dead.

Its a type of paralysis. Its a brain disorder some fish can get like humans. When it happens to the fish it stops swimming and it is no longer getting oxygen from the water in its gills. When you start pushing him around you are pushing water through his gills causing him to breath again and causing him to come out of the paralysis/seizure type state.
i will try this if i ever have too. on every fish i can get to in time. lol i love my fish i would love to save them if i could. also the explanation is very simple. this guy is jesus.
Something like this happened to 3 of my fish while transporting them to my sister's house, when we introduced them to the tank they seemed fine but then after a while they slowly started having trouble swimming & they sunk to the bottom. I tried very hard to revive them but no such luck ): All that remains in my fish tank now is a catfish & hopefully he lives. Rest in peace Fishies <3

That is why hospitals are equipped with emergency apparatus made specifically to revive the heart. Also why we learn and use Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). My partner is living proof, he flatlined (heart stopped) on the operation table and he is very much alive today.

@Monika19 You dont need to be god to diagnose it. your fish has a problem with its swim bladder. And depending on what caused it, it can go away on its own. your fish is probably constipated that's a common problem if you over feed it and from what little you seem to know about fish you most likely were over feeding it. Oh and the anatomy of a fish is much different than a human so I dont think it is fair to compare a human flat-lining with a fish flat-lining. All I am saying is be open minded.

do u mean like the signs that they are gonna die or what kills them? heaps of things can kill them, e.g. poor water quality, stress,other fish...etc symptoms of unwell fish are just pretty much anything out of the norm...heavy breathing/gulping was something we noticed with this fish...which by the way is still happy and healthy!! :) hope this helped?

Check out Goldfish in Liquid Nitrogen, there is where I believe you'll find your answer.
You can freeze them in readily available ice water and they will come back also.
