The hair, the clothes - this is the look of the eighties. Robert Plant & Jimmy Page are the best. I heard they did not practice so they were probably not in sync at some points when they reunited years later.
jimmy page said when he was coke high he would gyrate his neck. You can see Robert Plant smile/giggle when Page does this in the intro. friends you see, know things
It took two drummers - both Phil Collins and Tony Thompson playing at the same time - to fill Bonham's large shoes.
It's a benefit so they got what was left of the band together for the first time after John died and Phil and Tony helped out on drums during a poorly rehearsed (and played) performance.
In fact, Phil wanted to walk off the stage because as he said later, "They weren't very good. And I was made to feel a little uncomfortable by the dribbling Jimmy Page."
Funny that the band hates their Live Aid performance, cause I remember watching this on MTv (when they played videos) and this was the highlight of the evening. There were other reunions too that kicked ass. But this one was advertised all day.
Time is the issue to make things all better. . . sometimes it just runs out and you have to do with what you have. Fans didnt notice that day. It is only many years later that when people have nothing better to do than analize every single cord, every note sung that anyone hears. Damn, if you were even old enough to be there then you would know that!
Led Zep disowned this performance and refused to let it appear on the Live Aid DVD but donated a fair sum to charity instead.
It's a cr@p performance by Zep standards so at least there's the O2 performance from a few years ago to remember them by if that's the last time they play together. Hopefully it won't be....
"...what is going to become of these relationships once Live Aid passes...", Robert and Jimmy hate Phil...Phil hates Robert and Jimmy...and they all live not so happily ever after...the end lol

I mean I like the and I like the song, but this performance does neither any justice at all. The beginning was pretty poor as the guitar seemed a little out of tune, the middle was practically none existant and the end was a little cut of too.

Zeppelin hated this performance. Their instrauments were out of tune and minimal rehersal time. Plant was unhappy with the performance, saying that "it was like sleeping with your ex-wife but not making love."
I saw Robert on a chat show saying that he was not in best voice...but he did it for the cause. For us old timer Zep fans, it was like Valhalla to see Zep again.
Acrylicdrums - Agreed. Great moment and I was there, only 20 rows back. As a fellow drummer I love Phil Collins. But they rehearsed with Tony Thompson (only 1.5 hours) and I saw no need to have Phil up there too. He often looked like he was taking lead from Tony anyway. Robert was touring solo at the time as was Jimmy (with The Firm), so though they were both still active, it seems their newer styles had them lacking the best Zep efforts. But regardless, musically historical - Valhalla indeed.
@Shadynevermind having your instrument out of tune is a bad thing yes...so why not do something about it....zeppelin were idiots for not rehearsing enough...zeppelin lost musical quality when plant fucked up his voice in the early 70s anyway...almost everything he sang and recorded after that sucked...except alison krauss album...that shit ruled...
As a fan, I was extremely glad to see it happen...but you listen to how hoarse Plant was (and he was right in the middle of a tour, no less), how out of shape Jimmy's playing was, and the lack of cohesiveness of the drummers (both great, just not together on this day) and it's a damn shame that it was captured forever on video.
It's something that would have been a lot better in memory than in repeat viewing.
@Shadynevermind Plant was particularly unhappy with Phil Collin's drumming. He said that he didn't knew the songs. Collins said later that before the show there was a strange, dark atmosphere between the Led Zeppelin members.
I met Robert Plant loads of times @my cousins house in birmingham, they went to school together but i was young and took no notice, they would sit in the lounge and jam with other ppl! but later on i luved their music when they became famous! I just remember they wore sandles and had long hair n beards HaHa ; ))
