  • True.

  • I Love you man respect for you ;) !! good words !

  • P.L.U.R. can never forget the respect

  • Thank you for saying to respect other DJs even if they're not using a set of Pioneer CDJ 2000s or whatever... I certainly can't afford the best hardware... but I'm saving up for the midi controller that does all I need it to do, so I'm happy.

  • Hah he said ''You bougth you music'' LOLOLOL

  • Surely when you're Deejaying, it's about what the people want to hear, not what you like to play. It depends on the type of function you're playing at. It's what you're being paid for! You play music for them on the night and not yourself. Also, as well as mixing beats etc,..a good Deejay will also be good with the chat.

  • @Nunsweepit421 So i take it you havent been involved in the scene very long?

  • @bladecatcherX99 Longer than you might think my friend. Happy New Year.

  • Hello, i would really love to become a dj .. so what starter set would you guys recommend?

  • @DrumGuitarDude im starting out with the hercules mk4 payed $155 for every thing but before i bought it i practiced with free virtual dj software

  • @LdotMerida Dude I just bought an mk4 as well! it's being shipped at the moment. Could you please give me a mini review of it? and one main question, what's the scratching like on the jog wheels?

  • @TheAssaschan well you wont be really scratching the jog wheels are way to small but you can hook a full size table to it. i like it though it was worth the money its easy to use and sound quality is great easy to hook up as well my one problem is mapping the buttons to specific effects, i cant figure it out. YOU WILL NEED TO BUY YOUR OWN A/V CABLES about $5 to hook up to a stereo or speaker monitors so you can preview the next track in you headphones send me a message for more help anytime bro

  • @LdotMerida Hmm alright yeah I thought they looked pretty small. Thanks heaps for taking the time to do that, appreciated buddy :) I subbed.

  • @DrumGuitarDude 2x pioneer cdj-200 and a pioneer djm-400

    just these :)

  • mr ellaskins i really dont no what to say . i have very little knowledge of djing how can i start my carrer with djing

  • This video makes me WANT to DJ.

  • This is the most important lesson one can ever get. Ever.

  • You are completely right ellaskins :)

  • so glad i found you man. what an awesome start!

  • I respect Dj Unkut. Hes kinda a hiphop dj, and im gonna do dubstep and D'n'B.

  • Hey Jonathan Check out my 1st video and let me know what you think cuz ur the person who made me want to start DJing

  • Very very helpful for beginners!

  • This is so awesome, learned so much :)

  • couldnt of said it better much respect!

  • @5drumfan5 DJ Tech i mix reload

  • Respect your fellow DJs.... yeah deadmau5

  • YES, exactly. People are so closed minded about any other types of music besides their own. Love all kinds of music! Best. Advice. Ever

  • should you share my tracks?

  • MY GOD...is DJ TUTOR

  • MY GOD...is DJ TUTOR

  • Very nice. Respect.

  • He looks high as balls

  • @thevade hahahaha

  • @thevade those pupils?

  • I love your vids!

  • so true of couse we / dj's respect other dj's because we as dj's mite have differnt equipment but we / dj's are doing all the same think enjoying and playing music ;)

  • great advice

  • it sounds like he's a little pissed off in this video

  • If there's only one video you should watch from this guy, it's this one!

  • i disagree that you should love ALL music. you can't force yourself to love anything. but i agree that respect does go a long way.

  • That is absolutely bang on mate, good stuff ellaskins!

  • In the end he says "practice"...I mean how the FUCK can we practice If we don't even know how the hell to dj yet?

  • @fredwarrior luckily he made lots of videos about it ;)

  • Hi !

  • That was real talk...A lil respect go a far way.

  • ellaskins so you might get the question alot but im tryin to bulid a libary of music as all electro/house how do i go about buliding it if i dont know very many artists

  • @ignacioarmas i don't know many artists of this same genre.but go on beatport and watch the house and electro house top ten.listen to these songs and what you like, you can download it and with the time you know more and more of these artist ;)

  • @DJPats94 thanks bro

  • there are many pro dj's with laptops so why because they don't look good :S Btw you can start with much cheaper but good quality gear like reloop and behringer stuff :P ( not as good as pioneer but good for budget or starters ) btw nice tuts here :D

  • Werd! best lesson up here

  • I wish the Clubs would respect different DJ styles. I would love to enter a DJ competition, but every one of them says No Laptop DJ's! I can't afford my own Pioneers, but I consider myself to be very talented with Laptop DJ'ing I can create seemless mixes as good as, if not better than on the CDJ's! The only reason they don't want laptop DJ's is coz they don't LOOK as good! It shouldn't matter what the DJ looks like, as long as the music is good quality and people are dancing surely!!

  • All respects to you mahn!!!!!!

  • I'm still a noob at this.. but could you rate or leave a comment on my HAMSIN REMIX... DJ techdeck

  • Wut is the name of those turntables???! Plz help some1 message me pleeeassseee :) :)

  • @DavidekNysa i also wish i could afford about 1000€ for a cdj .. my cdjs together cost about 1000€ .. :D thats pretty cheap compared to that one :D

  • Comment removed

  • @no1DJinsane I'm 16 and I can't afford anything, until I'll get a good job :D Which CDJs do you have? :)

  • @DavidekNysa well i am 17 .. and i do some jobs in my holidays....

i've got 2 reloop rmp-2 b they are pretty cool and have a very good sound quality

  • @no1DJinsane Well, I wish I'll go get some job at the summer this year and make some money for a set :D

  • @DavidekNysa yea.. thats how you schould do it...

  • @DavidekNysa cdj 1000 mk3 from pioneer

  • Thanks man, i like the way you explain things honestly and clearly.

  • Bro youre awesome man ive been really enjoying your tutorials ur an excellent teacher. I was teaching myself how to spin when i was in my teens but now im thinking of starting again. Thanks for taking the time to make these vids!

  • I Agree 100% I work with Laptop and Hardware as an I.T. repair man it's a

No-Brainer (always have a backup). But after doing a Vinyl Only Gig the other week i have nothing but respect for anyone using Vinyl (i love all music thanks to my dear old dad) keep up the good work!!!!

  • And what about my cat? it is allways trying to jump on my table and walk along my mixer... FU!! haha I'm just kidding of course (but it's truth my cat is allways doing this!).

I'm totally agree with you, nice to see you choose to tell that as the first lesson to become a DJ! You make my day a lot happier.

    Cheers!

    XkDJ

    PD:Sorry about my english.

  • @kristobendito Talk to your cat seriously. Explain the deal. He will understand.

  • completely agreed. Respect!

  • paides iprarxei pouthena kati se ellinika?

  • respect bro..

  • Best video by you I've seen so far!

  • i think it's great to enjoy what u play but if the dancefloor doesnt then whose going to give enough of a shit to book you?

just my only statement to go along with this

  • word!

  • mr ellaskins...i'm currently trying to watch all of your videos...but what i wanted to say is that you're a great teacher,a great man and you sure help alot of dudes like me or like whoever watches you.

i'm trying to answer all of my questions myself by lookin at your vids, hopefully i`ll manage to do that.thanks

  • @hger123

Well said my friend... Well said...

  • good lesson...btw wats on ur nose?

  • i love what you said .i am just starting to dj but the fellows make fun because i dont mix with vinel records i use cd turn tabels.

  • @oscaraquino315020 I just barely started, and one of the first things I've noticed is how many DJs are currently using CDJ's (CD turntables, I'm sure you're figured that out by now) There's nothing wrong with that. Digital media is much more easy to manipulate and often easier to get a hold of. Both CDJ and Vinyl, as far as I've been able to tell, have their advantage. If you can only afford one, or what have you, fuck'em. That shouldn't stop anyone from playing. Keep goin' bud.

  • Best advice around j

  • Big Words !

  • Awesome!

  • Not just advice for djs, but people in general! Well done for starting to spread the word!!

  • yeah!!!

  • nice its true.....

  • great words!

  • you rock dude ^^

  • your wicked dude. ive watched all ur vids. i wanna make tracks on me own, in the sense of making original noise! any one can help on this? im into electro, djs like sebastiAn, Mr Oizo, Toxic Avenger etc etc... should i buy synthersizers, ableton, keys? how does one make sounds on their own? :D

  • FL Studio!

its a digital audio workstation, and i gotta say I think its the best out there.

I started on it and it helped me improve VERY quickly, I have had it for about 4 months, maybe a little bit less, but its definatly the best.

gotta love it, and good luck man :D

  • hope that helps ya demelumeestermad!

  • thanx alot man!! yea that helps heaps, god i forgot i even made that comment, its like 2 months old!! haha. finally got a reply, narly!!! well i found ableton but yea im gonna look in to FL coz i was readin about how Deadmau5 uses it. Spose i could jus run live and FL rite? either way, thanx again :!!!!

  • Respect!!!

  • Ive spend some time observing peoples comments on FAKE DJ'S and all that non sence hehehe, a DJ to me, is someone who can transision traxx in a way that makes people enjoy, that continously makes the song suitable for dancing, the art of changing the traxx to a unique way, that will WOW the crowed, it doesnt matter what GEAR OR METHOD he uses, it matters if he can make a COMPLETE CROWd enjoy his transitioning from song to song, if you could do that, that is what a DJ (DISC JOCKEY) mean.

  • Agree :)

  • ellaskins is a legend! should be alot more people like him on this planet.

  • yea, you're right :D

  • @jaimiecurrie so tru

  • Absolutely shocking abuse of the apostrophe...

    You'r

    WTF???

  • i dont think you should respect music per se , i think you should respect the way he uses the music , the way he mixes , the way he edits that kind of stuff , if you hate for example hiphop and love house you should force yourself to listen to hiphop , but it wouldnt hurt to listen to the way he mixed it

  • u muslim?

  • yeah man. peace.

  • haha, too true! music is music, respect all

  • true dat

  • Great Ella!

  • watched this vid again^^....it's so much respect and honor in this vid.i hope a lot a people gets what he's trying to say.

i wish i atleast had some cd decks or can offerd some :(

only thing i've been using is my gaming rig, virtual dj and fl studio :D

just started producing my own tracks awhile ago^^

i say i'm not doing so bad with 3 1/2 months experience producing and about 4 1/2-5 months dj'ing^^

    well remember:PRACTICE AN ENJOY!

  • word, much respect where it's due. props for the gaming rig vdj+fl setup. i had a similar setup when i first srarted and now i got 6 computers each with their own purpose. anyhow, props again to johnthan.

  • I'm woking on those too . You should listen to my compositions

  • someone please send this video to djforums..com so they can get a clue!!

  • Well said!

  • very inspiring.

I want those cdjs though haha

  • i want those cdj's!!!!!!

  • we can say that ! but the word you say is not the word they say! we sing about we joke about that word is something we say

  • You Say Dj's School -> I say ellaskins

  • i love music, but this is my house

  • So true about respect!

As commented before here, "no matter kind of music, and no matter the equipment!"

If you watch a DJ throw a trick, that _you_ think was cool, no matter the style of music: - then try to find out how it was done, and develop yourself even further as a DJ. This might even open up your mind to come up with something that no-one has ever heard before, and then someone else is gasping after the trick _you_ developed!

    Think about that ;-)

    Cheers!

  • AMEN, this is was gold no matter what.

  • reality is alot of us dj's whether we like or dont like music at some point end up playing it.... plain truth. what matters is making the crowd enjoy and filling the floor! cheers

  • Great point.

  • true....

  • I swear I thought you were going to say "stick it up your ass" =)

  • respect man.. i envy the DJ tutor so much for having all that kit! I only wish i could afford a pair of CDJs.. one day! I'll happily stick to Traktor at the mo though! Respect!

  • You are totally right!!

No matter the kind of music and no matter the equipment!

What a dj has is his skills!! ;)

  • Awesome!!! Respect is everything!

  • Good advice.

And nice CDJ1000's... looks brand spanking new.

  • One question, can't you use music from your computer to go with decks? i.e, connecting your computer to your decks.

  • yes u can, traktor provide hardware and software for such an application. there are other makes that do so too, gemini offer such capability too as far as i know.

  • id recomend starting out with torq and maybe the torq xponent, sweet midi control over your computer turntables... in the words of our savior "Practice and Enjoy" amen

  • Thank you. I'm gonna try that one. Thanks for the help.

  • That's what being a dj is all about!! You can learn a lot from other dj's who play other genres and have other equipment...

  • love and respect.

  • Amen !!! A.men.........................

  • So true. Respect can go a long way.

  • new camera great

  • I love those starter movies PArt 2 Plox !

  • Keep these kind of lessons coming

  • i was like that before, i hated some genres of music, but when i started to dj myself, i found out that all music is great, there is lots of effort puted behind every track i play so i started to respect every aspect of any type of music....great vid ! 10/5

  • Nice piece of advice there.

  • Great vid Jon!

hey guys im selling my djing equipment only for the US check out the link

    watch?v=HlyMGIU6kkM&feature=channel_page

  • nice can you make more vids about learning how to be a dj please

  • GREAT MESSAGE! Exact message I tell my youth DJs. Even using the same equipment a couple started talking about being better than the others. I put that to bed saying the best respect and learn from each other - helping not harming. More people like what you do when you let them in, not shut them out. It's all about character.

  • very good man !!!

  • Good video. This is very important, and so very true.

I've been in this game a few years, and it is sad to see all the "wannabe-wold-class-idiots", who put themself as #1 and everybody else as #last-and-stupid-who-can't-mix.

By respecting other dj's, you might even get a few good creative tips&tricks you can incorporate in your own dj-sets.

Just my 2 cents of wisdom :)

  • just staring like into a tunnel with only ur music style its wrong anyway i think ^^

    respect all djs ;)

  • Nice vid, i'm looking forward to hear more of these tutorials soon, cause i started djing only 1 month ago... yeah, call me a noob... xD

  • @KillingDuke

    .... noob :)

    @J

Good to see you are getting back to making tutorial videos. Makes me happy. I remember watching your stuff when I just started, seems so long ago. However, I can always get better.

  • too true, there are soo many narrow minded idiots in this game! Love the music, learn the art,

What you spin and what you spin it on is not inportant, the sound you produce is and thats the bottom line

  • Some real talk, love it. Endless respect for ya, keep it up.

  • hey all,

he is absolutely correct, when i started djing i found ellaskns..thats how i become a dj now,he is more than a dj to me.he is like my guru..i follow his words.....respect all ,Respect every kind...especially your fellow dj...thanks all

  • haha get a rooooom!

  • After I started getting into djing my music preferences broadened. So if this is just a phase and I don't want to do it anymore after a certain period of time I have that at least to take with me.

  • LESSON 1:

    respect all fellow DJ.

we all should follow this advise.

it is true that to respect all kind of music!!all kind of DJ!!

    =D

  • some one had to say it theres alot of assholes out there hatin

  • YOu are a real teacher J.

Personally, everything i know bout DJing is because of you, and let me tell you, every time I watch your vids I find real advise.

I think what you do, teaching all of us... is just the best a Dj could ever find on the internet.

it feels so good to be your pupil..

    Thank you Dj Tutor!!!

  • Thank you! Finally! Someone who gets it!! Keep it up my friend!

  • i like this video.very good advice not only for beginners but all other people in general.

music is music no matter of what genre, how expensive your hardware is/was,how many clubs you been in/done,how many tracks you produced ,ect.

music is music no matter what people try to argue.

everyone should just enjoy what they are and what they do cause that's only the real way anyone can succed.

have to be true to yourslef like dj tutor says

  • i've learnd so much from you'r videos

    keep uploading :)

  • nerd!!!!!!!

  • He must get a lot of hate mail? :-/

You're an amazing D.J and am learning a TON of information from you! Keep it up! Props.

  • No one could said it better. respect not only other djs but everyone around you.

  • Nice, you are right! :)

  • a good inspirational message there Jon!!!

i'll surely will keep that in mind!!

i just only wish the other DJs here in this city could hear this, that way they wouldn't dawg me out every time for what I use. :(

(the Numark Total Control w/ Virtual DJ)

  • YUP!!!

    I love this guy!!

  • ella is the man

  • Priceless Advise!

  • Nice vid, really hit it home there....and just turn the camera away at the end again lol!

  • best video so far....

  • AGREED!! You dont wanna end up like Deadmau5 and Schossow lol

  • why whats wrong with them
