@J1llEliza same here, I just learned about this song from that movie. I am of Acadian descent, one of the wandering canadians banished to Louisiana. Very good song. I am also a motorcyclist and this movie definitely made me want to go north and see the Acadian history and land of Canada on two wheels.
@lutenihon It's actually totaly «Québécois». Canadian was a term that refered only to the french speaking community before being transpose to all the country. Now it's the french canadian, but this song was made with the spirit of nostalgy of the lost country of Nouvelle-France.

I grew up in Ontario, but my French isn't too bad. My friend's mum sings this all the time, it's one of my favourites. I must say I liked your version the best out of the other ones on youtube :D

but I'm sure you can agree that many are anti english, if not most.
And I'm not convinced that english would be safe after independance, dont forget the P.Q. tried to ban english in quebec and the supreme court would not let them.

Par exemple, lors de la manifestation contre la visite du prince Charles, on a transformé un évènement contre la monarchie en un évènement antianglophones, et ce, lorsque j'ai pourtant eu la chance de discuter avec un petit groupe d'anglophones fort sympathiques également venu manifester à nos côtés!
Finalement, tout francophone, qui connaît bien son histoire, devrait savoir que des anglophones se sont battus à nos côtés lors de la rébellion de 1837-38. Quebec is also a only province fully capable of working, yet still unable to do anything but ask for handouts from the Federal government every fucking year. I know plenty of bad things about Quebec, Canada's most corrupt province as Macleans properly put it.

I must agree with you amonster. I am from Ontario myself yet am still able to appreciate the history behind the song as well as its beauty, I am trying to become fluent in French and am only in the beginning stages. Je vais apprendre le français!

S'il vous plait, dites moi que c'est une blague. Où est l'air original? Et je trouve très mal approprié, sans préjugés aucuns, que cette chanson soit chantée par un anglophone. C'est une chanson inspirée de la révolution 1837-38. C'est une chanson partiotique québécoise, pas une balade sans importance.
Je ne dis pas ça pour écoeuer, mais les patriotes étaient présents aussi au Haut-Canada et étaient très alliés avec Papineau etc. (voir Robert Baldwin) et certains parlaient même bien français. Les patriotes voulaient obtenir le gouvernement responsable, possibilité de commerce avec d'autres colonies + usa... entre autre.

If you have nothing against anglos, why would you support a movement that is at it's very core, anti-anglophone.
I believe we should be united despite our differences, not separated because of them.
would you not agree that my opinion is a more a tolerant, modern and democratic way of thinking?
Separating people based on race, ethnicity religion or language is so 1933 Germany, know what I mean?
By the way, I believe french to be an important part of Canada and it must be protected.

I've been hearing this song in my head for a while, and when I finally went to listen to it on youtube, I found I liked yours best.
