Most importantly fisheries need to be managed based on sound scientific information and they need to be ENFORCED. Ownership is absolutely key but of course most of the ocean isn't owned by anyone hence the tragedy of the commons - it just becomes a race to catch as many as possible

The main problem seems to be coming from these big fishing fleets that are catching practically anyhing that moves. So why the goverment is giving licience to more vehicles which are used for such purposes. And in my opinion there should be a closed season were there should be no fishing at all costs so that at least the fish can repopulate. These areas then should be guarded 24hrs dly so that one can have a better picture of wht is going on. This will restrict the search for illegal fishing!

Marine sanctuaries do work, so long as they can be enforced and the local communities come around the the idea. However, people do need to eat, and so do other marine and coastal animals - the easiest way to regulate this is to regulate the human impact.

The main problem with that is how exactly we can enforce each other. There isn't an international body that can do so, and the oceans are huge, as the vid and description all point out. Automaton-led enforcement isn't feasible, either...

World fish stocks for one month a year. Individuals get sponsored not to fish & pollute our waterways.

In the philippines there government establish a lot of fish sanctuary on every region, in order to maintain the balance of fish to be catch and the fish to be hatch in every region.. and i think it work... the government also gain success on its marine aqua culture,,, fish farming in the philippines sustain its High demand of fish on its huge population... I hope this pacific nations do as what Philippines did to there waters..
