I think the reason some guys dont want to play with girls sometimes (and I apologize for this, but it's mostly the truth) is because they dont want to spend time with someone who they assume to be bad or sometimes clueless of the game. now I know this isnt true for you two, knowing you play world of warcraft shows that you really commit to a game, getting to know its tricks and all, but most guys think "man I dont wanna let her play halo with me, she's gonna bring my KD down"if that makes sense.
It's a shame that western gaming culture still view female players as an oddity. I often play with Japanese online servers and it is odd that there are more common there. I think the major factor in the delimma of western female gamers is that they have to cope with agressive gaming behaviors which is encouraged by the masses. In JP server, we have a strict gaming culture. Communicating in JPMMO is very much handled like a business meeting and all players suppress their true personality.
Let me start by saying kudos to "coming out of the closet" and make a video response, but I'll be honest. Your video was a bit slow to get into and felt a little all over the place in terms of delivery. I also wasn't too keen on how you opened the video, "Hi I'm -insert name here-, I'm a girl gamer." I felt you should have opened with "Hi I'm Samantha (my name), and I'm a gamer." Why do we need to clarify ourselves as girl or female gamers? How can we ever expect to be treated equal as gamers w
Been a gamer since 1984, long time to be gaming. And I have noticed a lot of disrespect there is towards female gamers, the disrespect is pretty much a prime example of the lack of maturity with many male gamers and the gaming industry.
The video game industry as a whole needs to grow up and move beyond the 'be a man!" Males only!' mindset that makes it hard for gaming to be taken seriously.
Gaming is vastly more enjoyable than any of the junk on TV, that's for sure.
this has very little to do with what your talking about (and by the way as a male gamer i found your video very informative and interesting), but do you girls prefer ps3 or xbox360
i've only recently (few years ago) found out of the "video games were only meant for boys" philosophy. what makes games masculine? i've been playing games since i was 3 lol (those very old pc games) and i can't come to terms why games "are supposed to be for boys only"
This was an interesting video, and it is a great insight into how females perceive the gender imbalance. I'm glad you two are not "fragile" towards this topic, in fact you seem to be really comfortable with gaming, which I can only say is a great thing.
It's a shame that this imbalance is in gaming, but I believe it can and it will be ironed out in the long run. It's also depressing reading half of the messages here as a male gamer. I can only apologise on behalf of male gamers everywhere. :(
There are many professions dominated by females (Teacher 80%, nurse 90%, secretary, childminder, social worker, cleaner, shop assistant (sales Clerk), librarian, hairdresser, and of course the clothing industry) , I never hear a discussion about how we can get more male pole dancers! and more women spending money in these establishments! pole dancers make thousands a night and are happy to exploite themselves and exploit the gullible men.
@ppdrum I have been to a male strip club. I get it. I understand how objectification can make good money. I provided some of that money in the form of single dollar bills.
@SnoweyMan111 : If you're a straight male or a lesbian woman and have no imagination I can see that it would elude you, yes. Sexiness is in the eye of the beholder, and in the eyes of people who are attracted to men (such as straight women or gay men) lots of things about males will be sexy. If you want specifics why don't you go read some m/m slashfic or something.
@arkalen29 Good idea. And I understand how it's in the eye of the beholder and all that, but it's hard to fathom. It's like a new color I guess. Impossible to imagen.
But I'l look at some slashfic's, will be very awkward but I guess it would teach me something.
@ppdrum Yeah, well these kinds of clubs are clearly aimed towards men whereas gaming as a medium doesn't have to be. Also there aren't people crying out for more male poledancers 'cause yeah, men are different, we're just more like dirty minded or something. :( I mean there will be ladies nights type places they're just not as common. And if pole dancers make lots by exploiting gullible men, power to them! Nothing wrong with enjoying our sexuality :)
Oh man, this reminded me of the days of counterstrike, girls that played that game got so much flack and pestering from virtually everyone. I personally don't care if a girl plays games or not. I think gamers have the misconception that a girl game would be the perfect girl friend. To me, being a gamer, whether my girlfriend is a gamer is kind of a mute point. It would be cool if she was, but everything else is more important.
i Love girl Gamers the more there is the more Gamers there are in the world the only time then i have seen that looks bad for girl games is that some that have been put down turn around when they win and put down the people the beat when i say some that is a very small and few people
@xMissInfidelx You're probably right and it seems FPS are a little more forgiving than say a game like Socom where it's round based and if you die you have to wait til the next round to play again(unless you actually join a re-spawn room). By the way are you the one on the left or the right in the video?
@Thrashfan21 I don't think it has anything to do with how "forgiving" a game is. There are plenty of unforgiving FPS. There are just plenty of FPS, period. There are not as many TPS, however. Thats why less women (and less people overall) play them.
@xMissInfidelx and, why is it that some girls signify their existence with the color of their hair and not the position in which they were standing? :O come onnn, creating equality is going to be tougher this way =_=
oh look more women that think their enlightened to be one of the boys because we said some mean comments. guess what ladies we trash talk each other all the time. thats what men do when they compete and that bs about needing to try hard because your a woman in wow. yeah right. any of those desperate nerds would give you all their gold at a moments notice if it meant any of your attention. then you insult men with the basement dweller line.some morals.
The best WoW guild leader I ever had was a 52 year old woman.
Half the guild (guy and gal) called her 'Mom'. She was a mother IRL(her son also played), and she was such a wonderful, motherly woman.
Those were good days. The problem I see in your video, ladies, is that while you complain about men generalizing women, in the over-arching fight to get women into gaming, you and others are over-generalizing gamer men.
Go easy on that if you want the bad perceptions of female gamers to change.
Decent response a bit fuzzy but that is an equipment fault. Personally as a WoW player I ignore gender because I really have no idea who I am talking to. As long as you can play the game I couldn't care less what your gender, race, religion, creed, sexual preference, etc, etc. is but the minute you pull half a dungeon instance please be prepared for my rogue to vanish and run for the exit.
ok here to say not all dude gamers are douchebags and most of the women ive played videogames with are pretty good(one in wow even helped me through a few dungons and she was older then yall(she said she had 3 kids)) heck i wouldnt mind having some more women in my guild in wow i dont play alot of fps games but i have played a few online matches with women but honestly couldnt tell ya their skill it can get pretty hecktick I also like playing strong female characters too like jade in bg&e
Course you can play video games, but only when you aren't making the men sandwiches. And when you aren't making the men sandwiches you should be playing cooking mama to practice for when you make sandwiches again.
Well... I SAY dat everyone should be equal..-.- like cmon the only difference is dat girls have an In-y n boys have an Out-y ....thats it :p besides iv gotten my buut whooped by a girl gamer >.< and im not afraid to admit it o.o
I argue with my BF over WoW alot because he doesn't like Rappelz, and a common topic is that WoW isnt judgmental. He claims that WoW players are never prejudice. I can say in my years playing Rappelz, I was never mistreated, and never had to work extra hard to earn my keep in a guild or party....So for the people that like to argue with me about WoW, I'm going to have to tell them to look at it from a female's perspective first. :) Since you are female and have experience in this. Also...
I've always gotten much more prejudice on shooters than on MMOs. One example, I'd been at the top of a Gears 2 ranked match recently and was praised, but once I spoke on the microphone and they found out that I was a girl, it was suddenly "Oh stupid slut, why are you on a man's game. Go play Barbie." from the entire enemy team. :\ I have never had a good online experience with CoD, Halo, Gears, Counter Strike or Unreal. And I think that is what discourages most women to play games.
@QuietCannon An online game is only as good as its community, an indisputable fact of social interaction. Many men online dont know how to handle a woman speaking at them, sexisim is as ingrained as racisim. When confronted with something that confuses them these Boys go into 'Tard rage'. When a human cant fathom something they get angry at it. Sad facts. =(
Though on a personal note, play BC2 instead. Its comunity is better because its marketed towards better people then Modern War 2.
@QuietCannon it makes me feel ashamed and disscusted that SOME men actualy say that because alot of girls are actualy better than they are but men are really compeditive and some men dont like it when girls are better then them at some stuff.
@QuietCannon As a male I am usually irked by what some of my gender is doing, this is one of them. For me I usually dont have much of a character difference online versus offline(IRL,in real life). I also am mainly a pc gamer(i dont own a console, sorry to disappoint) and since I dont get too good of a internet I usually dont buy alot of multiplayer games(though I do have tf2, L4d2 and have played wow). But I have played enough hours(i think I got atlest 50-75 on tf2 alone) contd...
@TcpfMs that I get the fair idea of how disheartening it is when you(or me) is trying to enjoy fighting off zombies in L4D2 and then one guy is harrassing one of the other players resulting in both of them dieing and the male complaining off. All in all im hoping my logic lens of acting as I do in real life on the internet isnt true for all people, that would be scary somewhat.
@TcpfMs A lot of gamers IRL barely have the guts to even talk to a girl gamer IRL, let alone in such a disrespectful tongue like the guys on XBL do.
However, it's been a year since my comment, and I just rewatched the video. I have since given WoW a try, and play it daily, so I've now had more of a social experience in both gaming fields.
I can say - Shooters have made me throw out my headset. Never a nice experience. On WoW, I've gotten ONE sexist jerk attack me. One. (Continued)
@QuietCannon I've been treated like an adult on WoW. On FPS, I'm never even treated like a human being. I don't think I've ever had a polite thing said to me on a PC or Xbox game. Either it's nasty and degrading, or nothing is said at all. I have to say at least in my experience, it's the polar opposite of what these girls stated.
Who knows, maybe it's a server thing as far as WoW goes, and my bad luck as far as shooters go. I'll never know though, like I said, shooters have made me silent. :)
@QuietCannon well people do tend to get competitive when it comes to the twitchy reflex(and internet lag) of fps. wow on the other hand not so much pvp is there but it isnt predominant. For shooters I dont bother talking since thats another part of my focus that I could instead focus on the game. btw do you play more on computer or console? just curious. I think if I remember correctly wow does have private servers that guilds hostt but i dont remember.
@TcpfMs I would say CPU. I have lots of multiplayer games for Xbox and Wii, but the experience on MMOs makes me much happier so I spend more time on the computer, since as I said before, I'm not really treated any worse, or better than a male player on WoW, only equal. :)
@QuietCannon Whether you have a vagina or not, you won't find any sense of community in any online fps nowadays. They aren't treating you like that for your gender, they treat everyone like shit.
@QuietCannon well i guess part of that could be prior experience(i got into gaming with a gameboy color at age 11)(but not to any major platform(computer(for me) though i used to play on the N64) till about 8 yrs ago) so social not-inept. also since the internet is usually not that great I usually refrain from talking much or mute people to gain some frame rates. For me ive never found wow compelling(sure I played it for 2 months but beyond that I didnt feel too much for it)
@QuietCannon lol if someone would have told me to go play "barbie" i would say "how old do you think i am? FIVE??" i dont care what anyone says i love first person shooter games.
@QuietCannon My condolences about your boyfriend. He must be touched.
As a group leader of BG's Ive had to lead the Worst of WoW with attractive girls who I game with on WoW. I practically have to shield them from the drooling lechers that are the boys and just neglected socially inept men that would join. All in All, online gaming problems can only be solved by a bit of work to carve out a part of the community you like and can play with, to avoid the downy masses.
which brings me to my next point, i never understood these guys trying to spit out as many compliments as possible when it's almost sure that they will NEVER meet these women in real life, i guess they think they'll get laid by doing this, but just drowning a girl in compliments wouldnt work in real life either so idk haha.
anyways thats a small view of my side of this argument.
@xMissInfidelx lol well ridicule makes it sound mean. like i said for the most part it's not malicious. c'mon though girls arn't immune to fucking with, i'll admit i might do it a little more to girls then i would to the average guy, but i'm sure you get more of both sides with guys all over you as well.
isn't it annoying/boring to just get guys drooling over you? maybe i'm wrong idk..
all i'm saying is you get plenty of compliments "sheerly for being a woman" so why not get teased as well?
@GFvillain I don't mind due criticism. If I'm doing something wrong in the game, correct me. I don't mind due compliments either. If I did something commendable, tell me. GF, it sounds like you're just being obnoxious to women in games, perhaps in some reverse-psychological flirting.
@xMissInfidelx lol well criticism and teasing are 2 different things imo. teasing can be used as a tool of affection even i think. so maybe you're right teasing is a form of flirting, but i wouldn't say it's obnoxious, why is it obnoxious to say i mess with girls, but guys fuck with each other all day on these games, in good fun.
you said you don't mind being criticized for playing badly, but you're thinking of it on way more of a technical or business level, i'm just talking socially. in vent or guild chat when everyones chatting. i mean the gameplay is used in the chatting obviously, but i'm not saying i trash women for not having the highest dps or not being the best pvper, i mean i might tease em about it here and there, but i'm saying thats not what my main point is about in general.
@xMissInfidelx and guys trash eachother in game all the time, i just like to do it to girls as well, instead of drowning em in compliments like alot of guys do.
...and would you like us to talk to you like most of us talk to other players?Have you ever listened to a dialog between two male team mates that failed on something? It is one of the most disgusting things in life!
@xMissInfidelx No I think what he was talking about is the guys who fall all over themselves at learning there is a girl in the same game with them and how these guys will ask the stupidest things after just meeting a girl online. The opposite of that is the douchebags who are rude and tell women to "get in the kitchen" or tell them to perform a sexual favor. There's a happy medium where a guy can make friends with girls he might game with but isn't trying to date them or be an ass to them.
Well,I'm not someone who drowns girls in compliments but only says a couple things nice. This medium is not in the mainstream, yet! I'm always careful when talking when playing with women online(offline too).It is called respect.I mean,I can always tell a guy "I'm gonna fuck your bloody ass till you die" and still be ok with him. This is not possible when talking to women.I don't talk like that even with male players, not even my friends. It was an example.
plus it's more fun for both parties i think, i mean guys knock eachother all day, i'm sure it gets old having guys who you'll never meet swoon over you constantly, a little back and forth(playfully of course) never hurt anyone.
i never do it maliciously or go that far with it, but i kind of tease, pick on, or whatever you want to call it, to girls because i figure first of all you're probably getting pumped up most of the day with guys drooling over a girl gamer that its needed to knock you down a peg or 2 , to balance it out a little if you will.
well to give you a perspective of a guy who kind of picks on girls in online games, first of all i'd like to clarify i know the boundaries between doing it playfully or in fun and just being disrespectful like you said saying cunt and bitch
No nasty talk in FPS games? Are you kidding? Every day on Xbox Live playing Left 4 Dead 2, I deal with complete male morons who are pissed I play better than they do (those lovely end chapter kill charts- I top them all)
Gears of War players are much better but can get just as nasty too. Too much hostility online keeps me playing by myself on my own console because a) I don't want 'Sexbox Live' chat and b) I don't need to be called any names but my own.
You should try modern warfare 2. Either I get disgusting messages, or degrading ones. Telling me I hack, or that I'm fat. Either way I just ignore it. :)
ive played ff11 for 3 years as a mithra and was never called names because I was a woman. Actually people thought it was cool to see both men and women playing. I mainly play rpgs, i dont play fps except for the time I played Biohazard 5 and Borderlands, which was an fps rpg
@Chykara I'm not sure how unusual it is for women to play RPGs, especially Final Fantasy. It is a game clearly geared towards both sexes, with 8 and 10 maybe even being marketed more towards women. I think its far more novel when women play FPSs. Regardless, RPGs are fantastic and I have enjoyed a few.
true. its novel b/c it is popular in the game industry now, but as we all know, it will change as it has done in the past. females i know dont play games. i develop games myself so i appreciate the older games (nes, snes genesis etc.), which is why rpgs have held my interest. not too many women have even played chrono trigger or hell ff1 but rather see what the bf is playing and try to be good in the hottest thing. that is the separation that guys get mad about when it comes to girl gamers.
I think a lot of it has to do with adrenaline. I think there may be more guys playing FPS's because the game is a more adrenaline-based experience. I think violence and taste also play a part, also RPG's are great for both sexes I think. It's more story based than mindless shooters. Kill this guy, watch for cover. Go get the health pack. You know what I mean? Everybody enjoys a good story. Final Fantasy is great for that isn't it, especially 8 since it was primarily a love story.
I've also found it more rare for women to play FPSs not only because of the actual game play but perhaps also because of the story / characters. Companies like Bioware (which are pretty much RPGs) really pay attention to girl gamers--most recent example being the greatness that is the shooter-RPG Mass Effect 2 where the protagonist (upon selecting female) is neither sexualized nor different than her male counterpart. She's great not because she's female but because she's a great Commander.
Too many guys arguing over something doesn't always end up well, and some times hearing a softer, calmer voice drop in can ease the tension and bring some sense to people. When I had issues in the guild, I almost always went to the female co-Guild Leader, and never her husband, the other Guild Leader. FPS I can speak little about, but can say I was royally ownd by a female gamer the other day in Modern Warfare 2, along with everyone else, when she nuked us all. I myself am actually in college to
I like your response video. Just earlier today, actually, my older brother said to me, "Female gamers don't even exist." I myself played a good 3 years of WoW, raiding hardcore for about a year and half of it. I understand your thoughts on MMOs and girls, and have witnessed that sort of harassment before, but more-so they seem to be lusted over, especially the ones who raided or did hardcore PvP. I personally liked having girls around in raids for their difference in opinion and point of view.
after my sister started playing online in noticed that the friends that i had previously made would hear her voice and instantly gravitate towards her and almost forget who i was. she always got the medick on TF2 and was always revived before me on L4D people would apologize to her after shooting at her, even if they were on the opposite team ah her.
Yes, ladies....fear not the bigheadiness of male gamers!!! By all means make yourself seen in the gaming scene! Cause if there's anything this gaming community needs, it's the presence of females kicking digital ass along with us guys. Oh yeah, like that Daria shirt you rockin'! :)
I think its cool you girls and many others are playing games but try to understand alot of guys don't want to let their guard down with someone they think is a guy. Example, In PSN Home you see female avatars all the time and as a guy your thinking this is a trap. I've seen guys crowd around one female avatar(hitting on her) only to have that person switch avatars and turn into a man.
First person shooter and WOW? I'm honestly speechless. Two of the most boring genres of all time. I have seen female gamers since the NES era and they never talked about first person shooters in my school like Duke Nukem, Doom and Quake on PC in the mid of 90's. It was all about platformers and such. Nintendo or PlayStation did they went with after the 8-bit/16-bit era. But most female gamers had a N64 but it wasn't rare if a girl had a PlayStation, instead. They paid attention to Crash Bandicoo
I get pwned by girls everyday at Halo, my friends laugh at me but they're stupid in that sense I guess some guys can't escape that "gender-role" mentality it's just drilled into them and they sometimes get it mixed up with interests. So yeah but let it be known I will not give up my cyber titties! lol
people that play video games are proven to be less successful at life than none gamers...
so don't worry, both genders are equally shit.

Here's a question for ya!
Why is it, you can put a male character in nothing but a loin-cloth and some furry boots and NOBODY says a word.
BUT
If you put a FEMALE character in leather studded jumpsuit, people won't stop SCREAMING at you?
Somebody REALLY needs to buy a calender and find out what century they live in.

@de132 I disagree.
Have you seen the type of male characters used in games?
They're either ultra-roided uber-jock douche bags or shaved/waxed underwear/pornstar wannabes; all of whom try their hardest not to look GAY... Most times failing.
I'm talking ta you DMC's Dante!
misterprickly 1 month ago
@misterprickly You aren't really disagreeing with me.
I said, the typical video game shirtless male convey strength and masculinity. That is the same as a "ultra-roided uber-jock" person.
de132 1 month ago
@de132 You obviously have a much different opinion as to what is "masculine".
Mario is a prime example of strength & masculinity whereas the Gears of War guys are the exact opposite.
Take away their guns n armor and their just a bunch of TALK.
However... Mario goes through hell to save the woman he loves.
Big difference.

don't take it personally. They are just satisfing rules 29, 30 and 31 of the internet.
28. Always question someones gender - in case it's really a man
29. On the internet all girls are men and all children are undercover FBI agents.
30. There are no girls on the internet
31. Tits or GTFO
28-30 clearly state that that there are no girls on the internet. 31 states that if there are girls on the internet the burdon of proof is on them.

@xMissInfidelx On that topic. What the hell is sexy about males? This has always eluded me.
SnoweyMan111 5 months ago
@SnoweyMan111 : If you're a straight male or a lesbian woman and have no imagination I can see that it would elude you, yes. Sexiness is in the eye of the beholder, and in the eyes of people who are attracted to men (such as straight women or gay men) lots of things about males will be sexy. If you want specifics why don't you go read some m/m slashfic or something.
arkalen29 5 months ago
@arkalen29 Good idea. And I understand how it's in the eye of the beholder and all that, but it's hard to fathom. It's like a new color I guess. Impossible to imagen.
But I'l look at some slashfic's, will be very awkward but I guess it would teach me something.
SnoweyMan111 5 months ago
@ppdrum Yeah, well these kinds of clubs are clearly aimed towards men whereas gaming as a medium doesn't have to be. Also there aren't people crying out for more male poledancers 'cause yeah, men are different, we're just more like dirty minded or something. :( I mean there will be ladies nights type places they're just not as common. And if pole dancers make lots by exploiting gullible men, power to them! Nothing wrong with enjoying our sexuality :)

Why play video games when you can go shopping and stuff? Gaming isn't attractive anyway and almost all girl gamers lack and sense of hygiene
shadowthehedgehog181 11 months ago
Oh man, this reminded me of the days of counterstrike, girls that played that game got so much flack and pestering from virtually everyone. I personally don't care if a girl plays games or not. I think gamers have the misconception that a girl game would be the perfect girl friend. To me, being a gamer, whether my girlfriend is a gamer is kind of a mute point. It would be cool if she was, but everything else is more important.

It seems women tend to play more FPS than they do Third person shooters but I could be wrong.
Thrashfan21 1 year ago
@Thrashfan21 In my opinion, I think that's probably because there are a lot more FPS than TPS out there.
xMissInfidelx 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx You're probably right and it seems FPS are a little more forgiving than say a game like Socom where it's round based and if you die you have to wait til the next round to play again(unless you actually join a re-spawn room). By the way are you the one on the left or the right in the video?
Thrashfan21 1 year ago
@Thrashfan21 I don't think it has anything to do with how "forgiving" a game is. There are plenty of unforgiving FPS. There are just plenty of FPS, period. There are not as many TPS, however. Thats why less women (and less people overall) play them.
I'm the brunette in the video.

Personally as a WoW player I ignore gender because I really have no idea who I am talking to. melculrapid 1 year ago
Also...
QuietCannon 1 year ago
I've always gotten much more prejudice on shooters than on MMOs. One example, I'd been at the top of a Gears 2 ranked match recently and was praised, but once I spoke on the microphone and they found out that I was a girl, it was suddenly "Oh stupid slut, why are you on a man's game. Go play Barbie." from the entire enemy team. :\ I have never had a good online experience with CoD, Halo, Gears, Counter Strike or Unreal. And I think that is what discourages most women to play games.
QuietCannon 1 year ago 13
@QuietCannon An online game is only as good as its community, an indisputable fact of social interaction. Many men online dont know how to handle a woman speaking at them, sexisim is as ingrained as racisim. When confronted with something that confuses them these Boys go into 'Tard rage'. When a human cant fathom something they get angry at it. Sad facts. =(
Though on a personal note, play BC2 instead. Its comunity is better because its marketed towards better people then Modern War 2.
Farbo123 1 year ago
@QuietCannon Man that sucks cuz idk a straight male who wouldn't like a girl to be into games. They MUST'VE been gay!
fmcneillii 1 year ago
@QuietCannon it makes me feel ashamed and disscusted that SOME men actualy say that because alot of girls are actualy better than they are but men are really compeditive and some men dont like it when girls are better then them at some stuff.
chill9832 5 months ago
@QuietCannon As a male I am usually irked by what some of my gender is doing, this is one of them. For me I usually dont have much of a character difference online versus offline(IRL,in real life). I also am mainly a pc gamer(i dont own a console, sorry to disappoint) and since I dont get too good of a internet I usually dont buy alot of multiplayer games(though I do have tf2, L4d2 and have played wow). But I have played enough hours(i think I got atlest 50-75 on tf2 alone) contd...
TcpfMs 4 months ago
@TcpfMs that I get the fair idea of how disheartening it is when you(or me) is trying to enjoy fighting off zombies in L4D2 and then one guy is harrassing one of the other players resulting in both of them dieing and the male complaining off. All in all im hoping my logic lens of acting as I do in real life on the internet isnt true for all people, that would be scary somewhat.
TcpfMs 4 months ago
@TcpfMs A lot of gamers IRL barely have the guts to even talk to a girl gamer IRL, let alone in such a disrespectful tongue like the guys on XBL do.
However, it's been a year since my comment, and I just rewatched the video. I have since given WoW a try, and play it daily, so I've now had more of a social experience in both gaming fields.
I can say - Shooters have made me throw out my headset. Never a nice experience. On WoW, I've gotten ONE sexist jerk attack me. One. (Continued)
QuietCannon 4 months ago
@QuietCannon I've been treated like an adult on WoW. On FPS, I'm never even treated like a human being. I don't think I've ever had a polite thing said to me on a PC or Xbox game. Either it's nasty and degrading, or nothing is said at all. I have to say at least in my experience, it's the polar opposite of what these girls stated.
Who knows, maybe it's a server thing as far as WoW goes, and my bad luck as far as shooters go. I'll never know though, like I said, shooters have made me silent. :)
QuietCannon 4 months ago
@QuietCannon well people do tend to get competitive when it comes to the twitchy reflex(and internet lag) of fps. wow on the other hand not so much pvp is there but it isnt predominant. For shooters I dont bother talking since thats another part of my focus that I could instead focus on the game. btw do you play more on computer or console? just curious. I think if I remember correctly wow does have private servers that guilds hostt but i dont remember.
TcpfMs 4 months ago
@TcpfMs I would say CPU. I have lots of multiplayer games for Xbox and Wii, but the experience on MMOs makes me much happier so I spend more time on the computer, since as I said before, I'm not really treated any worse, or better than a male player on WoW, only equal. :)
QuietCannon 3 months ago
@QuietCannon well atleast that does mean there is some people in games who arent on the gender thing which is good :D
TcpfMs 3 months ago
@QuietCannon Whether you have a vagina or not, you won't find any sense of community in any online fps nowadays. They aren't treating you like that for your gender, they treat everyone like shit.
fragman08 2 months ago
@QuietCannon well i guess part of that could be prior experience(i got into gaming with a gameboy color at age 11)(but not to any major platform(computer(for me) though i used to play on the N64) till about 8 yrs ago) so social not-inept. also since the internet is usually not that great I usually refrain from talking much or mute people to gain some frame rates. For me ive never found wow compelling(sure I played it for 2 months but beyond that I didnt feel too much for it)
TcpfMs 4 months ago
@QuietCannon lol if someone would have told me to go play "barbie" i would say "how old do you think i am? FIVE??" i dont care what anyone says i love first person shooter games.

@QuietCannon My condolences about your boyfriend. He must be touched.
As a group leader of BG's Ive had to lead the Worst of WoW with attractive girls who I game with on WoW. I practically have to shield them from the drooling lechers that are the boys and just neglected socially inept men that would join. All in All, online gaming problems can only be solved by a bit of work to carve out a part of the community you like and can play with, to avoid the downy masses.

anyways thats a small view of my side of this argument.

GFvillain 1 year ago
@GFvillain So basically what you're saying is that women don't deserve compliments. Sheerly for being women, they deserve ridicule?
xMissInfidelx 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx lol well ridicule makes it sound mean. like i said for the most part it's not malicious. c'mon though girls arn't immune to fucking with, i'll admit i might do it a little more to girls then i would to the average guy, but i'm sure you get more of both sides with guys all over you as well.
isn't it annoying/boring to just get guys drooling over you? maybe i'm wrong idk..
all i'm saying is you get plenty of compliments "sheerly for being a woman" so why not get teased as well?
GFvillain 1 year ago
@GFvillain I don't mind due criticism. If I'm doing something wrong in the game, correct me. I don't mind due compliments either. If I did something commendable, tell me. GF, it sounds like you're just being obnoxious to women in games, perhaps in some reverse-psychological flirting.
xMissInfidelx 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx lol well criticism and teasing are 2 different things imo. teasing can be used as a tool of affection even i think. so maybe you're right teasing is a form of flirting, but i wouldn't say it's obnoxious, why is it obnoxious to say i mess with girls, but guys fuck with each other all day on these games, in good fun.
fucking limit.... cont.....
GFvillain 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx .....cont
you said you don't mind being criticized for playing badly, but you're thinking of it on way more of a technical or business level, i'm just talking socially. in vent or guild chat when everyones chatting. i mean the gameplay is used in the chatting obviously, but i'm not saying i trash women for not having the highest dps or not being the best pvper, i mean i might tease em about it here and there, but i'm saying thats not what my main point is about in general.
GFvillain 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx and guys trash eachother in game all the time, i just like to do it to girls as well, instead of drowning em in compliments like alot of guys do.

...and would you like us to talk to you like most of us talk to other players?Have you ever listened to a dialog between two male team mates that failed on something? It is one of the most disgusting things in life!
4400seriesFAN 1 year ago
@xMissInfidelx No I think what he was talking about is the guys who fall all over themselves at learning there is a girl in the same game with them and how these guys will ask the stupidest things after just meeting a girl online. The opposite of that is the douchebags who are rude and tell women to "get in the kitchen" or tell them to perform a sexual favor. There's a happy medium where a guy can make friends with girls he might game with but isn't trying to date them or be an ass to them.
Thrashfan21 1 year ago
@GFvillain
4400seriesFAN 1 year ago
plus it's more fun for both parties i think, i mean guys knock eachother all day, i'm sure it gets old having guys who you'll never meet swoon over you constantly, a little back and forth(playfully of course) never hurt anyone.
cont....... fuckin limit
GFvillain 1 year ago
i never do it maliciously or go that far with it, but i kind of tease, pick on, or whatever you want to call it, to girls because i figure first of all you're probably getting pumped up most of the day with guys drooling over a girl gamer that its needed to knock you down a peg or 2 , to balance it out a little if you will.
cont....

Chykara 2 years ago
@Chykara I'm not sure how unusual it is for women to play RPGs, especially Final Fantasy. It is a game clearly geared towards both sexes, with 8 and 10 maybe even being marketed more towards women. I think its far more novel when women play FPSs. Regardless, RPGs are fantastic and I have enjoyed a few.
xMissInfidelx 2 years ago
true. its novel b/c it is popular in the game industry now, but as we all know, it will change as it has done in the past. females i know dont play games. i develop games myself so i appreciate the older games (nes, snes genesis etc.), which is why rpgs have held my interest. not too many women have even played chrono trigger or hell ff1 but rather see what the bf is playing and try to be good in the hottest thing. that is the separation that guys get mad about when it comes to girl gamers.
Chykara 2 years ago
I think a lot of it has to do with adrenaline. I think there may be more guys playing FPS's because the game is a more adrenaline-based experience. I think violence and taste also play a part, also RPG's are great for both sexes I think. It's more story based than mindless shooters. Kill this guy, watch for cover. Go get the health pack. You know what I mean? Everybody enjoys a good story. Final Fantasy is great for that isn't it, especially 8 since it was primarily a love story.
N4GMetal 2 years ago

I myself am actually in college to
YourLocalSage 2 years ago
I like your response video. Just earlier today, actually, my older brother said to me, "Female gamers don't even exist." I myself played a good 3 years of WoW, raiding hardcore for about a year and half of it. I understand your thoughts on MMOs and girls, and have witnessed that sort of harassment before, but more-so they seem to be lusted over, especially the ones who raided or did hardcore PvP. I personally liked having girls around in raids for their difference in opinion and point of view.
YourLocalSage 2 years ago
after my sister started playing online in noticed that the friends that i had previously made would hear her voice and instantly gravitate towards her and almost forget who i was. she always got the medick on TF2 and was always revived before me on L4D people would apologize to her after shooting at her, even if they were on the opposite team ah her.
