  • Take me back !!!!

  • I actually heard this at a 4 Season concert before this version came out. Was shocked to see this version make it and not Frankie's.

  • So simple - and hypnotic..

Where did all those yesterday's go?

  • Odyssey - Native New Yorker: this music composition has always amazed me because it is imaginative and it's quality muisic art to listen to!

  • A kick-ass song with great lyrics and great instrumental work. Phenomenal to drive your Cutlass Supreme to with your "Greg Brady hair" on LA's freeways. I just linked this to a cousin overseas who had never heard it before and she liked it, too.

  • This is such a wonderful song In the U.S., the song went to number three on the disco chart. but I would have as number ONE!!!!

  • #1!!!

  • this always gives me goose bumps and for some reason I want to cry. Happy/sad the beat the tune the arrangement aaaawww

  • @r4b32t11 - I know exactly what you mean. This song has that effect on me too. It's hopeful and exuberant, but also plaintive and melancholy. I hear it and I think of so many things about my life, but also - the skyline that existed in New York when this song was released.

  • Augustine Benjamin Emuwa...aka..Augey...Knits and Knotts.com

  • I'm not a Native New Yorker...but I've always liked this song...I was in New York before the World Trade...I remember sittin in Sarde's with my brother LaShawn Standberry aka Shaw...Co-Editor of Prabathenum Newspaper aka India Post Prabathenum Means "Good Morning" in India....LaShawn Standberry printed For Major General. in the Army..he could really print! I went to a Law Firm and got the job .... I just showed him my Resume...I had my oldest son, Augustine B. Emuwaey aka Augi,Knits and Knotts.

  • Still sounds as good as it did all those years ago!

  • Back in 1978 I entered a disco dance contest at the local shopping mall in Charleston S.C. This was the song my partner and I picked and we won first place! We won $100.00 wow, the memories!

  • This singer has such a beautiful and understated delivery.

  • heart & soul my New York b4 then Italy Donna Baia

and you can take that to the bank with an iou ...eeh eeh

  • The female lead singer is an absolute beauty. What a class act. Beautiful face ,great smile that is geniune. Happy to be there doing what she is doing, no conceit. Very tastefully performed, total class act. I rate them very high in all areas. Pleasure to watch them perform

  • @marseillelangres You are absolutely right,my friend,I agree with you 100%.

  • @chihuan1000 How sweet of you to let me know what you thought of my comment. This lady and her singers are such a pleasure to watch and listen to. I have no doubt that they are the most pleasant people to be around. They are just pleasing to watch.

  • @marseillelangres Yes totaly agree with you this is classic on one of the best in the disco era

  • @MrLuizazo Thank you very much. I take that as a compliment

  • wonderful love this jam was a teenager back then times i will never 4 get thx youtube

  • This played during the blackout of 77

  • Ahhh.. The Statue of Liberty's nite out!

  • HI im from liverpool in britain im 42 ive never been out of britain in my life before i die my number 1 goal is to stay in NEW YORK god bless new york and USA

  • @james7167 You should if you get the chance. I've been all over the globe and there's something special about NYC.

  • A junior at Brooklyn Tech! I was a bad boy. Had a girl in every borough. Two in Queens, that where I lived!!!

  • My film production teacher in NYC, Wm. P Wilson, knew them. I moved to NYC from Ohio in '77 when this was a hit. I thought it was powerful and still do. Uprated and shared. Greetings from France, after NYC.

  • A GEM!

  • Yes, one of my all-time faves...loved disco as a kid!

  • Too good!!! Back then we had so many talented artists who could sing. The charts were filled with songs that are considered classics today, from many music genres. Not just sweet voices, but music also, people playing instruments. Shame there is not the same choices now. I am glad I grew up to these songs. Great post, thank you for sharing.

  • THIS IS OUR ANTHEM MY NYC SISTERS~~ I WAS LIVING IN HARLEM AND JUST KNEW THEY MADE THIS SONG FOR ME~~ 3 DECADES LATER GOT MY BABY, AND GET DOORS OPEN "IF YOU CAN MAKE IT IN NEW YORK YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE" SO NICE THEY NAMED US TWICE!

  • The singer has a spellbinding voice.

  • "no one opens the door for a native New Yorker....."

  • I dig all this music cuz its the shit i grew up 2?

  • Never seen this video or the band. The lead singer is just beautiful. One of my all-time favorite songs.]

  • I'm from the old school, and I tell you what this music is much more better than the music. Music from 70's and 80's had depth and meaning

  • Great song who is the singer what a babe.

  • thnxs so much for posting i l0ve this song wooow ~!!! it makes me think of go0d times~!! lol

  • I discovered this song in 1990, thanks to a French local radio station in my region, and hadn't heard it since !!! This moment is quite moving....Thanks a lot...

  • I had just move to NYC to Fly with Pan Am. Love it

  • Bass player! lovin' the 'fro. The lovely ladies too. Great song.

  • Hm. I know Odyssey was composed of 3 members, the man looks kinda funny with his guitar. They should have had a background group in this vid!

  • People rag on the Seventies for disco, but it was better than the shit kids have today...

  • @cosmicdingo Only people that ragged on disco were country bumpkins, toothless Uncle Jeds who had no rhythm and couldn't dance. Disco raked in more money in 2 years alone than any other genre in music.

  • I've never seen them perform before. Thanks for sharing. Unforgettable song.

  • if a music artist is smart they should bring this kind of music back in what ever version, It will make one of the biggest hits for today's music. Just mix it up , play with it. you (Artist) will make the biggest hit in history, make salsa, make it reggae, make whatever it will work.

  • THANK YOU for posting a version with the sax intro that is MISSING on almost every other video, because it's been removed from practically every 'Greatest Hits" or 'Seventies Compilation' CD version, and wasn't on much vinyl...(a small thing but it matters!) If anyone has seen another vid w/ the intro, please let me know!

  • man, those Lopez sisters were hot!

  • what a BRILLIANT song. they dont make em like this anymore!!!!

  • we need the 70s back

  • Although I was in elementary school when this song came out, I always wanted to go to a club and do the hustle when I heard it on the radio.

  • one of favorite songs of all time...they were so gorgeous!

  • after chic these were my fave group...but they always loked hapy regardless of what they sang...like this is basically a sad lament...and if u watch inside out its the same,happiness..maybe on if u r looking for a way ou its differant, but i am usually too emotional by then to recall

  • @rhylmark please excuse my spelling.. i was a bit.. refreshed!....but i stand/stagger my comments

  • I get goosebumps when I hear this song. It speaks to me, "a native New Yorker" , who even though I wasn't born here consider myself one!! Have lived her for 36 years of my life (most of it).

  • WOw---never knew this was so old....thought 80's..not 70's..but a great classic!!

  • when i first heard this song, i was in love. its been over 34 yrs since it was released and i still fall in love everytime i hear it; which isn't nearly often enough.

  • one of the best songs of the 1970swith gogeous lady vocalists!

  • Always loved this song

  • One of my all time favorites ~ really touches my heart and love the vibe of that era ~ part of my idea of heaven would be to be transported back into a disco in the 70s. Love the line ...'You should know the score by now, you're a native New Yorker' and 'when you still believe love could really be like a broadway show' ~ Thankyou for this brill video

  • I found out recently that I have to go to NY soon for a business trip and I cannot stop singing the song to myself!

  • OH MY GOSH, I had never seen a performance of this song. Thank you for posting this. It makes my appreciation for the song that much greater.

  • Great Dance Song

First heard this song in the Stud movie by Joan Collins. My U-tube homework took me to Odyssey and their Carabean roots. Love the group and the tune. I can easily see

it at as a sound track during credits at the ending of a film.

  • Melody and dance- especially when joined by a voice of honey for the soft and whiskey for the edges- makes you almost forget that she's saying love is but a mirage. But these elements blend so smoothly and lovely that a cynical lyric manages to soar nonetheless, carried by a voice that knows of pain and joy.

  • Melody and dance especially when joined by a voice of honey for the soft and whiskey for the edges. How well these elements blended despite a cynical lyric which soared nonetheless along a romantic melody!

  • i had 2 fav girls in my life, jeanie and stacy. 187th webster. those were the days. web park. girls where are you. big rush(darryl)

  • Wow! So many memories on this song because I came to NYC in 1977!

  • One of my favorite songs from the Disco era. I had the 8-track! LOL Hard to believe it was almost 35 years ago. Still a quaity song. Sure dosen't sound "old", does it?

  • One of my most favorites of the 70's

  • Hell yeah, were DID all those yesterdays go? I was 17 back in 1977 ,lol! GREAT SONG!

  • @popazz1 I don't but I know you will agree it was like it was yesterday..

  • @solomonmorris7 ,

    Hahahahahaha,yeah,like yesterday,well almost,lol.It was,for me,a 'stand alone' song from back then.I'm not a native New Yorker,not even an American,but it didn't seem to matter.The song got EVERYONE,wherever they were,up on their feet.

  • @popazz1 So true and spoken like a true music historian . I downloaded it from iTunes. don't you think Alisa Keyes took from this song for her song empire state of mind ?

  • @solomonmorris7 ,

Thank you, though it would be something of a 'stretch' to say I'm a 'true music historian',lol, but I appreciate the sentiment. As for Alicia Keyes I'm unable to answer your comment as I don't know enough about her music, though I recognise the song title. I'm sure it's on YouTube so I'll have to listen to the song so I'll be able to form an opinion.

  • I love this song, but it deserves a better video.

  • Native New Yorker til I die!!!!!!!

  • I love this shit man. Brings back so much memories.

  • Damn! What great music! This music takes me right back to elementary school! I am so glad I grew up during this time, and what great music! :)

  • This song is the reason I want to visit New York. Love my Disco!

  • I played this at a 100,000 watt flame thrower back in the 70's and always made me home sick, remembering all the good times as a kid playing stick ball.

    Brooklyn,St. Johns Place,yeah summer......great times.

  • Special Thanks !!! ★★★★★

  • This song brings back such memories it's almost painful to look back.

  • @cheengators I totally feel you.

  • I have always loved this song. Everyone I knew back then as a teeny bopper told me they'd beat me up up I didn't listen to our midwest rock bands. REO Speedwagon, crap that they are, is considered rock by my peers and older. I love old GOOD disco, and this is GOOD. Isn't she beautiful? Her church quoir voice just doesn't go with her looks, but that only goes to prove you can't judge until you experience!

  • LOVE this song!!!!!!!

  • I can still Thelma dancing to this groove....she turned this song OUT! Ya hear!?!?

  • @choosewisely1 lol i was jus thinking about that thelma dancing to this song when they was trying to raise money to save the childcare center.

  • Classic!

  • I often wondered were they really the singers behind the song. Or was it really studio session singers. Just wondering. Nothing against Odyssey because I love all their hits.

  • Oh snap! this is back when the Filipino guy was in the group. Check out the fro.

  • Beautiful voice, that lead singer.

  • Dam who is the hottie signing lead? The voice sounds familar but i do not reconigse the face.

  • @Tampa0123456789 She is beautiful, and so is the bass playing lead vocalist of A Taste of Honey!

  • Love this cut !!! Thank you :)

  • This is the bomb....love the cut...love the city!!!

  • 1977 was a great year.

Always a proid New Yorker that think that the country should remember this fondly.....

May all of you live to 100 and me 100 minus a day, so I wold never have to know good people like you pass away!

  • There was no need to be naked back then. All you really needed is talent.

  • Awww the sweet memories when i first came to this country. Life was so simple and sweet late in 70's, early 80's.

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. It really brings a lot of nostalgia and good memories for me. In my younger days, this song inspired me to dream of what it would be like to live in NYC, to hope and to dream that someday I could make it. Hearing this song again just makes me remember the life's journey I took to get here.

  • I too love this song. It just feels right. The lyrics, melody, vocals everything. Seems like it was the 80's that i heard it. In the last two years i have worn this song OUT!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this! been looking for a live video of this group since I saw Thelma from Good Times dancing to this song
