  • that comic looks sick

  • I download the comic, but, i would like to have the book on my hands :(

And this is a total masterpiece

  • I read it 6 times

  • I got It lol

  • i think frank miller is a better artist/writer than alan moore... and it makes me mad that people obsess over moore but the reason is he adds all these characters that arent imporotant. and his storys dilute so much that its tedious. although. it may be the artists fault... which i do believe really contributes.

  • @joker9494949494 I'd say people obsess over Moore because he's the William Blake of comics and is a better writer than nearly anyone else in this medium, I can't ever imagine Miller as having created something as multilayered as the world of Watchmen, if Moore never had written anything else the impact he had with Watchmen on the comicbook is only comparable to the impact that Citizen Kane had on film.

  • @cha5 watchmen used the same ideas as Dark knight Returns which came out years before.

    1) vigilantes illegal and only one all powerful remains, superman (DKR) and dr manhattan(watchmen).

    2) cold war raging on, a missle actually hits in DKR.

3)one vigilante returns out of retirement for moral reasons.

etc etc. its kind of annoying actualy, not to mention miller steals is ideas but he does a decent amount of new dialogue, ill give him that. V for Vendetta came from 1984, its obvious.

  • @joker9494949494 Not really except for surface similarities and TDKR came out several months before Watchmen, if you recall Watchmen ran as a limited series from 1986-1987

    1. Watchmen dissected the very meaning of the superhero, how a Batman like costume would not be all that practical in crime fighting, the original Night Owl's cape giving him trouble, and an associate of his being shot dead because his cape got caught in a revolving door.

    2. The superhero changes everything on planet earth

  • @joker9494949494 Cont

from Nixon winning a second term, to America winning the Vietnam war, to advancing our technology at a rapid rate, to America being the sole superpower thanks to Dr Manhattan.

3, Moore explores the basic fact that a commited costumed vigilante in real life ala Rorschach would be a psychopath

4, V For Vendetta was a commentary on Thatcherite England and what Moore thought of it, plus fascism vs anarchy not robot submission to Big Brother.

  • @cha5 meant Moore steals his ideas btw, mishap on my part. but still those are simple ideas. he got credit for "revolutionizing" comics when adams and miller started it.

  • @joker9494949494 Nothing about Watchmen is "simple" not the fact that he wrote a comic within a comic and the fact that he and Gibbons created their own world that was just as structured as anything Moorcock gave us with a multiverse, Watchmen was far more complex and than anything Miller or Adams gave us. A big factor that went into the creation of Watchmen was the Charlton superheros and the Three Penny Opera, see Tales Of The Black Freighter.

  • @joker9494949494 Also Moore's influence in revolutionizing comics goes more in the Will Eisner / Harvey Kurtzman route, not Neal Adams & Frank Miller.

  • I believe Moore himself said he wanted to do with Watchmen what Harvey Kurtzman and Wally Wood did with SuperDuperman in Mad back in the 1950s, how the concept of the superhero would conflict with reality,

but do it as a drama not a straight satire.

  • i'm intrigued by Watchmen, haven't seen the film or read the Graphic Novel but does the bloodstain on the cover set the tone? lol

  • @theSneakySasquatch

not really, it is kinda meant to be that they're not so it shows the reader that the "heroes" are just normal people and not superhuman ones

  • no super powers? the people in the novel that are supposed to be super heroes DO have powers, they are just not really unique powers. they are just gifted with super human levels of athleticism, durability, and strength.

  • good review and now ive gotta read it, and by the way, A WEEK?

  • Can i just pick this up and go? Or will it be crap if i know nothing about the heroes?

  • @SeePeeee There is nothing prior..so yes.

  • you see this book in borders all the time and they never sell out. this will be my next pick up.

  • it's cool I started reading today im in chapter 2 and the smiley face represents a clock and the blood if you look closely is an arrow of the clock and it is pointing 5 minutes to midnight just like the doomsday clock

  • alan moore has a big beard and hair dude

  • @commandercody229 He eats brains for breakfast

  • I gotta say that I love the style it's animated in... when you see someone get beaten you can't help but symphatize because they just look kind in a certain charm...

  • As someone who has seen(And read) both "Watchmen" versions, I find TDK to be better than both.

  • i just got my copy today !

  • where can you find that comic book?

  • any where

  • @Benman98 bookstores like barerns and nobel and comic shops

  • @Benman98 I saw them at the bookstore "Borders" and "Barns and Nobels"

  • whoa alan moore looks insane!

  • he is

  • really?

  • no, not really, he's just VERY weird, but VERY smart

  • right well saw the movie...amazing and i want to read this but i get bored of reading...really easy would any1 recomend it?

  • Now I want to read the novel and then watch the movie.

  • should i buy it. i saw some nudity and i wasn't sure if they would let me get it

  • where'd you get it?

i don't wana fuckin buy it online,

where can i get this damn book?!?

  • i got mine today at borders books for 19.99

  • A comic store, barnes and noble.

Sorry if I speeled stuff wrong; in hurry.

  • grapic novel- meaning: one glorified long ass comic book with alota details and much more structure.

  • This was actually published as a series of 12 monthly comic books. A lot of popular graphic novels were as well. If you want to read something written as a graphic novel, try something like "Asterios Polyp", or "American Born Chinese."

  • hey dude would yu say the watchmen graphic novel is a little to intense with the violence and so fourth for people under 15?

  • Im not sure but I was 15 when I read it.

  • I wouldnt Im 11 and read it its not that intense it might be for a noob but it still rox

  • @Y2jandMannyR4life I actually read it just a few weeks ago and im 13

It's not like its mentally intense and as far as cus words go any kid from 10 and up hear every word in the book at school

  • is it basically a comic book?

  • ya know they think there fighting crime but then they kill there daughters and kill the cops NOT SO GOOD XD

  • Kill there daughters what the heck are you talking about

  • Watchmen is one of the greatest graphic novels of all time!!!

  • i prefer v for vendetta but watchmen was great

  • They're Both Great, Both of them are after all done by Alan Moore

  • true

  • I saw V for Vendetta and I was wondering, should I read the graphic novel? I thought the movie was great but I can't decide if I should get the graphic novel. Any advice?

  • i say get it it is a great book

  • v for vendetta is a confusing book. but it is great

  • @planman109 correction: it IS the best graphic novel of all time

  • Comment removed

  • I normally like hardcover more but i think the paper back version looks better. Great review i'm really excited to read it.

  • im days from getting this gn they said theyd get it on monday ....i hope i can get it they orderd 5 of them !!

  • where is the best place to buy it?? walmart or a comic store?

  • depends.

if you want it just to read it, go to wal mart

if you want to keep it as a collectors book go to a comic store (and in a few years, eBayers will have high bids for a classic such as this)

  • thanks

  • a comic book store. They will have a whole bunch of stuff in comic book stores. he is a tip: dont buy comic books/graphic novels/dvds/videogames at walmart!

  • yea tell me about it, i dont, i just want to buy the version that this guy has

  • yeh just like the cds there they cencord even nervana !! so black metal would have no chance there!! not that youd get it there anyway ....

  • ...or anything for that matter.

  • walmart doesnt sell it

  • i might get this book today

  • Not exactly a very good review, to be honest. You just sort of ramble on about pointless things like the cover. Seriously, just write the review out in advance.

  • thanks man, great review

  • I have no grudge against the Americans, there is nothing wrong with them making the movie, but everyones giving them the credit for the watchmen, when it was us, the British that came up with it. Obviously it wasn't me personally but still...

  • Who exactly is "giving credit to the Americans" for "the watchmen", as you call it? The notion of giving a whole nation credit for the work of two people is absurd, whether you're talking about America or the UK.

  • First of all, I'm not American, dipshit. Either way, I don't appreciate you polluting my inbox with your ignorant and hateful comments.

No one's forcing you to like Watchmen, so just fuck off and go back to watching whatever the fuck ignorant tools like to watch.

  • dude... weak.

    im not american either

    (CANADA w00t)

    but thats just disgraceful.

  • dude this was pretty dumb. we can see the novel you dontneed to describe the front cover to us.

  • omg...long winded much?

  • i don't have the time to make money to buy it, so i've been trying to get the online one. As in the download of it. Any help?

  • such a great read.

  • Thanks very much, i have wanted to read it for a while now and havent had the time really.

But i have just ordered it on amazon and will read soon as i can

  • youll love it ;)
