Even though Alexander had a better season, he isnt the better RB, when the majority of his line left, he choked. same thing would have happened if emmitts line left him.

For every big play Sanders made, he killed 4 drives with tackles for losses or no gains. That's a game killer. Barry was amazingly agile no doubt, but he was a dancer and rarely plowed when he should have. Emmitt was a stop and go runner and plowed when needed. Emmit was also a 3 down back. great reciever and blocker. Running ability is only one aspect of a great back.

Yes, he did throw 32 TDs in 1995. Which was about 20 more than his average. That season was a fluke for him. Every other season his TD/Int ratio was close to even. All I remember about watching games when Scotty played was commentators saying something about him throwing off his back foot before interceptions.

arguably the best O-line of all time paved the way for him in SB's 27 and 28. in the later part of the 90's they lost alot of those guys and yet he still produced so lets give credit when credit is due. he took what they gave him, followed his blocks and had arguably the best vision to find holes and exploit them.

Extend Barry's average five yards per carry over the number of carries emmit had.

They ran an ace back 3 wide set. the best a front can do against that is stack 7 in the box, typically though you'll only get six in the box with the nickel set. barry also had a pretty good line. though admittedly not as good as dallas' also emmitt's got 3 rings. and more tds than any back in history by a wide margin.

Suggesting Scott Mitchell was a good quarterback in Detroit will get you into big trouble.
Yes, he did throw 32 TDs in 1995. Which was about 20 more than his average. That season was a fluke for him. Every other season his TD/Int ratio was close to even. All I remember about watching games when Scotty played was commentators saying something about him throwing off his back foot before interceptions.
Again Emmit has no records that aren't tied directly to longevity.

Scott Mitchell's career rating for Detroit is actually less than 1 point lower than Aikmans....Mitchell had 34 tds in 95 and the lions had the #1 offense in the NFL..Aikman had 20+ tds ONCE in his entire career! Hell emmitt had more 20+ tds seasons rushing than aikman had passing!

It was due to he fact he danced....he would have 19 carries for 20 yards then break an 80 yards run...but he killed 5 drives on the way to that big run. That doesnt win games. Also Barry got to rest on third downs bc he couldnt block for shit...and Emmitt played another 17 games in the postseason where his ypc went UP!!! barry on the other hand folded in the postseason...the guy had 386 yards in 6 games and scored ONE touchdown! Emmitt in 17 games had 1900+ yards and 22 tds!

@panther2552 Those are all career stats, more reflective of longevity and not skill IN MY OPINION. The reson Sanders has so many negative rushes is because his O-line was absolutely atrocious. Also, the defense knew Sanders would get the ball almost every play, unlike Smith with Aikman at QB. Sanders had to run for his life for a four yard gain. The Superbowl rings are all team accomplishments. Lets just agree to disagree I suppose.

You see the Lions during that time had the number one offense in the league behind , Herman Moore, Bret Perriman and Johnny Morton. They ran a three receiver base back then forcing teams to drop in nickle defenses. Dallas ran an I formation where Defenses could stack 8 in the box. I can agree to disagree respectfully :)

The Cowboys are so hated, and the Lions aren't, so it's easy for the Dallas haters to dis Smith and praise Sanders. The Lions didn't take any titles away from their teams like big 'D' did. Plus, too much of the talk is one-dimensional, just centering on only running styles and highlight reel runs. Smith was one of the top 3 (at least) backs when considering all phases of the game, imo.

arguably the best O-line of all time paved the way for him in SB's 27 and 28. in the later part of the 90's they lost alot of those guys and yet he still produced so lets give credit when credit is due. he took what they gave him, followed his blocks and had arguably the best vision to find holes and exploit them.
