The EU already have most of the trappings & institutions of a REAL STATE (an executive, parliament,justice ministry (Eurojust),court, currency, central bank,police force,planned military etc.).

The only thing missing are the CITIZENS and THIS is why they need to get the Lisbon Treaty ratified by Ireland !

Once ratified...we all become citizens of the EU FIRST AND FOREMOST and as legal citizens we will be forced to abide by the laws of our new un-chosen state,...or face the consequences.

Oh, if I had to say something as a EU citizen - keep the government closer to the citizens than to the corporations. Otherwise, we may end up with a warped democracy like in the USA(but with a worse economy in comparsion).
