I'm happy I got to see 'em live even though Mathias Blad had problem with the sound in his earpiece on Wacken '07 and sounded like crap on videos and missed notes all the time. But when I saw 'em live they were nothing but awesome!

falconer isn't folk metal... i agree no power metal but if anything it's just basic heavy metal... cause they dont use any folk instruments no pipes or anything of that nature maybe they use a mandolin time to time
Actually Falconer is pretty much a power metal band with folk influences. A different kind of power metal than most bands within the genre (check Kamelot's latest albums -kinda hard to understand why they're considered power metal either).

Well, Iced Earth is usually considered more on the thrash metal side, but they're labeled as power, too, most of the time. Blind Guardian, instead, began as a speed metal band that got so complex people just didn't know what to call them and ended up saying they were power metal. Lol.
falconer is folk metal... Power/Folk to be exact, though their "Dreams and Pyres" has CLEAR Symhonic elements... as for folk, check out Mindtraveller and Quest for the Crown... They use "folk instrument replica" aka keyboard :)

@Seabutcher Dragonforce is not only known because of Guitar Hero. I listened to them way before because I followed the career of Herman Li. They do play music and, beside, all that "fast noise" really fits well inside because it's all about the energy there. Lyrics are not that important when it comes to the energy of the guitar. Beside they're extreme power metal and the only frustration would be that so many kids are hotshots jizzing on that band and not giving chance to others. Thats not prob

@Seabutcher i agree their lyrics need work but their singer is gone so the new one (whoever it will be) i hope brings a bit of variety although it can be argued that they are metaphorical and that its their symoblism that caries the message. as for guitar i think sam needs work herman does always play fast but accompanied by a nice balance of slow melodies (or ive seen from him playing without sam).

OMG I love this, can anyone recommend some bands that are like this, basically power metal instrumentation, but not really high pitched vocals. I've already checked out the really popular power metal (Stratovarius, rhapsody, blind guardian etc..) Of the power metal I do have, Kamelot is probably my favourite but i really want bands similar to this in vocal style more than anything

When I listen to Dragonforce, I hear raw untapped potential. They've got skill, just no fucking idea how to use it.
The lyrics have no sense or theme, the guitar is mostly just fast noise with no particular beat or tune.
Dragonforce only got big because they were on Guitar Hero.
Bands like Falconer, however, have some truly great songs and just aren't appreciated nearly enough.

@Seabutcher i agree their lyrics need work but their singer is gone so the new one (whoever it will be) i hope brings a bit of variety although it can be argued that they are metaphorical and that its their symoblism that caries the message. as for guitar i think sam needs work herman does always play fast but accompanied by a nice balance of slow melodies (or ive seen from him playing without sam).

OMG I love this, can anyone recommend some bands that are like this, basically power metal instrumentation, but not really high pitched vocals. I've already checked out the really popular power metal (Stratovarius, rhapsody, blind guardian etc..) Of the power metal I do have, Kamelot is probably my favourite but i really want bands similar to this in vocal style more than anything
