  • Could be because I never get tired of Eric Idle, but, looking at the various deleted scenes from their movies, I have the feeling that they often cut good scenes featuring Eric. Especially in the Meaning of Life (many of the deleted scenes have Eric in them and I thought they were all good, or even very good). This one is obviously highly controversial, and I agree that it is a bit too long, it would have needed a little re-writing, but I find it as funny as many other scenes that were included.

  • What idiot cut this. These scene cut is relict for religious hypocrisy which made to society and "watchdogs". These are not offending these scenes are funny.

  • jew nazis!!! funny thing is they are real.

  • how relevant for today Israel

  • Didn't really laugh much with this. I wasn't offended, but I didn't find it funny. Felt like they were trying too hard. Song they did while marching was good, though.

  • Terry Gilliam's a genius for designing that simple but effective Judean People's Front logo. It encapsulates the entire political statement of the Otto sequence. I suppose it's up for debate whether the ultimate reason for the scene's removal is pacing and comedy quality, or just self censorship. I say it was worth including, although I do recognise the level of controversy could've overwhelmed the discourse, resulting in narrower distribution, and distracted from all the film's other qualities.

  • @PurushaDesa It was the entire Python team who decided to cut the Otto stuff. I've just finished 'Michael Palin diaries 1969 - 1979 - The Python Years'. Well worth buying, great book.

  • The details of how this scene got cut is revealed in the new book 'Life of (Brian) Jesus' written by the films editor. Available from Python's 'deadparrotshop' or Amazon.

  • The sign that is the the sign that shall be the sign!

  • where the fuck is hitler?

  • I don't think this should've made the final cut, it wouldn't have been too popular with Jews or touchy people, but I'm glad people who can ignore the political correctness can come here and watch it because it's very funny.

  • @ClockworkComputer

I understand your comments but I think it was still funny enough to trump the PC angle. And any scene in which Spike Milligan ever appears must surely have some merit!

  • This got cut? I was about to go rent the movie again (if it's available) to watch it on a big(ger) screen. Who edited it?

  • @bigbuffler

    Jews

  • Remember Masada !

  • I can see why they cut this, but its still bloody funny!

    "Mein cock!"

  • ". Featuring the suicide squad."

Actually it features a mockery of racist zionism ruling Israel.

  • And the little guy and... the other fat one.... THEIR NAMES WILL LIVE FOR EVER! xD

  • @Bogee195 Eventually!

    ^^

  • Difficult; though the crack suicide squad attack at the end of the crucifixion is legend; I am not sure about this one; and this not only because I cannot endure the English trying the make the Germans look ridiculous but due to their overdoing of the scene; but if they had the Nazi allusions turned down a lot, leaving nothing than rants about Jewish purity and stop unveiling the suicide squad joke but make the JPF as a dark and powerful menace the ending would be a lot funnier.

  • The first Otto scene (false suicide) looks more to fit with the style of Mel Brooks, but the second is pure Python.

  • Bet you Kim Jung Il has a suicide squad. Probably got the idea from watching the Life of Brian deleted scenes.

  • Am reading Palin's diary and he mentions the Otto-scene rather a lot. Brill to be able to put pics to the words :) thanx for sharing. I'm not so sure it shouldn't have stayed in the film either....erm...or something...

  • "There's a man we call our leader,

he's fine and strong and brave,

    and we follow him unquestioning

    towards an early grave!

He gives us hope for sacrifice

and a chance to die in vain,

and if we're one of the lucky ones

we will live to die again!"

    Genius. Pure epic genius.

  • haha! wow! ive never seen this before XD thanks for posting this!

  • why does this pop up when i search "nazi vs jew" ? oO

  • @jeppe2299 probobly because otto was more or less a nazi-jew

  • @kyrastube He's a Zionist

  • @jmzimmerman1984 hmmm, did not know that word until I looked it up on wiki now. I know zion, but thats mainly because I have a ex thats into rastafari, not anything any teacher ever told me. but yeah, I guess you are right. just goes to show you that all races/countreys have morons that think they are worth more than others

  • gilliam said in the secret life of brian documentary that now he regrets otto didn't make it to the final cut.

    i'm down with that.

  • It must have been cut because the comedy cuts a bit too near the bone, given israels apartheid racism...But a terrific scene.

  • @jalusbrian According to Michael Palin it has been cut because they thought it wasn't funny enough and people did not laugh. Eric wasn't very happy about it but he eventually admitted that it wasn't too good. I think they were all wrong!

  • 0:50

That is the biggest contra-history thing EVER

  • best movie of monti phyton

  • lol dude with a sword in their shoulder, "incurables you'll just have to wait for a minute."

  • fetishistic costume and venturing. I've enjoyed this film @ Movie Watcher. US

  • Sensational! The Spamalot was in on music.

  • I think it was just left out because it was not particularly funny, and dragged on like an Administrave Law lecture.

  • HALE LEADER! haha, I love Eric XD He did that part so well :) Shame they couldn't keep it in the movie. At least it made it to the DVD and it was on the record too :)

  • I feel a bit like Brian, lonely in a world filled with fools of al kinds who have a big mouth and give the orders.

  • @envanje and big noses

  • Hale leader.

Even then there were nazi Germans Hhhh

  • the thing is that they are not german, they are jewish

  • Comment removed

  • It's a funny scene, bit I think it would've felt out of place in the movie.

  • I made a copy of this and edited it right into the film. E-mail me for your free copy!

  • What's the point? They already show the film in theaters with the deleted scenes intact, as "Life Of Brian: The Second Coming"...

  • Damn those Ashke-Nazis.

  • Brilliant, Jewish Nazis. I've met some.

  • Most are in Israel.

  • Actually, it says in 'The Python's Autobiography by the Pythons' that this scene was deleted because it was near the end of the film and therefore slowed the rhythm of the plot.

(Although somebody did complain about it and that's why Pythons re-considered it, but, in the end, that wasn't the reason why they cut it out.)

  • i really like this bit they shudnt of deleted it i think its hilarious but i can see y because there all jews and they are giving nazi salutes so really it is a bit mean but oh well still think its a great scence

  • But it's not offensive! It's Satire!

  • If it was jesus it would be offensive but I dont believe it is because it not jesus its brian. =)

  • @nodysseus

And there's nothing wrong with that....except that it's dangerous!

Otto: "Danger? There is no danger!"

  • @nodysseus Cry me a river.

  • Politically timeliness movie. :D

  • They thought it was too strong for the movie at the time, and getting in the way of the actal plot. With this in it, it would have probably been banned in more countries and states. Great movie though. Love the Pythons!

  • Otto reminds me of Borat :)

  • Borat is supposed to be from Kazakhstan (former Sovjet Union), Otto is supposed to be German, their accents and behaviour are none alike.

  • yeah....now i watch it again I agree with you. I was having a Borat day, i was starting to think my cat had some connection with him :S

  • Assum

  • really funny

  • I saw the movie in '79 and bought the paperback of the film script in 1981. This scene was in both.

  • nazi jews lol

  • Hey! This scene doesn't appear in the film I've seen!!!! Was it censored or something?

  • Either censored or too strange. We will probably never know.

    I like the svastika-star of David :D

  • hahhaa thats so funny

look at the solders helmet, its a star of david converted to look closer to a swastika. lol making a bunch of jews copy nazis.

  • You already heard of skinhead-israelis? They really exist.

  • Suicide squad

  • lol

    hail leader

  • I don't rember this part!

  • These were deleted scenes

  • no, evolooshion - you will see this scen in on the normal DVD

This film was made before this corect policy nonsense, which declares evry joke as unaceptable racist, homopobe or sexist ......

  • isn't there a scene where the nazi jew is talking to brian on the cross if there is can you see it on youtube

  • I always wondered about this short clip at the end. It didn't really make sense without those scenes.

  • since when did Monty Python make sense lol

  • Not to compare Israeli extremists with Nazis , stalinists , Arab fundamentalists or any other extremist nitwits is STUPID!!!!! When will you get it??? The world had enough of them. The best thing Israelis and Palestinians can do is apologize to each other. Then they could try to live in peace and leave us alone. Enough is enough.

  • i remember this movie, long time ago :)

  • priceless

  • "The Meaning of Life" is just as good. I wet myself when I saw it the first time.

  • that was the funniest thing ive ever seen in my life -but also scary " we must cleanse isreal of all foreingers - the palistinian pple have no country of their own for 61 yrs so far and theres an apatied and if they leave they cant return

  • Comment removed

  • well...think i just did a little poo whilst laughing. Is this the funniest film ever made?..it could just be.

  • "oh my cock" LOOOOL

  • Wonderful :D

    Suicide squad finally explained.

  • Too funny. I'm glad I saw this. I love the movie.

  • "We are ready to die for him" takes a whole new meaning.

  • the person who made life of brian needs a medal lol

  • There's more than one.

  • The lot of them deserve a fuckload of medals.

  • A good cut in every sense of the word!

  • oh...my...god! that is HILARIOUS!!!

  • brilliant

  • Dragging on a bit aint it,anyone fancy a pint?

  • I'm glad they cut it. It wouldn't have made the suiside quad scene at the end very funnny. They cut out a far few bits. This was the largest bit as they cut it as it was rather slow and they needed to shorten the time of the film.

  • This is my favourite scene in the movie. Why isn't it in the film?!!

  • love it - he´s like ma granfather ....:)

  • "helmut, johnny... the little guy... the short fat one"

    "oh my cock, sheeps bladders"

why the hell did they cut this out???

  • eric idle is not my favorite python.

    but here he is perfect!

I wonder what the othodox jews in Israel would have said if the pythons would have left the scene in the film^^.

this is a great provocation!really good humor lives from that energy!

  • I can't believe they cut anything out.

  • wow i never saw this part

  • "As a punishment.. you must all eat.. Pork Sausages!"... Rofl!

  • helmat, johnny, the little one, the other fat one.

  • see, I tred on him, heas dead!

  • i have a book with the copy of the original script; i read about this scene, the one about jewish nazis trying to racially purify themselves.

  • I can see why the suicide squad bit was cut--it's just not really that funny, is it?.... especially when compared to other great bits in the movie like biggus, sermon on the mount, liberation front meetings, stoning, etc.

  • hes dead and hes dead haha they should have left it in.

  • i am getting it on bluray. cant wait.

  • This reminds me the ELF and the ALF.

We all want to sleep in peace. I share their concern. But, their puritan urgence of solving the problem is exactly the same way of thinking as their enemies... Can't they see that today, concience is easier to access than finding a personal attitude to overcome these conflicts? Please, don't work for our enemies.

  • Oh my God I just noticed the Star of David-Swastika on Otto's helmet.

  • The leader who will save Israel by ridding it of the scum of non-Jewish people, make it pure! By ridding it of the scum of foreigners and riffraff and gypsies and...

As punishment...you will all eat pork sausages!

Oh my God I love it.

  • Oh my cock.. rofl

  • lol. zionism=faschism

  • Well, not exactly, more like nationalism, which is also not good.

  • The point of the Otto bit is irony. The reason they're Jewish is that this is set in Judea. This has nothing to do with whatever atrocities that the Israelis and Palestinians are committing on each other.

  • Now that we have suicide bombers in Israel, I think this is pertinent.

  • In view of the nature of Israel today, with palestinians rounded up in ghettos

this spoof on a Nazi propaganda film of the 1930s was well ahead of its time..and of course prophetic. Is Life of Brian the Best Film ever made about the silly, nasty, atavistic nonsense that is organised religion?

  • cobinrain, yes, this is the ultimate anti-stupidity film. Love it!

  • hahaha - funny -´but i don´t remember siieng it - obviusly that part was banned from the german version

  • Es gehört zu den entfallenen Szenen, kam also in keiner Version des Films vor (auch nicht im englischen Original).

Diesen Ausschnitt gibt es nur bei der DVD-Version als Extra. ;-)

  • Let's be honest; there are Ashkenazi jews, Sephardic jews, Mizrahi jews, etc., etc. You propose that there is a central Jewish organization, when in fact there isn't even a central Jewish people. And Jews don't own 90% of the media. Sure, the New York times, but Fox News Channel? CNN? And Bush has said on a couple of occassions that he would support the creation of a state of Palestine. Some puppet.

P.S. If you read books like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, it was a forgery. GET OVER IT!!

  • Heil Leader!

  • Koksukay is wrong and very evil.

Geoerg Bush a Jew? I don't think so

  • If you believe that you're just a fucking moron.

  • Sorry, I just came here to watch Life of Brian..

  • i think they should have left this in, i see why they lft it out for continuity's sake tho, but it made me laugh a lot :)

  • just don't let Eric Idle make a naff musical out of it..oh i don't like Spamelot..it's soo python-lite

  • i love it xD

  • LOL OWNED FAG FAGG!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, it's the best ever!

  • comedy can be serious. and let's face it: zionism is racist and ethnocentric.

  • fallout?

  • They should have gone the whole way uncut, seems like they sold the movie short. There was fallout frim the uncut stuff anyway.

  • omm if your soo god damn religeous im sure you have read the bible and it clearly says you are aloud to make fun of religeons and god himself. as long as its not intended to hurt anyone and its not its for a laugh jesus

  • My all time favorite movie. Very very funny, love it.......

  • PORK SAUSAGES!! ROFLMAO!!

  • I love this movie hahaha. Monty Python FTW :):):)

  • I can see why this stuff was dropped, it would have totally killed the pace of the movie, and the suicide squad joke at the end would have been ruined. But on it's own it's hilarious! Plus the fallout from daring to compare zionists to nazis would have been a joy to behold!

  • No, actually it was a censorship problem.

  • Really? After offending most of Chrisingdom I don't imagine they'd have been too worried about upsetting the jews as well. Oh well.

  • I don't recall the details but they had a terrible time. Had to do with Nazis and Zionism. Google it. John Cleese played pilat's wife but they cut that bit as well.

  • John Case, a large British actor, played Pilate's wife, not Cleese.

  • Lolllll at 0:54 clearly being based on the nazis

  • hoho

I couldn,t stop. One of the best comedy ever ever. It is just incredible funny film

  • Jews ... wherever I go

  • Yeah.. If you are looking for Jews, it's not hard to find some..

  • Mr Tyles is right.

  • jews are such bloody hypocrites. they can't see past their own racist religion.

  • Rather said. You're a nazi?

  • You don't have to be a nazi to hate jews, antisemitism has been going on since the whole jew thing started

  • ignore him

  • To be fair, if they are hypocrites (I can't see why) jews haven't had it so easy. Like the Spanish inquisition, the German crusade, the Italian ghettos, the time when Martin Luther called for their execution, the violence that resulted from the publishing of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion (which was a complete hoax), their murder during the Russian Revolution and of course the Holocaust. Even today there is an unusually high hatred of Jews, especially in the middle east.

  • Only coz they kept on shooting people *cough*PALESTINE*cough*

  • Yes, very impressive.

  • lol pre-nazis

  • have You seen the sign on their helmets? ;)

  • ROLF!

  • Rolling On Laughing Floor ?

  • Sure, why not :)

  • HARRIS!

  • Oh and, the marching band music at the end is pretty funny too.

  • Oh come on......it's funny, but a bit too long. I don't think Eric Idle is trying to say anything political. I think it's just the irony that made him do it. And this certainly looks like one of Eric's characters.

The swastika-Star Of David really cracks me up. Genius!

  • It's only funny if you have a bibical education and 20th century history, which is ironic 'cause the film makes fun of people who follow things blindly (religious fundamentalists)....

  • ie. After the damages of the Holocaust, the Zionists go on to try and create their old "pure" homeland.

It's even evident in recent policies. Israel pulled out of the West Bank because if they occupied it, there would be more Palestinians than Israelis.

  • Lemme rephrase that...

If I remember correctly the Prime Minister said this (the Palestinian majority problem) was one of the major reasons two years ago when Israel pulled out. I believe he had either an article or an interview with Time that you can look up....hopefully (after all, it's two years old)

  • ok, I never thought I'd see the day when someone said something both SERIOUS and POLITICAL in response to a friggin MONTY PYTHON video. they make fun of EVERYONE--that's just what they DO. so leave your political controversy for a different page!

  • monty python makes fun of EVERYONE. They didn't set out saying, "Let's make a movie so we can make fun of religious fundamentalists!" It was probably more along the lines of, "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if there was someone who everyone mistook for Jesus?" and went on with that.
