It's a fascinating track, soon as I heard it back in 1990 I loved it. Headphones bring out the layers more, he's cleverly merged a lot of strange sounds to make this...those keyboards & classical Indian singers are the highlight. I'd like to hear more of this type of sound from him.
Looking forward to the Solo album...& don't forget the re-makes greatest hits too.
Is this track made at the same time as Armchair Theatre album ? I like that album very much and I think this track would have been a great last song of that album.
Fascinating -- never heard it before, and I love ARMCHAIR THEATRE. Great to hear Lynne was still doing his dreamy experiments at this time. I want an album of his dreamy experiments! Please, Mr. Lynne . . .
trap0001 that would be perfect for your tombstone. "Here lies Paul who got deadlier dull the more you listened to him. Depressing and uninspiring and a self indulgent twaddle of a man. But we still loved him."
Try listening to Rinse The Raindrops, House Of Wax, Nothing Too Much Out Of Site, Only Mama Knows. Your loss. Anyway I was messing with you, I hope you live a long life. People like you need to exist just for comedy relief alone. I just got a kick out of the twaddle type words. I've been called a tart and all that hilarious UK vocabulary. Carry on straight away best mate, lol. Have a good Holiday and I don't mean vacation. Say hello to all the birds. Now go to a football game have a pint on me.
Jeff ynne is going to a cover of a Paul McCartney song on a Tribute album to Macca which Paul gives Thums Up to. It's coming out in June.

I don´t understand some nasty comments here about this track. This is really fascinating.
Too bad, it wasn´t in the Armchair Theatre album.
I think it would have been a perfect closing track in that.

@FinnMove
Yes, yes it is.

Pretty tune. This track reminds me in some parts When Time Stood Still by ELO.

Yes I agree it does, I love it

This is track is MUCH BETTER than Borderline. Unfortunately Sirens is so unknown to the major audience.

I thought this was a great instrumental, complimented by some great guitar. It's a grower, trust me ;)

This track becomes better the more you listen to it.

I couldn't disagree more. It gets deadlier dull the more you listen to it. Depressing and uninspiring self indulgent twaddle. And I love the man!

Well thanks Ed. then again with all that Paul McCartney tepid shat in your library I wouldn't be flinging those sort of insults about.

Good job. Every time I've dubbed this song the variation in sound levels left me with problems at the upper or lower end of the range.
That is the lovely Julianna Raye you hear at 2:45 if I am not mistaken.

A very strange instrumental. The beginning of this song reminded After All by ELO. This sounds very pleasent.

Me to, and other ELO tracks, like "The Whale" great track all the same

Well you can rely on Jeff for a piece of magic and he's provided it here -"strange magic" - hauntingly brilliant.
