Beginning the rotation before actually jumping off the ice always results in a low jump. If you overbend the knee on takeoff, it just looks bad and never guarantees height. Gus Lussi taught me to jump. He is the person mostly responsible for modern jumping technique and I think this was a beautiful jump.
she barely bends her knees on the entrance of her jumps. maybe thats why she was never a good jumper. no bend of the knees=no spring=no height=bad jumpss
Nothing wrong with using a harness for practice. It's like learning to ride a bike...first you use training wheels, then you take them off and have one of your parents hold the back of your seat while you ride, then eventually you can do it alone.
It's a harness. It goes around your waist and it's like a bungy cord and the coach pulls you up on it. It's used for practicing and making sure you don't fall, and also to ensure air time to complete the rotation.
he obviously pulls the pole up when she jumps. this isnt a legit landed quad. the harness keeps her body straight if shes going to fall on the landing and also gives her more time in the air to make the rotations. this is what alot of skaters use to try a difficult jump without falling. i still like Sasha, but jumps arent her strength
@xoalex914 I'm not even doing single jumps yet as I just started taking classes in January (at 30). Hopefully, I'll be starting single jumps in a year or so.
@seashellsk8er I think it's awesome that she trained it an gave it a try a few times in competition. That took guts. I can't think of any other American woman off hand who attempted quads before Sasha-or since. Anyone know? :)
@faeryquene That is assistant to John Nicks named Matthew Smith, a Canadian Junior Champion, now teaching in La Jolla Ice Chalet. Nikolai is East Coast based. This was from a documentary.
that's a fishpole, it doesnt pull you up, its just a tiny bit safer. many women who do quads and triple axels use it unless they are iin competition, its not much more of an aid than hip pads. its helps a bit with alignement, i suppose. but, for example, kimmie only did her 3A in the fishpole when she had a competition coming up
the pole gives the skater a little more time and height in the air to sucessfully complete the desired rotations and it is also a tool to prevent a hard fall.

@wluu1
how does a skater get any height on a jump then if they don't bend there knees on the take off?!
chapstickgurl1 2 months ago
but the harness actually really helps a lot, I am able to land my triple Axel easily by using it.
airkid 4 months ago
The harness is an assist. It doesn't do the jump for you. It's more for confidence and protection than anything.

that was the way that I did my triple jumps, it helps you a lot!!

what is that thing her coach or who ever has on her??? it looks like some kind of a rope...????
yomama1234abcd 2 years ago
@yomama1234abcd:
its a harness. the skater is connected to it making it easier for the coach to lift her to complete the four rotations.

I remember Debi Thomas and her coach using a similar harness while training her triple-triples. :)

I7emon 2 years ago 10
doesnt really count as a 'landed quad' with the fishpole assist and just to clarify, it does give you a little more hang time in the air. Sorry guys.

she`s done one without the pole actually...make sure you know the facts before you comment. ;P
