11th second of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year, what a day! once in a hundred years, imagine that :) we are lucky to live through this.. xx
RIP to every single person who gave their life to the terrible war, brave and amazing! :')
too many, too often, too many times.in truth man lives by the feud...and once again i hear the marching of young men.all for the turn of a coin and profit for these men with there pens.
I lost my Great Uncle in this war. He died in later 1917 - having only been born in early 1900 (one of the youngest to die in action). Not much of a "life" for him was it?He was one of the "lucky" ones who was found - there still remain 10s of thousands who still lie "alone" - lost or blown to bits.
I have heard this song sung by numerous cover artists. They almost always change some of the lyrics, but why I don't know. This is the original and it should be treated as sacred. It's the best by far, by miles. Changing it always messes up some of the emotion and the message.
I love this song! This said, I dare to mention that in this version I hear the words 'glorious falling'. There is nothing glorious on either side. They were all 'butchered and slain'.
@ArtLRgt5 ...when you joined the 'glorious fallen' in 1916...The words are sympathetically sarcastic. The soldiers were sold the big lie of the 'Glory of War'. Then they were butchered and damned.
Why are there wars? Why can't people just live in a peaceful world? Why can't we just say "no more killing! Let's all go home"?
Yes I am a pacifist and proud of the fact. Too many people have died. That means so much people mourning. Why are there people fighting in Afghanistan? Please enlighten me. The Taliban did nothing to us. It was al-Qaeda that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks.
@TheGamersEnjoyment "Yes I am a pacifist and proud of the fact. ..,. The Taliban did nothing to us. It was al-Qaeda that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks."
That works if the other guy is also a pacifist, but what if he isn't? At some point one has to fight as the Brits found in 1939 after years of appeasement. The Taliban aided and abetted Al Qaeda so needed to be attacked.
true, both sides lost , they where followeing orders, from poeple safe behind the lines, so sad, and we have not learnt anything, the same learders sending men and women to there death, and for what???
Yes, Guenter...again and again. Will we never learn? Lest you think I'm some daft liberal, I served more than 20 years in the U.S. military. In all of that time, I believe that my service helped to avoid a repeat of the lunacy of 1914 and 1939. Have we learned? Oh dear gods, I hop so.
I'm afraid you,(and your comrades and supposed 'enemies'), made the same mistake every soldier has made since the dawn of 'Civilization". Believing that killing and serving the Satanic Military Machine,(I know you didn't know/ believe this WAS YOUR MASTER,But IT WAS), you could prevent a worser tragedy. YOU CAN'T! This IS the worst tragedy;to believe this and then take up arms to fail to prove it, but the opposite instead. Listen to Donovan's "Universal Soldier" to get a true dose of reality!
good and sad song

No-one dislikes this song. This goes to prove that Eric Bogle is troll-proof.

@absoftitanium It is the best version because it is the original!

@absoftitanium I mostly agree, although I do like Bob Seger's No Man's Land. But I see them as two different songs with the same name.

@TheGamersEnjoyment Because war, like racism and hatred is innate. It's what makes us who we are.

Happy Armistice/Veterans Day. Say a quick prayer of thanks and beg God that we do not suffer the same fate.

Does it matter what graves you see here? Each grave is a grave too much!
