OMG - they are so cool. I thought all they did was the "who cooks for you all" sound. I just heard them in the woods for the first time making that squeeking sound - I thought it was a different animal. It was very loud and sounded almost like a cat/dog.

They make lots of different sounds.
They start making noise before they hatch.
They visited Thursday night and sang a hoot I call, 'this is my territory' It is a low repetitive hoot.
My first encounter, about 16 years ago, It said a single 'who' elongated into a whooooooooooo. We call it the inquisitive who.

These videos were shot with night vision cameras, at night. The owls don't sleep all day, it's more like cat napping.
