@UnknownGamerX Gary Gygax was 1/2 of the team that first came up with pen & paper roll playing game systems using multi-sided dice. He is considered the father of Dungeons & Dragons and just really had an incredible mind when it came to adventuring. He has been involved in D&D and its myriad of revisions throughout the years including Dungeons & Dragons Online.
I had the honor of being in an impromtu game with Gary in Origins 84 in Dallas...*sigh*....One one the funniest and best people you'd ever want to meet.
In the span of a year, we have lost both Mr. Gygax and Mr. Arneson...the two greatest minds in RPG history. I play many MMORPGs, and on EverQuest 1 yesterday, got flagged for Convorteum. Without Gary and David, Convorteum simply wouldn't exist. Same with many of the endgame places like ICC in WoW, Ancient Port Warehouse and Pantheon of the Ancients in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and on and on. I took up D&D at age 11.
RIP Mr Gygax. May you find peace along with your old friend Mr Arenson who joined you earlier this year. I am sure the both of you can now sit down with a mug of ale, put past your old disagreements and talk about the good memories.
R.I.P. Gary, its funny, I never knew how fun life was until I got ahold of a d&d book, and I thank you for the game, because finally i fit in with someone at school, and finally i have something to do in my spare time
Gary Gygax, R.I.P. Your imagination has inspired every gamer across the face of the planet, and as such, you will be missed as long as there are people to miss you. If I could, I would erect a statue in Gary Gygax's honor, and make sure that it would never be torn down. However, all I can do is leave comments, and think of what he's down for all of us. Remembering, though, is the greatest gift we can give Gary, and so, I'd like to ask that everyone simply remembers Gary Gygax.
Everytime, I watch this video and I always get choked up. Beautiful song. I joined DDO and the Sarlona server specifically because of this video. Savior of the Realms forever.
Awesome video! I am so Proud to be apart of the sarlona server and have been present for the procession we have a permenant statue up in the graveyard in honor of Gary gygax and i hope you all take the time to check it out.
i never really fit in in school but i always looked forward to going to my friend joshes basement every Friday night to play dnd and i'll never forget the day he died R.I.P mr gygax you shall be missed <3
Just listen to the beginning of the song and then think about when you were a kid rolling your dice with your friends. But think of it in slow motion. So if you rolled a perfect twenty picture you and your friends jumping up and down for joy in slow-mo.
Good for Sarlona! Nobody on my server knew until I put the RIP up as an LFG message. Wish I would've had the presence of mind to try to organize something awesome like this. Thanks for posting it. =)
With the 20th century came what is, perhaps, an unprecedented advancement of human technology and civilization. With it have come and, lately, gone, many great visionary minds. Gary was one such man, an individual who reminded us to not let go of our creativity, imagination, and unity, in the face of the modern way of life. RIP, Gary Gygax, you've left the world a better place than it was when you entered. Thank you, so much.
Thank you very much Mr. Gygax for creating D & D. I remember playing when I was in grade school and of course, I now play World of Warcraft. I want to thank you for taking that world of fantasy and putting it into tangibles terms that allow us to explore, discover, and reawaken our imagination..
God bless you and I hope that you roll natural 20s in heaven.
i only found out today i cried for about 10 minutes for past two weeks i felt something was wrong i thought it was because i missed the amazing time i had when i was sking but was mr gary gygax everybody say prayer for this man and always memorise him never forget he will live on trough are games and imagination
omg i cried so much watching this...if it wasnt for dungeons and dragons and DDO i would have never met my love and nobody would have been able to enjoy his wonderful game of complex wonderfullnes..you know i feel bad laughing at the deleras tomb narration..he was still involved to the very end and i feel so bad i laughed at his voice..anyways great video awesome turnout of people i wonder if the others servers did this too..i havent played in about 6 months ty for this video this was news 2 me
Thanks for this! Gary Gygax will always have a legend, do not let the legacy die. I hope for all to support this tribute site I found on google. GygaxGamers C0M, sign up and show your respect for a great man. Let the devolopment live on!
A beautiful video, and extra thanks to all who participated. This old gamer wishes that he could have been there with his best too. Without him, the worlds of our imaginations might have never reached as far as they did.
Goodbye, Gary. The Brotherhood of the Gray owes its existence to you.
Dammit. And here I lose another role model, another guy whose influence has helped shape me into a better man =/ First Steve Irwin, then grandpa, and now Gary Gygax. I went from confusion, to shock, to sadness, to shedding a tear(which I don't do often), and finally to acceptance. Had to happen sometime. He was old. At least he lived to see his creation flourish. R.I.P. Father of All DM's. =::(
Gary has added many memorable and blessed years to my youth, and has inspired me to create many modules on paper, and for Neverwinter Nights. The final scene of this video is very moving. It is very creative how all the characters of the viseo gather at the gravesite for the funeral mass. Also I am a great fan of Loreena McKennit.
Gary, may the Mace of Cuthbert light your way to Eternal Peace.
Princessfairee, that is so utterly sweet. It actually made this forty year old man who very rarely weeps....weep. I'm one of the D&D old timers and was truly and unexpectedly saddened by Gary's passing. Adonai baruch at b'shem Yeshua HaMaschiach.
It is with great sadness that I remember, and with great sadness that I lay my head against my pillow this eve. My daughter will know the joys that this great man has given us, but will never know of the man himself.
As has been said by others, he is now creating real worlds in heaven with God. May he forever be rolling in his grave...
That was beautiful. You have a great gift for expressing yourself through words. I have never played Dungeons and Dragons myself, but all the emotion and love people direct to this Gary Gyax inspires me.
There is no graph paper map for where he is now, but the man will never be forgotten. He is responsible for many of the characters I have played in my youth, and many of the characters I play today.

Gary Gygax will be missed and is a legend among old time RPG fans, but there has been no talk of Dave Arnesons' contributions to the genre.
As he never left TSR until 1985, and created the first concept of the pen and paper rules (a.k.a Blackmoor), I believe he too is worthy of a mention.
Hats off to both Gygax and Arneson!
