This guy just advocated Westboro Baptists as better Christians than most Americans.
The most important question is not 'who is Jesus?' It's 'what am I going to do today to better myself and contribute to the lives of those around me?'
@TheHigherVoltage : Im sorry but his sermon is right, Who is Jesus questions yourself in who is He to you, your question is leading to "self", of what "I" can do for them instead of what "JESUS" can do for them through me..i hope you think about it..yours is dangerously leading to "self glory"..instead of God's glory, then again, i may have misinterpret your question..
@garymymedic Jesus is a mythical figure, possibly based on a real person.
Claiming I'm in danger of your God is no different than someone else claiming you're in danger of their God. Made up Gods are made up. And biblegod is verifiably made up. One honest read through of the bible and honest contemplation verifies this.
No real God requires glory, only false ones.
There's the real possibility of REAL God(s). If that's the case, I'm not the one who is in danger.
@TheHigherVoltage ...lol, mythical...Luke 3:23-28 and Matthew 1:1-17 gives a genealogy tracing back to Christ. All real people in history which of course you won't hear about in school systems. U've obviously, "honestly" read the bible in it's entirety and have given it "honest" contemplation so I would like to learn how u've verified that God is made up. Also, please help me understand what the definition of a "real God" is and who exactly is in danger if he/they exist.
@27AlexN You cite two irreconcilably conflicting genealogies, that both list Joseph as Jesus biological father, as evidence of the bible's validity? Are you serious?!
Read the bible cover to cover. Give it some honest thought while you're reading it. If you still think biblegod is real, I'll gladly teach you why he's verifiably not.
Real God(s) are God(s) that may actually exist.
The dangeris that if any real God(s) exist, and if they have a sense of justice, godcultists are fucked.
@TheHigherVoltage "irreconciliable"?? You do realize that this supposed controversy has been answered for almost 2000 years now? Before you make any claims about "errors" in the Bible, make sure they haven't already been answered. (hint: read Deuteronomy if you want to understand how the genealogies do not contradict each other)
@TheHigherVoltage If you were truly interested in understand the Bible, you would have wanted to see how Deuteronomy explains the genealogy of Jesus. SInce you didn't, but instead grabbed another "contradiction" (again, already answered), you demonstrate your lack of desire to understand. So, I will leave you with the good person test: Would you consider yourself to be a good person?
@TheHigherVoltage I gave you my reason for not including the verse with my initial statement (pt2). Are you saying you have not done a study on your own but are simply parroting what you have heard from others about the Bible? If that is the case, no problem giving you the passage. If you have studied on your own, then this is a no-brainer.
@TheHigherVoltage By again asking for the passage, I will operate under the assumption your knowledge of the Bible is not based upon your own careful study, but by what you have others say/write about it. Therefore I will provide the passage; Deut 25:5-10 provides an explanation on how 2 genealogies for Jesus could have apparent contradictions with different people. A man was required to raise up seed for his dead brother's widow. Therefore, either name as the father could be accurate.
@staum607 I wouldn't dispute that stepfathers might be listed in ancient genealogies - it's possible that 'genealogy' did not mean, 'genealogy' 2000 years ago.
However, it does not explain these discrepancies or any others. The writers are suppose to be chosen by a God to spread this stuff. They're both suppose to have a super-version of the Holy Spirit in them, performing all kinds of miracles according to Jesus's promises. Yet they don't get the same info?
@TheHigherVoltage have you ever watched two different news agencies (or even reporters) report on the exact same story? Depending on what part they emphasize (for any number of reasons) their stories could appear to contradict each other. If God wanted all 4 Gospel writers to write the exact same thing, He wouldn't have needed 4, only 1!
@staum607 News agencies don't claim to have a God as their editor.
"their stories could appear to contradict each other. "
They don't just appear.
Pick a gospel and tell me, who went to Jesus' tomb, and what did they find?
And consider this : do you remember where you were and who told you about 9/11? I do. VIVIDLY. The shock engrained the memory for me. As it did for virtually everyone I know. Yet these guys can't recall it with accuracy? Even with a God in their brain?
Riddle me this: One person says, "A car flipped over in a crash." Another person says, "there was an 18 car pile up". Which one is lying, or forgetting details? Is one of them being inaccurate?

@staum607 " I will operate under the assumption your knowledge of the Bible is not based upon your own careful study"
You're partially right - my knowledge also includes other people's studies, interpretations and apologetics. Knowing something from only one perspective only serves delusions. :/
@TheHigherVoltage pt2 Since you present yourself as a Bible scholar who has found (I assume on your own, that you haven't been told about them) all these contradictions in the Bible, I figured you would easily find the answer to your problem in Deut. However, if that is not the case, I will gladly give you the passage (not a single verse taken out of context)

@staum607 "hint: read Deuteronomy if you want to understand how the genealogies do not contradict each other"
What does Deuteronomy have to do with the number of generations not being the same or the names being the same? Cite verse.
"Before you make any claims about "errors" in the Bible, make sure they haven't already been answered. "
Irreconcilable contradictions are not answered by apologetics, they are avoided with bullshit.
Pick a gospel and tell me, with verse, who went to the tomb?

Why are you pretending I did not ask you to clarify your claim with evidence?

@staum607 "I gave you my reason for not including the verse with my initial statement (pt2)"
And I asked again for it.
I've read the bible, as a believer for 19 years and as a non-believer a few times since.
"no problem giving you the passage."
Please provide it then. I know you do have a problem giving me the passage.
