Very cool tortoise and enclosure. I just picked mine up yesterday will be posting some videos soon. Some people spend way too much time on You Tube. LOL!

Sad to see, you should have learnt about tortoise care before getting a tortoise. You cannot repair the damage done by his metabolic disorder, but you can stop it getting worse - First make sure your bulb is producing enough UVB, they stop producing it long before they burn out completely. If you can't afford a UVB meter you need to change it every six months. Second, he should be fed primarily on broad leaved weeds, avoid fruits altogether, and sprinkle a calcium supplement on his food.

@itsme8719 i have a book on russian tortoises, ive had him for 4 years i know how to take care of him. i do not feed him apples regularly, sometimes i give him apple skins, but thats it. i made this 2 years ago, im in high school now, i have sports and grades to keep up with. im not 12 anymore

Hi, I was wondering if a tortoise enclosure (during the time when the tortoise isn't hibernating but it can't go outside) needed a top it it like a fish tank or not. Because lately I have had trouble thinking of the best way to have my enclosure, whether to have a top to it or not.

i dont know why but it looks like your tortoise has some shell deformations he doesnt look like the normal russian tortoise and his jaw structure is different too but he looks healthy
Now when it's summer, I say feed him a lot of weeds they are good for totoises, low protein per centage and good on fibres. I usually give my turtoises fruits as treats occasionally something you do as well from what I heard in the video.
Also if your tortoise doesn't hibernate, getting a lot of seeds from various weeds ( you can look the plants up they are mentioned pretty much on every foods list) then you'll have fresh weeds for your buddy during winter :D Anyway awesome buddie you got!
Hey Lil Dude, I had my female russian get out of a pen higher then that.. good thing she didn't get hurt... you may want to get some plexi-glass about 12 inches high the length of the enclosure and secure it to it... Other then that, it looks good,it seems you did your research too on the care,,good luck..

I do not yet own one, so these are more questions, and shared reading.

You shouldn't feed him anymore apples although im sure he likes them. If you go to the grocery store and buy some dandelion greens, or endive, or escrole and sprinkle a little calcium powder (found at pets shops/stores) on it. That will be good for his shell and they love those types of greens. Hi! You've got a great tortoise there! That curving shell in the back may mean that 'he' is actually a 'she'! A more definite way to tell is to check the tail length. A short tail? Then you have a female. The repti-bark should be fine. Good luck and keep up the good work!

I was under the impression the sides of the 'cage' had to be 8-12" your walls look 4-6"?
