As a US parent, I cannot find words to talk to my kids about this incident. Not sure if you Asian parents ever talk to your kids. I know parents are too busy in Asia.

My impression on HK, besides movies, is - just a junk concrete jungle. This junkyard was started long time ago under the British. (I love taking pics of leaking pipes in Soy Street). In fact, it was a British writer who described HK 'a living hell'. Only HK Chinese have been self-admiring for decades, to a century. When the lease was over, suddenly, HK Chinese realize what they have is just a concrete junkyard. Long before China took over, white tourists stopped coming. It is not China's fault.

To live in this concrete junkyard, HK people (not dogs) should minimize evil feeling or unproductive hatred, as the fundamental to survive in this jungle is harmony. Every person in the the city is a 'bolt /nut' of a society. Any defective nut can affect flow of the society. From this recent incident, it is clear HK society is very vulnerable. People react to hate very fast like epidemic. A concerted drama in subway can disrupt social harmony for weeks/months, aftermath of which regenerated.

大部份香港人祖父輩都是中國人,為什麼要到帶有恥辱的地方暫住,原因不外乎,逃避戰亂,饑荒等等,但戰爭過後,和平降臨,何解人口不跌反升,還冒死離開偉大的祖國湧入香港,至今不絕,但願死者安息,建國前香港跟中國基本一檥,建國後有點不同,躍進時已經不同,文化期絕不認同,開放中略有不同,事件後不敢苟同,收回後還是不同,香港總是與別不同,獨中國氣質不變,愈想除去香港的價值,愈不順利,難怪人家生氣,空有血源,沒有血性,見利忘義,人格盡失,路人皆見,香港人愈了解中國,人心愈是不歸,文字簡化,行為簡化,思想簡化,連生命也可簡化,還想統一言語,此等中華名存實亡,人貴自知,教授之言,又何足掛齒。

Everytime I crossed borders between China to HK or Macau, I felt sick at the stomach that I had to do it twice. HK & Macau still have their immigration What insult.
Yet, HK dogs, yes dogs, (after seeing how they treat small kid in train), are not satisfied. Beijing is still honoring their promise to keep 2 systems. I say Beijing should just scrap the dual immigration checkpoint to save resources and wake HK dogs up.
HK had lost its potentials for decades. With China HK gets a breather.

As a US parent, I cannot find words to talk to my kids about this incident. Not sure if you Asian parents ever talk to your kids. I know parents are too busy in Asia.

They have been calling the Tibetans and Uyghurs barbarians for the past 60 years. You can’t begin to imagine what it is like being Uyghur bossed around by people who are 10 times worse than this guy. 我本身是一个北京人。我爱所有的中国人，但同时也为大量新移民来京，使得这个城市变得拥挤而资源紧缺而新生抱怨。但我没有理由，更没有权利去赶他们走，因为他们跟我一样，都是中国人，和我一样有权利在自己的国土上自由行动。如果有一天，我终于忍不了这个城市的环境，该从北京滚蛋的是我，而不是他们，因为北京并不是我一个人的，而是属于受得了它的全中国人的。希望香港人能好好体会一下这种应有的心态。（以上言论并无支持孔教授言论的意思，仅是就此话题表达观点）

@cheersful 你说的我也想过，而这也正就是我所说的去特殊化应该做的一部分。具体形式待定，但税制应该全国统一。全国各个地方的财政都包括国税拨款和地税，而地税的最直接来源，就是当地纳税人的贡献。但全中国各地的医院，高等院校，只要你是中国人，并不会做任何限制，这又如何讲？我之前也说过了，很多北京人都在抱怨外来人口过多，使得北京市的居住环境越来越差，但抱怨归抱怨，该忍还得忍，因为北京并不是一个主权国家，而是中国这样一个主权国家的普通城市，凡是中国人，都有权利自由地来，自由地去，自由地享受当地政府提供的合法福利。作为北京人，北京人口越来越多，社会资源被占用，我也一直在抱怨，但我时刻都明白，同是中国人，我没有赶人家走的权利。而如果这个城市因此而变得环境更差，新移民忍得了，我忍不了了，那也该我滚蛋。谁让我忍不了，别人忍得了呢。希望你能有更清楚地权利义务概念，并更深刻地体会自由的意义。

至于诸如孕妇资源，大学资源之类的争论，逻辑则更为清晰。而这一逻辑，还是用一个简单的类比最容易表达：全中国的病人都去北京的几大医院挤着看病，使得北京人很难在这些医院挂到号；而全中国的最优秀的学生都往中国最好的几个大学挤，使得这几个大学招的当地学生比例通常很小…这些事情，都只不过反映了中国作为一个发展中国家，地区发展极不平衡的特性。香港vs“内地”，在意识形态层面，本就就不应该“发达国家vs发展中国家”的模式，而应该像“北京or上海vs中国平均水平”一样，是一种“发展中国家的发达城市vs它所在的发展中国家”的模式。对于之前所说的这些情况，北京人也抱怨很多，但如果有个别北京人说出类似“外地人占用我们的医疗资源，教育资源”之类的言论，想都别想，结果肯定是招来全国人民的指责。而事实上，北京人也只有无奈地抱怨一下的份儿，而绝不会有“我的权利受到了侵犯”的意识形态。至于如何使香港/香港人在意识形态层面尽快去“特权”化，我并没有细节的计划，也不是讨论的主旨。如果非说有什么，或许尽快废除通行证制度是当务之急。

在我看来港府早就成了tg的bitch了，中国的民主未来估计也就只能指望台湾了。在这种情况下，解决类似问题的办法其实简单且只有一个：香港尽快去“特权”化。这里的“特权”指的并不是“特区”的行政模式，而更多的强调的是香港作为中国一个普普通通的大城市而应有的地位。当人们一次又一次用诸如“香港vs内地/大陆”之类的词去理智气壮地表达观点的时候，观点本身已经错了：“香港”和所谓“内地”根本就不能构成任何平等的对比关系，而“内地”这个词汇，也早就失去了它存在的意义，从而变得和北京人、上海人，动辄就说“外地”如何如何一样令人反感，从而需要从脑子里彻底摒弃。举个最简单的例子，中国的首都，北京，当有北京人用类似“北京vs外地”表达意思的时候，甭管他表达的是什么，他已经错了。另外一个看似正面，但很反应香港人心态的说法是：“我是香港人，也是中国人”，特别是这句话里面的“也”字。一个北京人，即使身处一个事实上发达程度和文明程度远超中国其余地方平均水平的城市，意识形态里也大体不会把“北京人”的标签放在“中国人”的前面。

Singaporeans are generally fine and quite soft spoken but if those kind of attitude were shown here (or in the insulting comment you had replied to me) I don't think you would receive very great hospitality as well. Uneducated professor! I deeply feel sorry for the future generation in mainland because he certainly display the level of education the mainlander can afford, which is very "little". As a Chinese, not everyone are obligated to speak mandarin. Most of the population in the world are speaking English, so future language for Chinese should be English. Language is part of the culture and being Hong Kongnese, we are proud to speak Cantonese but the best part is, we learn how to adopt....
