We had a hamster that escaped all the time, same type of cage.I can remember sitting up at night waiting for him to reappear from under the floor boards one night could'nt find him anywhere and thought the dog must have got him until I went to feed the rabbit and found him fast asleep in the rabbits food,dont know how he got downstairs.In the end had to tape down all escape exits

I've kept hamsters over the years & only one of mine figured out how to do this. At night he'd open his cage door, run about the house for an hour & then come scratching at my bedroom door asking to go back in his cage. We tried to stop him by twisting some chicken wire around the door & bars at night & he figured out how to untwist the wire & pull it off. It took him all of 2 nights to figure that one out.

The rest of mine couldn't figure out that you should run INSIDE the wheel, not outside.

my hamster ALWAYS opened the door in his cage so we had to tie it shut and tape it and then he chewed through all of the string and tape and so we tied it with black plastic draw string type thing on one side and he opened it up on the other and squeezed out! i was so happy my puppy didnt get him!

i had a hamster just like this, he was called Hudini ...i bought in his 4 year life time like 7 differant hamster cages cause he kept learning how to escape! We lost him so many times, but we always found him again lol. If we left the cage door open we would find him the next day tucked up in bed!

Well mine is also a escape artist! we put a book on those holes she chewed a tunnel trough it! ten we figure out we put round doorhandles in those holes on the top of the cage.. well until now that was a big succes :P

Firstly plastic is stupid and they get too hot in the summer, and also, he must be used to getting out or he is very bored and he does this loads of times because hamsters only do that if they do, he isn't smart he just knows that he can get out and you must have done something to him to make him want 2 get out!!!!!
