  • I listen to j-pop everyday and watch a ton of japanese anime/drama/movies but it doesn't seem like my Japanese improves very much.

Also what are you talking about? Battle Royal is a master piece! I loved it!

  • Requiem for the Phantom is an amazing series. It's good 'beginner' anime too :P

  • u cool dude

    great

  • yogpod

  • You are wonderful!!! Been here for about 1 year, but I definitely think I'm still at that chuugakusei level! ^^;; Thank you for sharing your tips!!! <3

  • @american2peace how is japan for you? do u like it

  • Manga is cool and there traditional music is great.Check out ''Sakura-japanese folk music''..Sakura means cherry blossom.I never knew that ...:)

  • Dude. Battle Royale is by Kinji Fukasaku NOT Takeshi Kitano. I'll admit Brother wasn't great but Boiling Point, Sonatine and Hana-bi are amazing.

  • I actually have a better chance for learning Chinese as we have a Chinese channel but I would like it if we had a Japanese!

  • CafeWorld is truly easy if you learn the appropriate build order, and the correct way to make coins quickly. If you want to understand or know how I did it, go go through the totally free guidebook at beatcafeworldXcom (replace X with . )

  • it's so funny to hear you speaking japanese words in your english sentences!!!! :D haha.. but it sounds good!!! So...take it as a compliment :)

  • ...good english podcast...hmmm, "the instance" comes to mind even if you dont like warcraft they reference so many things you forget that its supposed to be about the game...the hosts seam to be about your age group *im judging by pictures and their grammar*

  • how many years did it took you?

  • You can't learn by watching anime. The pronounciation is exaggerated. If you talk like that people will think you're crazy. Plus the word order isn't the same it's subject, object, then verb. The best way is just to get some good books and teach yourself.

  • @XxXMrsVengeanceXxX yeah cuz thats the same thing as talking like tv does. If i were to go to my friends after seeing a dramatic thingy i prolly wouldnt say " may i offer you a cup of tea on this delightful evening" id prolly come off as a creep lol id prolly say "You wanna drink?" i think its kinda the same for japanese

  • i would love to learn japanese , is it a hard language ?

  • YO! That's DOUBLE(Takako) in the background! I learned Japanese by listening to her music. I've got all her music, and yea, it's sorta feminine, but I learnt her music because it's interesting.

  • Here are some dramas...

    Gokusen (3 seasons)

    Zettai Kareshi

    Nodame Cantabile

All of these are based on manga series and are hilarious!

Although Zettai Kareshi is a little more on the romantic side, it's still pretty good.

  • I like movie caled "vibrator"

    unusual story but nice movie.

  • Wow man you can talk, I'm stoned & it was like you had discussions filed and ready to pull out, haha kept me fascinated though 10/10 cheers

  • Death Note is a really good anime. Don't hesitate to check it out because of its title. I highly recommend it.

  • Seven Samurai is very good, also a movie called Hatochi

  • holy crap your english is good! =D great job!

  • BORING! nah im jk pretty interesting in fact

  • yeah your t-shirt rocks!!! "no kangaroos in AUSTRIA" sooooo true :D

  • HIHI! Hikosaemon どうぞ よろしく

    ども ありがとう ございます。。。^^

  • Hey man, no worries - glad to be of any help at all!

    Peace

  • I know Samurai Fiction... it's great =D

  • I LOVE that movie ;)

    Peace

  • Awesome to find another fan of Supercar. Thanks for the movie recommendations, I'll have to watch those soon.

  • No worries - let me know if you find anything good yourself!

    Peace

  • Hikosaemon,

I have been *trying* to study Japanese for awhile now, and it is only more recently that I have had some success. I've really cracked down and started learning some of the hiragana (and by mistake katakana, which I was told was basically a waste of time for me right now). Anyway I think that the excersize of learning music works great! Ive done it with Nagareboshi - Home Made Kazoku and it was tons of fun. Thanks for posting your vids, I look forward to seeing more!!

  • cool...I need to listen to more Japanese music!

I'm a beginner, but I'm sure listening to anything will be helpful :)

  • Kevin, mate - I sang Japanese before I could hold a 2 minute conversation. What I do to find new good music is to go and watch "countdown tv" and don't just watch the top 20 show, but go for the top 100, with a notepad. It will only show short clips of most songs but you can get an idea of what you want to listen to more of. And a lot of the best music is in the 70-100 position - these tend to be good indies bands, as opposed to jpop groups that music companies make sure take up the top 50.

  • Awesome! I'll take your advice :) Indie music is usually the way to go no matter where you are in the world!

  • Thinking of Korea... Vassline, Shorty Cat, and GUMX have all played in Japan. In Kobe you've got Star Club, Varit, and Art House, just to name a few live houses. What Hiko said about the 70 to 100 range is very true and a good way to start. All you need is to find one band you like to start, and as you follow them you start seeing other bands you like. Snowball effect.

  • Does this countdown tv list their top 100 online somewhere? I'd like to see it. Today I spent a while looking on iTunes Japan. It's pretty bad. A LOT of bands only put up singles. Where are the indie types? That's what I am after as well...

  • Yeah, music in Japan has long been organized around singles rather than albums.

ANYways, I googled for "Count down tv" on Japanese Google just now, clicked the first link at the top for TBS's page, and there was a button at the top for This Week's 100. Other music networks where I could find the top 100 rankings are Music On and SpaceshowerTV. HTH.

Oh, and Bleach (channel bleach03rocks) are hitting Nagoya tomorrow with Electric Eel Shock (bobslayer). Definite must-see if you like it loud.

  • nice video i dont think you have anywhere near enough subcribers, you deserve alot more and your videos are more informative and interesting than alot ive seen

  • Haha, that's very nice of you, but 900 is plenty! I'm constantly freaked out by the number of people I know watch these. Comments like yours are what keep me going though, so thanks for the support!

    Peace

  • Yes, Supercar! Good stuff.

Funny, I'm in much the same boat. Not too crazy about anime or manga unless I know a band that did the music. Am curious to see DMC mostly because the guitar, drum, and bass in Kintama Girls are in a few bands I follow.

Beat Takeshi is not a name. It's a command.

Noticed that you mentioned Shall We Dance so I know I can trust your movie recommendations.

踊る大捜査線 is also good for rentals. Fewer of the ultra-pregnant dramatic pauses you get in many dramas.

  • "Beat Takeshi is not a name. It's a command."

    Best. Comment. Ever.

  • :-)

  • I second the "classic!" response to Beat Takeshi. I'm gonna use that one...

Before it got covered, I used to like recommending Shall We Dance to people overseas because it is in most video shops, and it encapsulates the non-judgmental amorality you get a lot of in Japan. I like the fact that unlike a nice clean cut good guys and bad guys movie, the central figure is a sukebe oyaji, but the movie doesn't try to turn it into a morality tale. Simple, but real - a rare thing in movies

    Peace

  • Just FYI, mate, I found some Japanese PODcast info which I have posted into the sidebar info - I will check these out and of course let you know if I discover podcasts that I can recommend personally.

    Peace

  • Whoah, there's lots there! I will start checking them out! abrigado!

  • Thanks! Great response! I will take it to heart.

    And nice shirt!

    :-)

  • Haha, another sign of YouTube addiction is when you start buying shirts that you would never buy before, but now look at and think "this would look so cool on a video..."

Glad you liked it mate. Sorry I couldn't be of more direct help on podcast info, but I'll let you know as I learn.

    Cheers!

    Peace
