  • Wow...this made me cry. SO beautiful.

  • Never, has a tribute made me feel like this before...smiling feeling sad, misty eyes, such as this! Love you Mr.Levi, you are by far THE MOST talented well respected, man I have ever known! I still have the signed album, that day in 1970 the 1st time I saw you and your (brothers) perform,I was 10 and told you I was in love with you,you smiled ,kissed my hand, and thanked me...I thank you for being what you were,...Rest in Peace..my beloved friend...

  • THERE WAS ONLY ONE LEVI STUBBS R.I.P.

  • I respect the artist who said, "There is NO Levi Stubbs WITHOUT The Four Tops. He said that The Four Tops were like his brothers and he'd NEVER ever think of a solo career that didn't include them. "NOW, THAT REAL LOVE FOR YOU." A TRUE Four Tops to the very end of this life. More people should be so loyal.

  • This is the first time I've seen this and tears came to my eye's and I'm a grown as 54 year old man. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @shadesmagazine me too.

  • I felt so sad to see such a great singer in that terrible shape,I still remember the 25th anniversary show from Motown when the Four Tops and the Temptations performed their best known hits for a very enthusiastic audience, rest in peace Levi, your music legacy will live forever.

  • can anyone tell me from what concert was this?

  • @vladutze84 : It's from the 50th Anniversary Special...available on DVD ....great one btw.

  • magic!

  • wheeew almost started bawlin all over the place,

  • Well, Well Well...One of Motown's greats. Words can express the feelings, emotions and memories. Still waters run very deep....

  • Thank you so much for posting this. It made me cry and laugh. Levi 's determination to sing is remarkable. RIP.

  • Just as they retire jerseys of sports figures - some songs are signatures. No One should be allowed to do this. Levi Stubbs shut it ALL down and everyone out when he did this. This is his song! If your special person tries to leave you -- put this on if they keep walking let them go!

  • I wonder who is so tough that tears dont fall from their eyes after seeing this!

  • ****

  • Tears for a great man

  • I am sitting her ecrying like a baby, this was so touching and so heartbreaking, but HE STILL has that voice that can sing like no one else can.Mr.Stubbs, I know you are resting in peace, right there along with my Mom.Your music will live on forever.Thank you for showing this wonderful video, it's now in my favorites.

  • what a PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i lost my baby the same day he died. this made me cry. god bless you mr. stubbs. you were a true class act.

  • "Levi's voice is a miracle."

  • Even though these seem sad times,he knows that the LORD is sitting there on his shoulders, ready to guide him to his final resting place as we look at a MASTER doing his work which will always stay with those that have SOUL in their HEART.

    SLEEP WELL TP

    FROM UK

  • I can't add anything that the rest of you haven't said. When the Four Tops were

big back in the 60's, most of us never knew the name of the lead singer . . we just knew "the Four Tops". Only later did I become aware of this amazing talent and amazing man. I'm not a guy who crys but I teared up the day I learned that Levi passed away . . . . . he was a blessing to us all, wasn't he.

  • NBC News/Brian Williams did a nice tribute to Levy, one of those "you might not recognize his name but if I said "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch or Reach out I'll Be There..." that kind of intro. He said Levy was simply one of the greats, a voice that evoked passion, heartbreak, joy, you name it. If I hear Ask The Lonely (I'm 51) I won't specifically remember the song from my childhood. But the atmosphere of the song remind me of going to my grandma's house on a Sunday. Go figure. THAT'S great music.

  • So emotional....wow... words cannot discribe how beautiful this tribute was for one of the greatest R&B volcalists that ever lived. R.I.P. Mr. Levi Stubbs.

  • Tears !

  • Absolutely fantastic effort by the one and only Levi Stubbs. .Declining health and still produces that unique voice. We'll all remember your job well done. Rest in peace.

  • Beautiful.............

  • one of the true greats!

  • that made me get really emotional

  • Love makes you stronger. It is the most powerful force in the universe. God endowed him with that talent so that he could love. Levi actually seemed to strengthen as he did the song.

  • our loss,is the angel,s gain, your music will live on,just as Still Waters Run Deep, sleep well.

  • oooh... it's so emotional......

  • THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE 2 ONE OF MOTOWNS FINEST!!!! I LOVE LEVIS VICE!! IT CAN NEVER B DUPLICATED!! R.I.P. MR. LEVI STUBBS!! U R TURELY MISSED!

  • This was one of the most moving videos I have ever seen. A true artist never gives up and lives with us forever. I think if Levi wasn't overwhelmed by emotion, he would have hit that note into the grandstand. His voice cracking underscorded the emotion of the lyrics. No one can come close to these guys in artistry!

  • @AnneCorr The great man died in his sleep not long after this tape was recorded. I hope he is at peace cuz I love him dearly

  • This was very hard for me to watch, what a great voice, even during poor health you could still hear that wonder voice. I was privileged to see him perform at Westbury Music Fair, not many years ago, will always treasure his version of that beautiful song RIP Levi

  • God took Mr Levi Stubbs back home...he missed him in his heavenly choir..! We will forever miss him here on Earth.! Thank you so much, Mr. stubbs, for giving us the best years of your life with your incredible one-of-a-lifetime Voice.....RIP forevermore..!

  • It is not enough to tell someone you love them unless you show them and people we are witnessing love when we watch this clip.

  • anytime i need a good cry......i will play this video.........one of the greatest "natural" voices i have ever heard.................Yes, Luther was in his category and will always be in my heart.........there is NO comparing the two.....they were legendary voices and i am so thankful to have lived to see them and enjoyed both of their live concerts in person.....

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you God for sharing your Angel ~ Mr Levi Stubb`s for awhile with us!

God Bless him and the Fabulous Four Tops.

I know he is singing in that Awesome Heavenly Choir.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!

  • How moving what a great man

  • What a tribute and I'm so happy he had the strength, the spirit, and the presence to participate in this and to receive the love.

  • can anyone tell me what song is this?

  • @MrRacso93 I Believe In You And Me - Four Tops.. listen to the original version and just hear the voice that is Levi... one of the greatest voices os all time.

  • Great to hear true legendary annointed singing gifts. Levi was pure gold even when ill. Take note new generation.

  • He was the consummate professional. Even though he was weakened by strokes you see how he belted out the song. He even seemed to be getting stronger as he sang.

  • This was Levi Stubbs' final stage appearance. He later said it was one of the happiest nights of his life.

  • God has him now to enjoy! FJA NJ

  • @fa0798 True that, with Luther, Sam, Teddy, Ray, Clarence, Michael, Teena, Miles, Redd, 2pac, BIG, Pun, Selena, Left Eye, Aaliyah, and many others. It should be one giant jam session.

  • Levi, the Best !!!!

  • getting old sucks !.

  • So proud of this man, a hugh presence as the lead singer of the all mighty 4 tops, and the aspiration of all proud men, miss ye Livi Stubbs xxx

  • The young man singing is the incomparable Theo Peoples. He use to be with the Temptations back in the 90's. One of the best in the business.

  • who is this young guy singing with Aretha?

  • this made me cry

  • As Levi stubbs once said "It's Supper TIME!"

  • Truly Beautiful!.this made me cry.I saw them live in 1977 a wonderful memory

    God Bless you Levi xxx

  • And the tears continue to fall!

  • I'm too young to have truly appreciated Motown. But in my opinion, Levi Stubbs is the best singer ever on the label.

  • Levi Stubbs and The Four Tops were my favorite Mowtown group and always will be.

I saw this show a long time ago of Levi's last stage performance and cried then and am crying now. He was brilliant and his voice was a gift from God. I was fortunate enough to see the group perform four or five times including one show with the Temptations at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, that was the most wonderful show, under the stars that I ever saw. God Bless Levi ... his songs will live on forever.

  • goosebumps!!!!!!!!! emotions transcend vocal prowess!!! proof that the voice is only as good as the emotion one puts in a song....... this is great!!!!

  • I sat here in tears last night - this is anointed and awesome! You have to be a singer or passionate about music to know what this really means! SANG ARETHA, LEVI, THEO & THE TOPS!!!

  • A truly btilliant man, atruly brilliant voice right up until the end...

  • This is the definition of my brother's keeper......

  • I had never seen this video...It brought tears to my eyes...Aretha has such a big heart sharing the stage with Levi Stubbs...That man was an absolute powerhouse! What a voice!

  • I never knew he was in a wheelchair during his final years. I remember loving the 4 tops since I was kid. RIP Mr. Stubbs.

  • I cry every single time I watch this video. What a wonderful man. His voice was one of a kind. His music will live forever.

  • The one and only Levi Stubbs.....the final stage appearance with The Four Tops. I don't think you'll ever seeing anything as moving as this if you watch every single video posted on YouTube. RIP King Levi of Motown.

  • this video always leaves me in flood of tears, it is one of the most moving things i have ever witnessed. RIP levi you were the best my man

  • I get the feeling that, if it weren't for the emotion and tears, Levi could have sat there in the wheel chair and out sung everybody there.

  • In my early teens, I heard "Can't Help Myself" on a juke box when it first came out. What memories. Levi's voice just reaches out and grabs you, like no other that I have heard. I am a 59 year old man and I can't watch this withour my eyes tearing up.

  • Man, let me tell yuh..I'm a big hard-backed 60 something year old man and I was blubbing away in an internet shop...didn't care who saw me. Levi was so overcome by the waves of love coming his way.

I went out once with a girl who knew him. She said he was a gentleman. I never told her that the man had been one of my heroes for some time. If she reads this she'll know who she is. Levi would have found this funny. My man!

  • that is the most heartbreaking video i ever seen.myself and 3 mates had the pleasure of meeting and having a drink with levi, obie and duke after their show in a club in SWANSEA,WALES,U.K in1974 we were 21year old boys at the time.they were very humble guys with levi explaining why lawrence went back to the hotel as he was a shy type of person.R.I.P LEVI.OBIE.LAWRENCE.and to the DUKE a long life.thanks for the memories

  • Thank you @mikemacjunkie.

  • I'm in my mid-20's, and growing up my only exposure to Levi Stubb's voice, overall, was his role as Audrey II in "Little Shop of Horrors." However, that alone was enough to make me realize he was a talented singer and performer. He made that movie as enjoyable as it could be, and he's endearing to me in that regard. Hearing his normal stuff later on affirmed his talent, and it brought tears to my eyes seeing him respected as much as he was here. God bless, Mr. Stubbs.

  • What happened to him to be in a wheelchair?

  • @shrededwheat he had a stroke a few years ago. he died in 2008.

  • Livi does not need the noise and 99 doesnt eitheir,,bye

  • OMG my generation is dying out. I can't type anymore

  • That was beautiful and heartbreaking. I am very emotional now just watching this. It is soo sad to see our great legends leaving us one by one. And now Aretha herself is fighting a terminal illness. This is just too much for me to deal with right now. I have to go.

  • And to prove my point with what I'm saying please check the video on youtube and if anyone has any objections, feel free to reply.

The Four Tops JUST ASK THE LONELY - Shivaree -

Levis voice at it's greatest potential,no mic,no equalizers no crap or such. Purest voice of all time!

  • @CANCERBREATH What an Unusual name, but I so agree with you.I cant think of anyone else who can sing that song like Levi did, just breathtaking , Just ask the lonely, ask Meeeeee!Pure magic!

  • Back then, they did not have no sorts of types of equalizers that would enhance nor clear their voice on the mic, those where the TRUE voices back then and Levi's voice WAS and will FOREVER be one of the GREATEST voices that ever song in the Motown industry. That is what separates a true singer from a low class singer. And they have proven it by having the most acapella songs. Now thats class in vocals. There will never be another Levi Stubbs on this planet.May God rest his soul.Amen.

  • Truly a magnificent performer and perfectionist...We love you here in England Levi!!!!!!

  • To all those that entered into our lived whether it be family friends or singers whos vocal talents touched our very existence and moved us in the good times and comforted us in the sad that have all now passed over. God Bless you and Thank you for inspiring us.

  • cry evertime i watch this

  • this just changed my life.

  • Levi Stubbs was an angel sent from The Heavens to embrace us all with his astounding vocals,to captivate our hearts and make us bend to the echoes of his voice.A man who was not selfish and turned down offers of doing a solo career.A true Gentleman. At 5:45 of the video where he leans forward from his wheelchair, the man wants to sing so bad and where I cry is whenever i hear the frase "Levi's voice is a miracle" and truthfully... The man himself is a miracle... A TRUE MIRACLE that walked earth!!!

  • @CANCERBREATH

I named my first born son "Levi". Stubbs didn't become "Levi and The Tops" like Smokey and Diana. A common man blessed with greatness!

  • @CANCERBREATH Well, except that he was an evil alien plant that wanted to devour all of mankind, in Little shop of Horrors. But yeah, otherwise he's an angel.

  • @CANCERBREATH AMEN TO THAT !!

  • @CANCERBREATH Levi Stubbs just moved on to greater & higher places ! of that i have zero doubts the show continues :-) book your tickets now !!

  • He isnt dead he comes back when you press play.......

  • this is so sad to see this great man in a wheel chair

  • This video is beautiful and sad. I grew up with the Four Tops. So many beautiful memories.

Rest in Peace Levi and thank you for so many wonderful songs and memories

    God Bless

  • it's very sad and teary everytime i see this video love you levi rest peacfully no more pain you're home with you're father sharing what you gave us.

  • At 72, in bad health, he could still hit those high notes. He died later that year.

  • @1uniquemonique

Actually it was about 3 years after this show that he passed away.

  • The voice of God sounds like Levi Stubbs.

  • What an important inspiring voice to alll who heard him. We just lost Solomon Burke. We're losing all that mattered for our inspirational survival as the people who are responsible for much of what continues to be not credited accurately or at all. We have clowns who disrespect everything that was great everywhere.

  • I wonder if kids today get chills in their spines when they listen to their rap/hip hop jams.

  • As I'm viewing this video I can look at it over and over again. As the Queen of soul mention, Levi Stubbs was a "World Class" leader and much more, I hadn't viewed this video until a month ago. And by seeing the Tops performing back at my high school day's that I will never forget. As a few had mention this was church night and even make's us men cry, just because from the love the group has given us of memories...

  • I cry every time I watch this. So beautifully done and touching.

  • sad but so beautiful. i wonder how many people today stop and in their hearts say a small thank you to these people for the memories and the work they put in. may this wonderful man rest in peace and may we all come to appreciate the legacy they all left and are leaving us.

  • Last night I was here with my daughter and els was watching a kids' movie Shark Tale and I heard the song cannot help myself ..

and I figured as much when I heard this song, but you know those songs that we hear from child, and even knows the pace but never know who sings it? I heard a piece and went looking when I found the Four Tops began to see one behind the other, but when I thought it was sad how the old Levi was I'm sorry for the loss of a great singer

  • The most awesome singing plant ever made...

    RIP Levi, you deserve it.

  • as sad as this is to watch Levi still sounds better than that windbag Areatha and that cracker jack lounge singer trying to sing this song with him that song is way to big for anyone to handle except for him and his voice

  • This is the ULTIMATE LOVE SONG to the one you love the most song by the ULTIMATE BALLARDEER--Mr. Levi Stubbs. God Bless you Levi, you're one of HIS angels now.

  • Levi had a great sense of humor to go along with that voice. I will miss him.

  • Levi Stubbs...what a voice...world class...RIP

  • this is an amazing post thank you i cry every time i watch and yes i believe in love... thank you mr. stubbs may you rest in peace

  • Man oh man....we should make people watch this video just to prove if they have heart or not. If you don't feel this video in your heart then this should be a moment of clarity for you.

RIP Levi and thank you yet again.

  • I feel so sad after watching this that I wished I hadn't. RIP Levi.

  • OMG

when Levi cried, i actually cried to

  • even thoguh i've never seen him or heard of him when i was little

i think when i see him, that he must've been the kindest man ever lived

but to see him in a wheelchair, just breaks my heart, 'cause i have an uncle on my mothers side that's in a wheelchair to, i can't even get into his home without crying like a 5-year old

  • So sad, a man who had so much energy and voice, thankyou for the music, ni-night godbless Mr Liva Stubbs!

  • I remember watching the four tops live at hammersmith and wembley in the early nineties. Levi the front man was fantastic. It was so good to see him even through illness making such a brillant effort. I think an inspiration to us all.

  • that was emotionally draining so sad, the four tops turned out some fantastic songs, which will be played over and over again i hope.rip mr stubbs.

  • There was no one on that stage to compare with Levi

  • Can't get through this one with dry eyes.

  • MY GOD....HIS VOICE....I'LL NEVER EVER FORGET LEVI STUBBS!!!!

I COULDN'T WHOLE BACK THE TEARS WHILE WATCHING HIM. If you grew up listening to his music you're understand how i feel.

  • This still brings tears to my eyes :{

  • If you paid $10,000 to see that show you'd walk away feeling like you should pay $10,000 more...RIP Levi and thank you.

  • Brings tears to your eyes wot a star he was xxxxxx R.I.P. LEVI X

  • Thank God I was able to see them before Levi and the others passed....

  • Absolutely amazing - how could anyone watch this and not like it and be moved to tears - Two of the most amazing voices ever on stage together. Let's see which of today's artists are still performing in 50 years eh!! Motown will live for ever!

  • Very touching and emotional :'(

  • The Four Tops , The Temptations , Motown ....all great Music ,,,, Levi Stubbs Life and Memory stands alone ,,, Thanks for posting !!

  • what an amazing vid, so moving, Aretha u r still the Queen and Levi one of the best soul voices ever, would like to know what 3 dicks didnt like this clip. Obv no soul!!

  • I grew up adoring Levi Stubbs, as my parents were devotees of Tamla Mowtown, especially the Four Tops. It must break many folk's hearts to watch this; an exceptional man with a once in a lifetime voice. This never ceases to move me.

  • This is one of the most saddest v idoes I have ever seen. It was truely an honor to watch. I loved this mans voice, and how wonderful it was to watch all the love he was giving by the singers and fans.

  • How I wish I could have been there to see this in person!!What a man and what a tribute!! He is just CLASS! As is Aretha for her love and respect of this Motown icon!

  • This video just made me cry....! Im not even gonna sit here and lie this song touched me...! And to see levi sit there in that state and still sing omg its an inspiration...!

  • I'm crying my eyes out

  • You can still hear that voice in there. Sweet.

  • Although this video broke my heart, it also warmed my heart to see the Great Levi Stubbs & the 4 Tops again!! These men gave their ALL to entertain us, comfort us when sad, rejoice with us when happy, & remind us that LOVE is the all important thing in Life. Bless your hearts, & may you rest in peace until that day when we'll all shall meet again! Amen. Bless you Soulinthesun1 for posting this.

  • @ A- The man has brain cancer, is confined to a wheelchair, and (sorry Whitney) he still brings it!! No one sings this song like Levi Stubbs!! God bless.

  • Hey A ! U are incredible!!!

  • nothingis better than Levi sing his song.

  • I love Levi Stubbs, what a beautiful extremely talented man.

  • i cried

  • One of the most humbling, emotional and gut-wrenching seven minutes I have ever spent.

This man has left an incomparable legacy that will live on in the annuls of music and time.

God blessed him with a gift that he chose to share with all of us for so long....but perhaps not long enough at all...

  • @secondchancehelen DITTO!!!! WOW!!!
