To reduce its TDP the clockspeed will be decreased drasticly eventhough that everyone will be expecting a TDP max which would be alot and what is said something like the asus ARES 2x an 8pin and 1x 6pin with motherboard this will be enough for 450watt of power.

@madzane94 it may be old but it's still one of the most powerful gpu's on the planet today. only being topped by the hd5970, while the gtx295 and gtx480 is only slightly stronger, and is on par with the 5870 for about $100 less now (if you can still find one).

How the HELL does ATI keep their business?! I've tried 3 different ATI products and all three have failed to work. ATI's tech support knows less about computers than I do and they're such sticklers about product numbers and such!How do they stay in business? I have the 4870x2. It is pretty insanely fast, but it gets insanely hot too. You'd literally have to get yourself to a hospital and get treated for your burnt hand if you dare touching it.

You still think I'm kidding? Ok. This card runs as hot as 90C. Water boils at 100C.

So yeah...it's still faster than the 5850, but it need one helluva power supply and runs extremely hot. You're better off with a 5850.

the difference between 4870 and 4890 is that your 4890 runs at a bit higher frequencies than the 4870.

The 4870 core clock runs at 750MHz and the 4890 runs at 850

HD5870 is litle faster overall, 2,4 versus 2,7 Tflops. The HD4870X2 is still a beast, but HD5870 is better choice now because of DX11 and lower power consumption.

if you only have a 19" monitor & don't plan on upgrading anytime soon you don't even need a 4870, 4890, 5850. All those cards perform much better in demanding games on high settings at a 22" monitor res or higher(1680x1050, 1900x1200) so if u'll be playing on a 19" just get a 9800GT or 4850

Doesn't running it at x8 literally half the performance? and then with Crossfire(X) you don't completely regain performance in the secondary card, so you would be getting by approximation 80% performance level of a card that , on average performs worse than the GTX295 in average gaming conditions. So with the money you have, buy a motherboard with a PCIe 2.0 x16 and get a GETX295 .... and, be happy?
