@TheFaithful14u ... i studied this film very well and you are right to have that reaction, this is exactly wht the director wanted people to feel. the end is hard to watch but its supposed to make a comment on the US judicial system. not my words. the whole movie is about making a point and sometimes directors will do this sort of thing to achieve their goal. i am a filmmaker myself and its hard to find people liking this movie for its subject matter and especially the commentary it makes.
@nagwagi2000 The movie should have won the oscar, bjork should have won the oscar, von Trier should have won it too. Instead the dull Julia Roberts got it
I love the lyrics and melody to this beautiful song! And this original soundtrack version is way better than that other duet version by Thom York which has Bjork's character singing all the wrong lines!!! Whatever.
A magical almost spiritual masterpiece, I was speechless after I first saw it (unusul LOL ) I did hear that Bjork was just originally hired to write the score only and then won the chance to play the girl.. She makes an award winning apperance.(this film is on the same level as Tarantino !!!
I´ve seen that film with my friends and when it ended, we weren´t able to speak, to move, to breathe for a long time after the ending credits passed over....the only succesful treatment was that a friend of mine played some heavy metal :-D
This was one hell of a movie Bjork not only wrote the songs but gave aonce in a lifetime dramatic performance which earned a Best Actress award at Cannes, I usually don't like musicals/ but this is dark Try to picture Dead Man Walking meets The Sound Of Music
This movie is one of the best ever made. It is quiet, yet simple, but in its simplicity it is great. And it is one of the few musicals that go much deeper than somewhat superficial. That is what all movies should be like: critical, touching and unique.
I hear, and totally agree, with that! I accidentally saw it - just happened to catch it being broadcast one Sat. afternoon (last summer, on WGN[!] - good for them!)...and...I was transfixed - it was hypnotic, absolutely stunning! Wasn't able to get it out of my head for weeks...didn't really want to, tho'...truth be known.
One of the best performances in cinema and when you factor in that Bjork wrote the soundtrack as well, and it was her first acting role. It took me a very long time to get over what I had just seen after the film had ended.
To be honest I really think Bjork must won the 2000 Academy Award for Best leading Actress. She deserved this award more than Julia Robert...But whatever!
It's an amazing movie. I've seen it just after its Palme d'or Festival de Cannes. It was so emotionnaly hard and powerfull that i've been completely disturbed. Nowadays, I'm still not able to see it again, even though I think it's wonderfull
this footage made me want to see the whole movie again

Lagu ini bagus, sangat mewakili filmnya, dibawakan dengan sentuhan emosional oleh Bjork, seperti lagu-lagu di albumnya, great singer, great actress.

the Best Actress for the Oscar should've been down to Bjork and Ellen Burstyn...but no...Hollywood chose Julia Roberts..............so ridiculous.

@kenney1086 I did cry, and I cried next morning, and for one month I was beside myself.
To me it was as she didn't act at all, she IS Selma.
And I have loved Bjork ever since I saw her the first time on MTV with the sugarcubes and HIT. Look it up.
Cheers

I might be in the stage version of this. how cool would that be. even to be an audience member, to be so close to it, in it.
