Three different tournaments during Karn's Era: The Winner-Take All tournament (this one), the Lovable Losers Tournament, and the Tournament of Champions. This is NOT the Tournament of Champions, get your facts straight.
THIS is the Tournament of Champions: watch?v=db1oA9x0rz8
When I heard the question, "Name something with a hole in the middle," I thought Carolyn was gonna say a hole punch. Because that's what happened to a contestant during the Combs era. That was embarrassing. If you haven't seen it, check out SGSA's channel. There's a video with that blooper in there somewhere.
First off, sorry to the Holcombs for what happened to them after the show with house burning down. Least you had some blessings with a baby and marriage though.
As for the show, the one thing I don't like about sudden death is......the way the show is edited now, if the first person doesn't get the answer, you know the other team will win because they edit out faceoffs where nobody got an answer on the board. I'd like to see them waive this rule for sudden death if they could, to add drama.
In this tourney of champions video and the other one, the difference in sudden death is how they hit the buzzer. The winners always minimize the amount of vertical distance their hand goes i.e. they keep their hands lowand go directly for the buzzer, while the losers raise their hands and slam them down.
Seems nitpicky, but it's a 1-2 second difference that makes the diff between 80k and nothing.
We were on the show a few months before the tournament and lost. We did not win money that time. Every family that was invited to the tournament were familes that lost previously but the staff really liked. It was 10 familes total. Any money that was won during the tourney went to the pot. So we had to forfeit the money that our family won during the tournament which was $20,000. All the money that the other families won was awarded to the Hoggs which totaled $80K.
Okay. The "Holcomb" family is my family. I gave the answer about being under pressure. Although is has been 3 years it still stings to see this episode.
To put things in perspective, the families on here who lost have things going on in their lives too. Right after we did the show my parents house burned, my sister had her baby, and I got married. We really could have used the money. And I am sure the Hoggs did too. But it is not funny when the families lose. That is all I am saying.
Yes that would be true under normal circumstances but this was a winner take all tournament. The money was placed in a pot. All the money we won went to the Hoggs. But yes we did make it to the finals and it was a great experience (minus losing). The money did go to a good family though. The Hoggs were nice people.
Can anyone please post all episodes of Family Feud Tournament Of Champions from Dawson, Combs, Anderson, Karn, and O'Hurley because I want to see which champion families have won
I saw the tournament on GSN but didnt find out who won because they started playing OHurley episodes

@TheLard57
Not exactly. To debunk that theory/stereotype, check out the video I posted as a response to this one. Believe it or not, both families were black.

That sudden death round is horrible! They answer one question and then win $80,000?

For what it's worth, Dawson's runs never had a tournament of champions I don't think. Only the other runs have.

I'll always remember this episode! It was a very exciting moment for the Hoggs. The balloon drop was great, too!
And I personally think that Richard Karn was a much better host than most people give him credit for.

the funny thing is that they actually doubled their score, (they had 234 going into sudden death, and they got 234 more.)

So the Hoggs "Hogged" the Holcombs, big time. Final score: 468-320.
