"The magic move". Note how he connects his right elbow to his right hip on the downswing. Do that BEFORE applying any right arm thrust then thrust with as much thrust as you can muster.Ben Hogan said he wished he had 2 right hands at that point. Two right ARMS would have been a better visual.
@bunkerputt it's important to first understand that Rory does not do any of this intentionally, rather his unique hip action results from the velocity of his kinematic sequence, and his mobility. His hips rotate and a high velocity to approx. 80 degrees open just before impact. Thus, his hips, torso, and arms de-accelerate sequentially. This de-acceleration is present in all good players. The "stop" is simply the effect of two causes: the velocity, and the degree of Rory's extreme hip rotation.
McIlroy is the only top golfer showing that level of flexibility. There seems to be not one tight muscle in his body, apart from maybe the right wrist. Btw: the real magic here is where he drops his head and right knee coming off the top -- then uses this to balance his downswing. Brilliant !
unfortunate title for the video

Why do his hips stop? That's a great mystery worthy of a PHd in something.

@bunkerputt They have to stop so the hands can pass the body to get the club square through impact.
