I think there is a problem with GMO (genetically modified organism), and it is that we and not even the top scientists know all the possible consequesnces that it will bring to the consumers that eat it. I don't have a problem with genetically modifying salmon. I do have a problem with them being released into the wild to breed or kill other slamon and if they grow that fast what is to stop them from eating themselves right out of a food source. It unbalances nature. I also have a problem with eating fish raised in farms due to problems with their diet. There hasn't been enough testing and no honest testing. This is progressing advancement too fast we haven't even got beef right yet.

I heard of this one variety of corn that was made with thicker cell walls and are therefore more resistant to insects feeding on them. In that case, less insecticides are needed to protect them, making them a MORE healthy to eat.

My point is, you definately want to be careful about what your eating, there is no doubt about that, but saying that all GMO's are unhealthy is only going to hurt us in the long run.

Yea every plant and animal used in agriculture have been altered through selective breeding by people to make them develop those traits that are considered more desirable. That is an indirect method of doing it, and people have used it for thousands of years.

I dont necessarily agree with creating GMO's with vitamins added to them and stuff, but some of them are altered in ways that are more benign.

However, does that mean we should abandon GM foods completely when there is so much potential in them? I mean, same with vaccines - yea, they've got mercury, but that's better than being at risk for polio, isn't it? I think a middle ground is the best option - we improve the technology to make it sure it is not harmful, instead of banning it.

We are seeing an increase in cancers throughout the age spectrum, again caused by what? A decrease in the bee population which polinates our crops. Genetically modified foods ARE harmful as it stands. I'm not denying that. There are case studies which prove this. Read Jeffrey Smith's books on them - Genetic Roulette was great. It provides case studies, on animals and humans, and also goes into reasons why geneticists believe they are harmful. So we know they're harmful. Which do you think the better approach is?
