@abdurog1122a I Dont know on what resolution you are going to play, but @ 1440x900 with the same GPU I can play bf3 on high-ultra with worse CPU, ram etc than you. so you will be fine I think
@trekhead1 This CPU will work. The GPU might be a problem depending on your resolution. You can probably run it on low and still be over 30FPS depending on your resolution
overclocked my amd 955 to 3.8 ghz increased voltege to 4.2v and got my results from stability test ran for 10 hours and no errors, temp was around 37-42 celciuse, specs, amd 955, collermaster v8, 8gb g-skill 1600mhz, asus m5a97 am3+,ocz 600w modxtreme pro and amd xfx 6870 black edition, anyone planing on getting a phenom black edition i recomend u buy 955 cause u can clock it to the same clock speed as others effortless and save some cash :D
i have x4 955 and i am disappointed, next time i will jump on intel i5 2500k, it only costs 100euros more and 5 euros more expensive mobo but it's worth it.
@Hankextreme yes, in gaming. it doesn't bottle neck my gpu ( gtx 570 ) in almost any games, except for battlefield 3 skyrim and saints row the third. for future gaming like next year you should get intel i5 2500k. it's better and faster than any of the 6 core phenoms.
and i check'd the price. in finland, we pay VERY high taxes and it costs 208euros so it will be lower anywhere else i think.
but if you play valve games call of duty and that kind of games you should be cool with phenom ii x4 955
my 955 goes to 51idle and in stress 60-65 without overclocking...with boxcooler it was even worse but now with my freezer pro its little bit better. My friends say they have so much lower temperatures with boxcooler..can it be broken?
@SuperSonicDonk3y Thats my problem, I have 3 fans surrounding my CPU and and am getting 47 C idle, along with 70-79 C Max load...I was going to get a aftermarket cooloer this next week anyways, but I'm still worried...:(
@Blaze11000 the phenom x4 955 only comes in black edition therefore your 955 is a black edition and there is no difference because the regular one doesnt exist.

Just bought it on newegg for 120$ ish. Decent price for a decent processor. Doing a budget build so intell was out of the question. Then sell great processors but for often twice the cost of AMD's.
@PCWizKid im new to computer tech, so plz if u reply plz talk in noob :) should i be able to play just about any game on this computer with a good $150-$175 graphics card on a reasonable setting? (for graphics quality) thanks!
Because I have this CPU and I'm looking to oc but worried about heat ( new CPU cooler is out because I don't know how to remove my motherboard) thanks
I play crysis on this cpu, combined with a gtx 460 and 8GB of ddr3, this thing is a beast. I've overclocked it to 3.93GHz on aftermarket cpu fan from zalman and it runs great. AMD overdrive works flawless with it. gets 7.4 on my windows score and I run Crysis at very high get 30-50fps at 1920x1080 :) buy it, you can't beat it for the price
@edwardwills Personally i have an Ultra LSP 750Watts Power Supply, but it really depends on what you need and have on your rig, my motherboard requires a power supply with a 4-pin connector known as P4, but some motherboards require an 8-pin connector, so you better check the specs on your motherboard to make sure, the processor is awesome, i really like it. Hope this helps.
I sent the manufactor an email seeing which power supply they recommend. I am looking into a 750W one. I would like one 1gig video card, one 2 gig video card, and one good sound card.
All in all, I will have a 3.2 GHZ processor, 16 gig of ram (yes, I know it is a lot). I have NO NEED to overclock, because I have been running a 1.8ghz with 1 gig of ram for two years, so factory specs will seem like a super computer to me.
@edwardwills MMMHHHH quite frankly to run two video cards you need at least an 850 watter, now, are you gonna be using a PhysX dedicated card and a main GPU?, which cards are you looking for?, because a 1Gb card doesn't really mean that is going to be a super card, a lot of RAM is just necessary when using big monitors, but i will set an example, Running a GTX 570 as main gpu and a GTS 450 as a PhysX dedicated card, and all the specs thta you are looking for, an 850 watts will be ok
@DaniFilth84 I ordered a Cooler Master GX Series 750W ATX Power Supply RS750-ACAAE3-US. I currently have or will have a Visiontek Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB PCI-E DVI Recrt (just something cheap I got refrubished for $35 to run two monitors for stock screens), HOWEVER, I am looking into a GREAT PCI X 16 card to run movies, etc. 1) any advice on a GREAT PCI X 16 card? 2) With a simple 512MB and a PCI X16, running a Phemon II X 4 with 16 gb of ram with a 750 W PSU should be enough????
@edwardwills With those specs, a 750W will be more than enough, i checked the power supply specs, and it's great, 60amps on the 12Volt rail is great. It will be a good product for sure man.
@edwardwills Sorry i was using my brother's account without noticing it, Personally i have an Ultra LSP 750Watts Power Supply, but it really depends on what you need and have on your rig, my motherboard requires a power supply with a 4-pin connector known as P4, but some motherboards require an 8-pin connector, so you better check the specs on your motherboard to make sure, the processor is awesome, i really like it. Hope this helps.
hello, to anyone that knows... im looking to buy this processor with an asus gts 450, is this a good combo for gaming? im not a hardcore gamer so games dont have to be on max settings, just as long as i can run most games that are out right now at decent settings. Thanks for your time.
@NsMs96 Yessir I have a gtx 460 cyclone and this CPU and it works great playing fallout new Vegas on ultra-high settings and assassins creed 2 on highest settings without problems just make sure ur motherboard is compatible I had abunch of trouble with gettin mine to read it but it's worth it
dear sir , whats cpus role on game play ? i am using core2duo and ati 4850 512 , i tired same video card on other core i7 but same fps . we need cpu or gpu for gaming ??? plan for my new pc , core 2 duo and 5870 1gb card with 40 gb ssd and 1 tb hdd , please suggest me , core 2 duo + mb is so cheaper then core i 5 or core i7
@newkayson if there's any truth in passmark's benches, amd is the best bang for your buck. seriously, check it out. a better gpu would be a good idea. the 4850 is a beast but it's not good compared to some stuff that's out now (not all ex; ati's 5450 or nvidia's geforce 210 gt). the 5870 would be a wise choice, but the ssd isn't needed. it's faster but there is only so many times the memory can be written over. i wouldn't personally.
940, 955, 965, and 970 are very much identical aside from their stock clocks. its better to choose the 955 and overclock it to 3.5ghz so it can perform with the same level as the 970 but when in it comes to extreme overclocking, the 970 is the best choice.
Im thinking of either getting this, 965, or 945. I play on 1440 x 900. 4gb ddr2, ATI 5770 1gb. I also need a new motherboard that supports the power. Any suggestions please?
@SirHubCAp Asrock K10N78M-PRO motherboard, also a gtx 460 768mb would be a nice upgrade even though since it only has 768mb it would limit you at higher res like 1080p but since you play at 1440x900 that shouldn't be a problem and you will get a lot more performance for just a lil more money.
This is a great video review! Helped me decide whether or not to buy a 955 BE, didn't regret it when I did and definately still don't now! Thanks PCWizKid.
By the way, the cooler in that video is $120 and the CPU with BE and stock heatsink and fan is $145. So, that fan is likely worth more than the chip, or about the exact same.
I am currently running this CPU and when running the Gothic IV demo on Max settings my temp gets up to 61C. 62C is max for the CPU, so I was looking to lower the temp. Using stock heatsink/fan with preapplied thermal paste. I think the problem is that the voltage is set to 1.4 when it should be 1.350, however, it only gives me the option to increase the voltage in my BIOS for the GA-MA790X-DS4 mobo. Any ideas?
i have that processor... and i say that is the best processor of the world. never give me problems and has always operated as quickly as possible. I do not think in exchange for a good few years.
is the 'Arctic-cooling freezer 7 pro rev.2' a good cooler for this cpu?? i want to build a pc with this cpu but i wanted to make sure i am taking a good cooler... not a weak piece of sh*t :-) I'm just planning to overclock it a little bit... like from 3.2Ghz to 3.6 Ghz or 3.8Ghz... thanx in advance!
is the 'Arctic-cooling freezer 7 pro rev.2' a good cooler for this cpu?? i want to build a pc with this cpu but i wanted to make sure i am taking a good cooler... not a weak piece of sh*t :-)
I'm seriously thinking about getting this CPU but I'm not sure that it will work well with my graphic card. Someone at the store told me that my graphic card is not good enough to support this CPU and i wont be able to use the CPU to it's max. is this true?? my graphic card is an radeon hd 3800, its 512mb, the core runs at 680MHz, it has a bandwidth of 53GB/s and a texture/pixel fill rate of 10.7GB/s.
Plz respond to this as soon as possible, i really need some advice. Thanks!
By saying it can use ddr2 and ddr3, does that mean that I can put for instance 4GB DDR3 RAM in 1 slot, and 2GB DDR2 Ram in another slot? Would that work?
id get the 955. The 965 is just an overclocked 955 so its not really worth buying. Its 3.4Ghz, as opposed to the 955's 3.2Ghz. Im getting the 955 for my new rig, cant wait :)
actually 60c max on load is good, especially for a stock cooler. If you're looking for an aftermarket cooler, I recommend the coolermaster hyper 212 plus. It's about $30 on newegg.
The 965 and the 955 are better at benchmarks than the Phenom X6! I'm not sure what to buy... I want to buy a better CPU than my Athlon II 620 before Christmas. I heard that AMD will bring out before October two new 6 Cores CPU! The Phenom II X6 1035T 2,6 GHz and the Phenom II X6 1045T 2,7 GHz! I'm between 3: Phenom 955, Phenom 965 and Phenom 1045T! What should I buy? I know much for computers but I'm confused now... Better gaming or faster applications?
I got this Processor running at 3.8 ghz on stock cooler and it does not even go over 53 Celcius on a full payload. for $160 bucks? It's a no brainer, go with AMD because you actually get what you pay for, and you can ensure there is no wasted penny. intel makes really good processors, but they're so expensive it isn't even worth it. Even their older dual cores are still a rip off.
@bvabhi noooo nooo I7 is a lot better but A LOT MORe EPENSIVE! Intels i7 extreme six core CPu 3.3Ghz cost $999 AMD Phenom IIX6 only costs $260 at 3.2 Ghz
@bvabhi Intels is based more on speed, AMD is more about performance, its hard for me to explain but Both companies are good but Amd is more affordable unless you can afford a high end computer which costs like 2000-3000 then then go for intel i7
@abdurog1122a I Dont know on what resolution you are going to play, but @ 1440x900 with the same GPU I can play bf3 on high-ultra with worse CPU, ram etc than you. so you will be fine I think

@TeHF0rc3 Well there are 2 things you need to consider.
1.What's your motherboard?I ask this question because the motherboard
dictates what Memory,Power supply,Graphics Card, case, optical Drives and fans
you use.2.Is your Graphics Card an HIS 5570 Silent 1080P low power consumption card?
Graphic cards when used in SLI discription wich aren't low power consumption cards are good but
Run hot.The silent low power usage cards can get the job done for games but can't push high

@TeHF0rc3 Single player games (not online) are good for SLI.Multiplayer use 1080P
low power consumption card (one only) are best for online. The reason for this is due
to packet size transfer Time/Size affect latency or LAG.Turn down your resolution and
adjust computer workload threw task manager to stop non essential from draining
resources.

@DaniFilth84 What power supply do we need to run this on our motherboard?
edwardwills 10 months ago
@edwardwills Personally i have an Ultra LSP 750Watts Power Supply, but it really depends on what you need and have on your rig, my motherboard requires a power supply with a 4-pin connector known as P4, but some motherboards require an 8-pin connector, so you better check the specs on your motherboard to make sure, the processor is awesome, i really like it. Hope this helps.
synistersixxfold 10 months ago
@synistersixxfold Gigabyte Socket Motherboard GA-880GMA-UD2H
I have NO NEED to overclock, because I have been running a 1.8ghz with 1 gig of ram for two years, so factory specs will seem like a super computer to me.
edwardwills 10 months ago
@edwardwills MMMHHHH quite frankly to run two video cards you need at least an 850 watter, now, are you gonna be using a PhysX dedicated card and a main GPU?, which cards are you looking for?, because a 1Gb card doesn't really mean that is going to be a super card, a lot of RAM is just necessary when using big monitors, but i will set an example, Running a GTX 570 as main gpu and a GTS 450 as a PhysX dedicated card, and all the specs thta you are looking for, an 850 watts will be ok
DaniFilth84 10 months ago
@DaniFilth84 I ordered a Cooler Master GX Series 750W ATX Power Supply RS750-ACAAE3-US. I currently have or will have a Visiontek Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB PCI-E DVI Recrt (just something cheap I got refrubished for $35 to run two monitors for stock screens), HOWEVER, I am looking into a GREAT PCI X 16 card to run movies, etc. 1) any advice on a GREAT PCI X 16 card? 2) With a simple 512MB and a PCI X16, running a Phemon II X 4 with 16 gb of ram with a 750 W PSU should be enough????
edwardwills 10 months ago
@edwardwills With those specs, a 750W will be more than enough, i checked the power supply specs, and it's great, 60amps on the 12Volt rail is great. It will be a good product for sure man.

If i upgrade from HD4870 to HD6950, this is still a dragon
And all AMD 7 series motherboards are considered dragon platforms.
Why is this so strict to HD4800 and 790FX/790GX? That is BS.

newkayson 1 year ago
@newkayson if there's any truth in passmark's benches, amd is the best bang for your buck. seriously, check it out. a better gpu would be a good idea. the 4850 is a beast but it's not good compared to some stuff that's out now (not all ex; ati's 5450 or nvidia's geforce 210 gt). the 5870 would be a wise choice, but the ssd isn't needed. it's faster but there is only so many times the memory can be written over. i wouldn't personally.

iamamenlala 1 year ago
940, 955, 965, and 970 are very much identical aside from their stock clocks. its better to choose the 955 and overclock it to 3.5ghz so it can perform with the same level as the 970 but when in it comes to extreme overclocking, the 970 is the best choice.

Im thinking of either getting this, 965, or 945. I play on 1440 x 900. 4gb ddr2, ATI 5770 1gb. I also need a new motherboard that supports the power. Any suggestions please?
SirHubCAp 1 year ago
@SirHubCAp Asrock K10N78M-PRO motherboard, also a gtx 460 768mb would be a nice upgrade even though since it only has 768mb it would limit you at higher res like 1080p but since you play at 1440x900 that shouldn't be a problem and you will get a lot more performance for just a lil more money.

how much would it cost for the PSU CPU and the motherboard?
67jacquie 1 year ago
By the way, the cooler in that video is $120 and the CPU with BE and stock heatsink and fan is $145. So, that fan is likely worth more than the chip, or about the exact same.
D4rkPhilosopher 1 year ago
I am currently running this CPU and when running the Gothic IV demo on Max settings my temp gets up to 61C. 62C is max for the CPU, so I was looking to lower the temp. Using stock heatsink/fan with preapplied thermal paste. I think the problem is that the voltage is set to 1.4 when it should be 1.350, however, it only gives me the option to increase the voltage in my BIOS for the GA-MA790X-DS4 mobo. Any ideas?

I'm seriously thinking about getting this CPU but I'm not sure that it will work well with my graphic card. Someone at the store told me that my graphic card is not good enough to support this CPU and i wont be able to use the CPU to it's max. is this true?? my graphic card is an radeon hd 3800, its 512mb, the core runs at 680MHz, it has a bandwidth of 53GB/s and a texture/pixel fill rate of 10.7GB/s.
Plz respond to this as soon as possible, i really need some advice. Thanks!

id get the 955. The 965 is just an overclocked 955 so its not really worth buying. Its 3.4Ghz, as opposed to the 955's 3.2Ghz. Im getting the 955 for my new rig, cant wait :)

@erickfer1888 if max = 60*c then its bad offcourse. Remove the stock cooler and buy a new one. :) stock cooler = sucks.
Xextreem 1 year ago

actually 60c max on load is good, especially for a stock cooler. If you're looking for an aftermarket cooler, I recommend the coolermaster hyper 212 plus. It's about $30 on newegg.
amexnamedluis 1 year ago
The 965 and the 955 are better at benchmarks than the Phenom X6! I'm not sure what to buy... I want to buy a better CPU than my Athlon II 620 before Christmas. I heard that AMD will bring out before October two new 6 Cores CPU! The Phenom II X6 1035T 2,6 GHz and the Phenom II X6 1045T 2,7 GHz! I'm between 3: Phenom 955, Phenom 965 and Phenom 1045T! What should I buy? I know much for computers but I'm confused now... Better gaming or faster applications?

For OCing this chip to 3.8 GHz, will I need an aftermarket cooler?
Or how about 3.6 GHz?
YTMbrianpeppersND 1 year ago
I got this Processor running at 3.8 ghz on stock cooler and it does not even go over 53 Celcius on a full payload. for $160 bucks? It's a no brainer, go with AMD because you actually get what you pay for, and you can ensure there is no wasted penny. intel makes really good processors, but they're so expensive it isn't even worth it. Even their older dual cores are still a rip off.
Onslaught808 1 year ago
I'm just asking because I'm not sure, but is it possible to unlock on this cpu from x4 to x6 cores?

Is the AMD PHENOM X6 equals to intel i7?
bvabhi 1 year ago
@bvabhi noooo nooo I7 is a lot better but A LOT MORe EPENSIVE! Intels i7 extreme six core CPu 3.3Ghz cost $999 AMD Phenom IIX6 only costs $260 at 3.2 Ghz
Nexumbiker110 1 year ago
@Nexumbiker110 The AMD 6 core CPUs are pretty shitty though. They can't even beat an i7 920 on alot if not most of the benchmarks.
timmy9632 1 year ago
@bvabhi Intels is based more on speed, AMD is more about performance, its hard for me to explain but Both companies are good but Amd is more affordable unless you can afford a high end computer which costs like 2000-3000 then then go for intel i7
