  • UP´S ME REQUETENCANTA SARITA Y TU....? MUY BUENA ROOOLA..! BIENTOS HURACANADOS...JEJEJE!!

  • Yep, this song is still great today. I've been revisiting a bunch of my old Crowded House CD's wondering why they've been on the shelf for so long. MP's CD needs to be dusted off as well.

  • Michael Penn also played Nick the Recording Engineer in the 1997 movie "Boogie Nights" -- highly recommended viewing

  • bloody love this song.

  • @2010carlton Me too!

  • "what if I were Romeo in black jeans? What if I was Heathcliff? Its no myth." one of the greatest lines ever written..

  • @Annimunchkin I dont get it.. Whos heathcliff? the cartoon cat?

  • @xtallyx1 Oh, ok, the guy from Wuthering Heights.

  • Funny, at the 2:24 mark of the video, Michael drops his pick and looks like he mouths the word "Shit". Never noticed that before...

  • Thank you God for letting my a pre-adolescent boy in the 1980's. Amen.

  • @Bernankruptcy yep, for sure

  • This is one of my all-time favorites. The 1980s...parachute pants, Miami Vice, big hair, "banana" clips, crimped hair, and the Swatch watch. Madonna's "Like A Virgin" was bordering on the indelicate, where radio and tv is now filled with foul mouths and explicit sex talk.

  • l-o-v-e this song - and yes it does sound llike it was made yesterday when it brings back many memories from 80s 90s and 2000s hahah

  • Well, we now know which of the Penn brothers got all the talent.

  • @Hashmountain All of them other than Chris? (Rest in Peace)

  • The punker girl in this video is named Kim Kimko, I lost track of her in the 90s. She was a sweet girl.

  • MTV actually used to play this cool song quite a bit back in late '89. Heard it recently a few times at work, so here I am! I never got tired of this song when it was out, even though MTV ran stuff into the ground. Penn's follow-up single, "This and That" is another one I've always liked. Haven't heard these since '89 or '90, and it's nice to hear them again.

  • Wonder if he's as big a douche as his obnoxious brother?

  • here in Chile (far away from the States) I used to listen this song 89'/90', but I never saw the video and even sang it ignoring the name of the song and Michael.. . 20 year later I went to a meeting of dear old friends from school and this song was playing on the pub...! the story is real, No Myth at all..!

  • March...best of 89;

  • I just heard this in the check-out line at Publix. So here I am..

  • @DBRGroup Was at Bell's yesterday with Mom and heard this.

  • why cant this song be played more often on radio?.....one of the greater poetic songs of the late 80s early 90s.....

  • @Ericotheriault Apparently you should start shopping at Publix.

  • Shhit •••€took forever

  • !!!" Still love 3

  • Neither Michael Penn nor Aimee Mann are one hit wonders. Sheesh, do some research before disparaging these incredible artists.

  • Love!!!

  • he is married to another one-hit-wonder (aimee mann(til tuesday-voices carry))

    great memories

    great song

  • @aitken1971 I have a pic of Amiee on stage wearing a Triumph Worlds Fastest shirt. Love her and the shirt.

  • you can hear the matthew sweet in this

  • The hot girl upstairs kind of looks like Abby from NCIS....It's no myth.........

  • @Stratmandoin she reminds me of Becca on Californication

  • Sean Penn is his brother........who was married to Madonna around the time this came out. Good tune.........1 hit wonder.

  • Singer looks like Seth Meyers....the keyboardist looks like Fred Armisen. I smell a SNL skit soon.

  • @4320pHD you do realize this vid is old. SOng came out in 1989

  • is he related to Sean Penn? he kinda looks a little similar

  • @69DudeMeister They are brothers.

  • @69DudeMeister brothers

  • Great tune,original style unlike today's cookie

    cutter artists!

    Jman

  • What an evocative song of good memories... absolutely adore it and think of someone extremely special whenever I play it (which is often). To me the song and video are about the baggage that we bring into relationships from damaging life experiences or prior bad relationships. Both of these women in the video seem very unhappy despite the things that they have right in front of them (one of them has money, the other has a man).

  • @ponyboy314 but with a tad of Bradley Cooper as transmissionfilms says

  • Some songs from the 80's sound like they came from the 80's. This song still sounds like it was written yesterday. Why is it the one Penn brother with talent is the one nobody knows!!

  • @hoosrnight very well said,..and his the older Penn of them all..a very talented musician, the last song i;ve heard of Michael Penn was a Beatle song frm his brother's movie Sean Penn's "I Am Sam",..Brilliant!!!

  • @hoosrnight

You can't say no one knows. I know of their whole family and they all have talent and brought something into each and every one of our lives. To question what you said is dumb! Christopher Penn had Talent and I miss that guy. You have to watch what you say.

  • "What if I were romeo in black jeans" One of the great lines of all time in a song.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheTooz72 For the answer to that question, see "West Side Story".

  • @TheTooz72 Damn straight..When it came out I was havin a love tryst,(Like a lotta guys I spose) that nearly destroyed me and this song gave me some "Balls" dare I say it, to get off my kiester and not wallow that I'd been dumped..(Was wearin Black jeans alot back then..LOL)

  • Still love this song! Thank you Sirius Spectrum for playing it today. Hope you're still performing, Michael! ;)

  • Most Underrated Artist of all time! Love Mike Penn, Wish he would do more!

  • Great song

Great drum programming /samples for 1987

  • I love this video.....my youth calls to me with this song!!!!! I am still Romeo in black jeans:)) And I dance better now than when this song came out. I think it is my "I don't give a damn" attitude!!! Ha! Ha!

  • Wow always liked the girl who looks like Abby ...Oh yea GReat song !! who is she ?

  • Is it just me or does this song still sound fresh some 20 odd years later

  • I loved this song! Thanx 4 sharing. It's very Lennonesque or Dylanesque - either of which I dig.

  • 5 people don't have anyone to dance with.

  • thanks for uploading this video, i puting it in my fav.... video

  • Pick up Gaslight Anthem, then

  • The blonde chick looks kinda like my ex-wife...other than her hair was/is brown.

  • Who was the woman in the dress?

Loved how her panties were showing in the end. lol.

    Seriously...... Good song.

  • @MrUndieslover I preferred the cleavage shot. But yeah I agree great video.

  • Thanks so much for the upload. I love this song.

  • What the hell is the plot of this video? Can someone explain?

  • One of my favourite songs. Great tune, lyrics, and feel ! ... Wayne

  • Is that Pauly Perrette? !!

  • Michael Penn looks just like BJ Novak aka Ryan from The Office!

  • @mikeweit haha he does remind me of him.

  • Michael Penn in this video looks just like B J Novak aka Ryan from The Office!

  • Great song by a great songwriter/artist.

  • at 2:24 he says "shit " cause he dropped his guitar pick.

  • Maybe its just me, but this song and 'Me around" its like the Beatles if they were around late 80's .... Michael Penn underrated as the day is long.

  • Alway love listening to Michael Penn. Is he still married to Aimee Mann?

  • @JBiINNEK I'm guessing yes

  • Awesome song :)

  • Thank you so very much for this posting.

    Shalom!

  • I'd forgotten all about this song. Looking up Kate Bush reminded me. I love this song.

  • This is Sean Penn's little bro! Well i guess talent runs in the family.

  • @oporciuncula

True! Whole family is talented. Thought for awhile he was the little brother but he's actually older than Sean. Michael was born in '58 and Sean was born in '60. The late Chris Penn was the younger of the two born in '65

  • @eltravo2112 Thanks for making this clear.

  • This is my favourite song of all time. Even after all these years, this song makes me feel the exact same way I did when I first heard it. This is the perfect pop song, hands down!

  • One of the very first song my bf and I shared :) great memories and good times.

  • Makes me wish I was in love.

  • When was this song released? It has some 80's sound to it.

  • @jacobforlifeson It was released in 1989 :)

  • @bedspringkiss Haha thanks a bunch, I guess I have an ear for some 80's songs.

  • Didn`t know he was older than Sean, he looks more like 22 here than 32.

  • Happy 53rd to dear Mr. Penn. In the age of the One Hit Wonder, this was his single debut. Do yourself a favor and go "discover" the rest of his brilliant catalog...

  • This song kiks ass!

  • Nice song. What the heck does the video mean?

  • lol @ 2:23 "shit"

  • Nice big tits and panty shot @ 3:58

  • @n2motocross Gross dude. she's fugly

  • Very simple song...But forever untimeless song...A classic!!!!

  • Black jeans were very fashionable then too. I actually have this on original CD Single. Any offers? hehe

  • I knew this song from 22 years ago. I actually still have the Tape that was a single..Haha

For anyone that did not know..He is the Brother of Sean Penn and Chris Penn, haha Chris (R.I.P) from footloose, the best movie ever.

  • One of my all time favorite songs. I still can't believe this guy doesn't get more recognition for his great song writning ability. He definitely rates up there with John Lennon.

  • Great music and lyrics :)

  • Michael Penn sort of looks like Bradley Cooper.

  • @TransmissionFilms It's the other way around.

  • @TransmissionFilms Michael Penn is Sean Penn's older brother...

  • @TransmissionFilms I know that!

  • @TransmissionFilms Yeah but he also looks like Michael Imperioli (Chris Moltisanti of the Sopranos). he's the exact mix of the two.

  • @robbiinca Michael Imperioli...holy crap, I think you're right. Resemblance is uncanny...

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Amazing son, always thought so. He looks like a cross between Lindsey Buckingham and Split Enz-era Neil Finn! Which, hey, they both are awesome songwriters, so....

  • excellent song.

  • Mr. Aimee Mann :o)

  • Great video and great song...I really like the 'snow' effect at the end. For quite a long time this video was unavailable to watch online, so thanks for uploading it!

  • simply an amazing song!!! a shame the guy's not talked about much. what a superb sense of song-writing!!!!

  • I love this song have since it came out...ecept for his nose though he looks nothing like his brothers.

  • I have been a MP fan since the release of "March", but for some reason I have never seen this video. Great to finally see it. Thanks for uploading!

  • This was penn's only US top 40 hit but he has been well accomplished overseas. Sometimes I hear one-hit wonder or he is on a one hit wonder show. When I see these types of things I change the channel.

  • Hey! It's the guy from Boogie Nights! I never knew he was an actual musician!

  • @braddyboy82 You have a good eye. Boogie Nights was directed by PT Anderson, who is also responsible for the second Michael Penn video I uploaded.

  • @HQrip who is married to Aimee Mann, who wrote 'save me' which was oscar nominated for p.t. andersons film 'Magnolia'. All around goodtimes!

  • This is without question one of the most underrated songs of all time. It's timeless, and I too cannot stop listening to it...... Long live the 80's......

  • God, I have loved this song since I was 15 and I still can't stop listening to it!

  • this song is something beautiful and I am glad it was conceived in my life time.

  • Great song, excellent video as well.

  • When I first started playing guitar in the 7th grade I wanted to learn this song. My sister recorded this video onto a VHS tape from KDOC Request Video.

  • reminds me of staying up late on a schoolnight, listening to the radio and playing games on my commodore 64. good times.

  • A great 1989 hit song. My big favorite one from Michael Penn :)

  • The show was a few years ago but my friend made the comment last week.

  • He's just as good live as he is on his videos. I've seen him perform at the Ark in Ann Arbor twice. Just last week a friend of mine who had never heard of Michael Penn went to one of the shows with me and commented on how great he sounded.

  • He works behind the scene now. You'd be shocked at how many projects you probably love that he's been a part of. :-) I'm a fan and I think this was a great album.

  • The Penn family is pretty talented. Wow. I never realized Michael Penn sang this.

  • Awesome Song.

  • 3:35 - 3:50

  • Thanks for uploading this.

  • "...maybe she's just looking for

    someone to dance with...."!

  • Michael Penn was one of a rare breed. He wrote intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics steeped in complex imagery, and surrounded them with music that was just as intelligent and complex as the lyrics he sang. He created a record that was filled with more of those type of songs. He had a major hit with this track, then seemed to fade into the ether. Music like this is missed.

  • @silverpilot1979 Today is just empty a subjet

  • @silverpilot1979 he aint dead yet

  • @flowerdoodle I'm aware that he's not dead yet. My comment was about the music; it's MUSIC like this that is dead, not the person.

  • @silverpilot1979 You're certainly correct about the state of popular music. I mourn the general decay of the art form. My comment was sort of a joke in response to your comment; When I first started reading it, I thought for a split second that he had died due to your past tense reference.

  • @flowerdoodle Thank you. I honestly think that we need more songwriters like this; more MUSICIANS. The kids that have been spoonfed today's "pop" need to hear stuff like this. I'd take a real melody and guitar riff any day of the week over the BS being spouted out now. Sure; some of today's stuff is catchy and escapist, but I'd rather have REALITY. And I think a lot of people would agree.

  • @silverpilot1979 He's still around you know... His last album was fantastic.

  • @cromwellian13 Oh; I'm aware. What I meant by comment was that music like this is missed. I in no way meant that he was "gone", in any sense.

  • @silverpilot1979 It's a problem with your use of "was" instead of "is". Michael Penn IS one of a rare breed.

  • @silverpilot1979 He still makes wonderful music. No past tense!!

  • @rainking883 OK. It seems I have to explain myself again. In no way did I meant that HE was gone. My comment was simply a reflection on the fact that MUSIC of this nature is missed in the here and now. You don't hear stuff like this on the radio anymore, and the mere fact that music of this nature isn't played much (if at all) is credence to my comment.

  • @silverpilot1979 I feel the same way. Now we have Justin Bieber. Lord help us.

  • @silverpilot1979 You don't have to miss his music. Just buy the five or six other cds he's released since then. If you want to hear him, show some support.

  • @silverpilot1979 He still made music, but did not have the commercial success he did with this single. But a new generation heard his music when he did Walter Reid. House used it, and it many people looked up his music after that.

  • @sagman68 Thaty's EXACTLY what I was talking about. I wasn't talking about PENN, the artist. I was talking about the MUSIC, plain and simple. It's the MUSIC that is missed. I love hearing music that is so rich in melody, complex and subtle, well-arranged, etc. The only other singer-songwriter of that era (irrespective of genre) that can match Penn is Mary Chapin-Carpenter.

  • @silverpilot1979 Agreed. My bad for taking your comment too literally. I listen to his music weekly, and most of my playlists include something from him. The dude comes from a seriously talented family. Look at his little brother Sean...great actor, director, and humanitarian.

  • @silverpilot1979 My favorite musician for the past 20 years. If he released an album once a week I'd buy every one of them.

  • great song

  • Havn`t heard this in years. The albums pretty good too.

  • thank you for uploading this been looking for it all over on yt.

I love this song, strong memories

  • "we said goodbye before hello, my secrets she will never know." (thank god for those ones)

  • Always loved this song :)

  • @SherwoodKaye yeah, I just can't explain why.

  • Michael is one of the most under rated singers ever. Wow.I seem still impressed after all these years...lol.

  • drumbeat sounds like its from tears for fears...shout.

  • Wow, Zero dislikes you NEVER see that.

  • one of the best songs about a guy who loves a woman, but she only sees him as a person to have sex with.

  • AWSOME SONG!!!!!!

  • This song came with my ''90s Pop'' compilation album!!!!! ''This & That'' was also a cool single as well.

  • a classic in my book, the only book that counts to me

  • great song haunting melody make me think of past loves

  • BEST BEST BEST ONE OF DA BEST THANKSSSS!!!!

  • good song good upbeat

  • Michael is a tremendously underrated artist who has a lot of good music out. My favorite of his is "Foot Down" from "Days Since a Lost Time Accident"

  • Such an underrated artist. Great talent. I like all his work. I bet not many people even know him over here in England. I only discovered him through his soundtrack work for PT Anderson movies Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Hopefully he will get a decent break one day and become the international star he deserves to be.

  • Haven't heard this in years. I always thought it was faster for some reason. One of the better pop songs of the 90s, for sure.

  • Underrated and overshadowed by his younger brother never achieved the notoriety he deserved

  • Still a great song and cool video. Though I have never been able to figure it out. Suggestions?
