I always liked AMD as a company, they just seem a bit less commercial and I like that. Trouble is that their CPU's are just not upto competing with Intel in the market im interested in which is gaming geek rigs. There is no AMD solution to come close to my 2500k which I run at 4.8GHz. Thats a shame, and ill be more than happy to buy AMD in the future when they make something more competitive! (I do run AMD/ATi GPU atm).
I run AMD's E-350 (in the form of E35M1-I Deluxe) in my HTPC, and as mentioned in the video, it's an outstanding platform for that particular application. With Intel I'd most likely have to go with mATX, because their ITX solutions simply aren't as good. For my desktop I'm still using Intel's C2D E8500 OC'd. I don't use CPU intensive applications, and most games I play are much more dependent on the GPU.
To me, the outcome in the video rings true: different strokes for different folks. :)
Well does intel processors multitask better than AMD? Cause I am running a pehenom II 550 black dual core and it doesnt multitask like a Core 2 duo, it freezes up when I try to do more things as simple as 2 videos to another HDD! and running the net at the same time it freekes a bit and is super slow, I am running Gigabyte mobo with 4gigs 1333mhz ddr3 and an ole 9600gso vid card,,, Any thoughts, I am thinking Celeron Dual core sandy bridge upgrade?
AMD six core(yes instead of the bulldozer) because is more cost effective for my budget decent enough gaming PC and since it comes unlocked its easier for me to just OC'd that processor and get a bit of extra performance for my money besides the AMD radeon VGA cards are more cost effective as well they are not as high performing as Nvidia but they get close enough at a lower cost
I like both of them but personally if I am going to build a new computer I will go with AMD because of their new CPUs you can buy one graphic card and crossfire that with your CPU(APU) instead of buying the second graphic card. Another thing is by chosing AMD I can get the same performance without spending more.
I like intel better because i had an amd athlon x 64 processor in the past and i had al sorts of failires so now i have an intel i3 (3.20 Ghz) dual core processor and i have sucessfuly overclocked it up to 4.18 Ghz and runs really great + i like the intel logo much more and the box which comes processor in is nicer :P so yes I LIKE INTEL and i am happy with it :)
I'm going to build my first system quite soon, and I'm 99% sure I'm going to use an AMD core. Reason being that I'm aiming for the cheapest of cheapest system there is, whichcan still be used as a gaming rig, and the AMD core seems to be a bit less expensive overall.
i both have intel and amd! i prefer the amd! the difference is unnoticeable, really! and the start up of my amd computer is more faster than my intel o.o
I love my AMD procesor. I didn't need to buy a new one when upgrading from AM2+ to AM3+ motherboard. Upgrading "Intel PC" means a new mobo + procesor. Upgrading "AMD PC" means a new mobo. :-)
Hey guys im buing a gaming pc but for a budget so i cant afford anything that good so should i buy a 60 dollar amd processor or an intel i3 .or something like that with 100 dollars
@extremeons well idk if you know what this is but at microcenter in the store they are having a killer sale. you can get a new amd fx quad core and a free mobo. so 100 bucks for both.
@bob101125 What? You do realize that Intel proccesors are also unlocked? My i5 is unlocked for example and overclocked to 3.8 GHz.And AMD is better for gaming??Since when? You have video on this channel or in his personal channel where he compares Intel and AMD and where Intel crushed AMD.
it all depends on what you prefer and your budget aswell. as you see amd give good cpus for the money but are overcloaked and less likely to outlive a intel cpu as intel underclock there cpus. but intel cpus are sometime 3x times as much to buy as a amd.
@RibaFish66 But you do not understand. It is the price that MAD100007 is concerned about. The two products he is comparing clearly has a winner for value. The AMD. Not that it is better from pure statistics but that it is more affordable.
@SirCrumpetMuncher Yes i agree. But if you want performance you go Intel not AMD.And i see a lot of people claiming that AMD is better because they first released 8 core processor.
my thoughts: rich=Intel Budget= amd. i prefer amd because i am on a tight budget and i was able to get a better heat sink from the money i dint spend.
I chose AMD. And its quite simple really as to why. Price to performance ratio. Period.
I run a Phenom II X4 970 OC'd to 4.0 Ghz. I have found for my personal needs that this CPU will accomplish every single thing I want it to do with blazing performance. And because it is an AMD product, It cost me a fraction of the cost of an Intel CPU.
Even if I had the money for Intel, I see absolutely no reason to buy their chips at their price range when AMD offers an unnoticeable performance difference.
And other thing, the AMD processor on the video has 6 phisical cores and 6 threads = 6 virtual cores, the core i7 on the video has 4 phisical cores and 8 threads = 8 virtual cores.
ASUS based intel core processor PC, i made a computer for music production, Core i3, 4GB Ram DDR3, 500GB HHD 6GB/s and ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard ( graphics integrated on processor, intel HD 2000), i prefer intel core i3 or i7 cause i know, my i3 has 2 cores, but wait, it has 4 Threads, AMD phenom II has 6 cores but 6 threads too, so, it's unreliable for me. For multitasking, midi and audio processing i need a processor that supports hyperthreading, that's my opinion.
almost everyone has a budget often to only buy a high end amd but there are cases with people witch do afford intel they might say its better but amd is cheaper so you can make crazier mods on your case and the intel dudes can only buy the basic stuff so in my oppinion amd is better because its cheeeeeeeeeaaaap and with the money over you can mod the computer
@kevinhykuo1 yes there is, years ago there was a pci card with amd or intel socket, you could ad them to any machine amd or intel, and use the mix of cpus, with no problem
i went with amd because if the great price point. im currently running an athlon 2 x2 250, i got this chip for 60 dollars about a year ago and am currently running it at 3.7GHZ (stock 3GHZ) with a cooler master hyper tx3 cooling it and it idles at 26 to 28c ( this is because of my fan setup) i have a 120 mm fan pulling in air thru the 5.25in drive bays that really helps alot. also im running 12 gigs of ddr3 at 1333mhz with a over clocked 9500 gt 32 core edition.
@alinthebest and is mac good....... no it has very many errors with gaming i once played at the top of the line mac computer not a mackbook but a stationary one and my personal rig is better for about 800 dollars and the mac costed 3500 dollars thats WHY APPLE SUCK THEY ARE TO EXPENSIVE AND NOT GOOD FOR GAMING!! thats all that matters to me if i can play all the games i want
amd, cheaper and you get alot for the low price. If you just play games and suft the web.. But also I like that its a bit more easy to build amd systems since there are less restrictions on ram ect. and its cheaper to build your computer. My next computer will be amd im finished with intel its to expensive vs what you get. and SLI/crossfire, is a waste of money. Only buy the cards like amd 6990 where you have 2 gpu on the same card rather than 2 cards.
I have only been with AMD, they have always put out good quality products. But i cant argue against Intel because of that. I give intel mad respect for putting out cutting edge microprocessors, but i do love AMD for their stable products at such a great price.
wanted computer for software developement nad games, I am a student, so budgget was issue, now run AMD X4 970 @ 4GHz (4,2 Ghz max stable) absolutely satisfied....
I'm a gamer and i also use alot of Photoshop, Cinema 4D, Sony Vegas and After Effects. plus the general running around the internet and stuff and im running an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T OC'd @ 3.4GHz. Its fantastic! the speed is FEROCIOUS! coupled with 16Gb RAM and a ROG CH IV motherboard and im upgrading from GTX295 to AMD 6870 CF soon.
AMD, for me, offer the best bang for your buck! you also get the ultra wide compatibility base. and temps... i dont know, its water cooled so its COLD! AMD FTW!
I would use AMDs for HTPCs more because their products tend to be smaller for that specific type of use. on the other hand, I would use an Intel CPU for machines where I like more power for video or graphical editing simply because they run faster in for that regards. Not that AMD lacks the power to do so, but I just find Intel products a little better on that regard although AMD CPUs have more appealing prices for a budget builder.
I will go with AMD ...even if i have an intel ....why....because you have a bigger range of upgrades even in the low budget motherboards ( ddr3....4 or 2 slots , the AM3 or AM3+ Socket...any cpu with am3 and am3+) .....and that is all i think...And for the intel...is more complicated....to many sockets ...different motherboards ......What i what to say is that you can upgrade from a low budget cpu to a mid end or high end cpu with the AMD.
Only true valid response to this video, what company holds the world record for the fastest cpu clock speed of 8.429GHz? That is correct, that would be AMD.
@PsykoWaffle Because clock speed is everything, right? I don't care about my architecture of course. By the way, Intel are good if you have the money, if you need value it's not like AMD CPU's "dont work", they're better for the price.
Great video Linus, but there's a reason you choose Intel for your personal build, you know fine Intel CPUs are better! I'm no fanboy, I'd love an AMD CPU if they made a serious competitor to Intel, but as it happens their CPUs are consistently outperformed by Intel solutions. I find this be rather odd though because AMD are excellent when it comes to GPUs, why not CPUs?? = /
@dozzpollen Don't get me wrong, there are many (as you've stated in the video) valid reasons for choosing AMD over Intel, but in sheer performance, it's obvious which solution wins out!
I used to like AMD, then bulldozer released and didn't really compete with Intel's chips which were like 8 months older. Seriously why do people even buy bulldozer computers? Is an eight core PC really that exciting?
@PlayingThisGame i have a bulldozer cpu and it is amazing i do not want intel at all why pay £800 for the same spec as an £80 amd proccessor that runs at the same speed?? and yes an 8 core cpu is exciting a lot faster then what you have
There's no real reason to waste money on a Bulldozer chip. If you have a motherboard already compatible with it, you'd be better off with an "old" Phenom II x6. If you are building a new system you'd be better off with the i5 2500k, which has both amazing performance and a sweet price point.
@jinxedmodder I just built a brand new pc with an I5 2500k. It is the most amazing processor I have ever used. It blows everything else Ive seen out of the water and I haven't even overclocked it yet.
@rorysory95 Sorry mate, going to have to disagree with that statement. I own an FX 8120. It's my main gaming processor, and it's what I'm using at this very second. My brother owns an i7 920. The GPUs are about the same (GTX 460 sli vs. GTX 570). His 920 outperforms my FX in the majority of games.
@PlayingThisGame Well I'm more than well aware that Intel chips have way better performance than AMD but the only reason I'm using AMD is because intel chips are way more expensive X_X.
@Dashadvent I would agree with you but since Sandy Bridge(and hopefully Ivy Bridge) they have been cheap enough for people on lower budgets and they are pretty comparable to AMD chips on price/performance.
@PlayingThisGame Its not even 8 cores. The dumbed down explanation is that it's 4 cores divided into 2 sub cores each. Thats why bulldozer gets its ass kicked by the Phenom x6 and the intel 2500k
@rahmanroni They advertise as eight cores, and isn't it actually that it's four modules that each contain two cores but share cache? When I talked about eight cores I was referring more to normal consumers who would buy a prebuilt computer with a low end or no dedicated graphics card and just a processor to hold it up.
I have had both AMD and Intel, and I figured out a long time ago that they both work just as hard and produce just about the same results. Get which ever fits your budget better.
for processing data, editing, go for Intel, for gaming AMD is good. if you want gaming for intel you need i-series intel cpu coz they actually shifted to direct memory architecture. for old intel with FSB, it sucks for games, there a moment of freeze, amd would be better!
data processing and gaming, intel i-series will be best!
I have both an Intel Core i7 2600K and AMD 6 Core 1090T. I love both of them. For video editing I use Intel and Adobe Premier. For Server applications and Virtual Machines I use AMD. I can game on both of them but my best card (AMD 6870) is on the Intel vs the AMD 6850 that is on the AMD rig.
What do you consider budget computer i am looking to build a brand new ultra gaming rig for about 1600$ all i know is i have had the same X4 Phenom for 4 years now it still runs great and fast but the card the power supply and ram are just old so feel free to comment on a comment and help me out here no fan-boys please i am coming into my first PC build with an open mind And i plan on using this for Graphic design some video editing mainly gaming though so any discussion or help would be great
I prefer AMD as it has a lower price point, and since home computer gets obsolete in 3 years I can replace it cheaply. I do not have power user applications.
I have heard that AMD cpu over time lose performance versus an Intel. For a small business (which does not replace their computers that often) - Intel has always been a solid performer in all business applications.
i built a gaming rig with amd fx-6100 for less than $800, i like amd because they are all 64 bit, i do believe that means that they run more stuff in a shorter time.
Going to buy an Intel I5-2500k CPU soon, it's going to run perfectly every high end game I mean to play, plus it's pretty easy to overclock too. I feel like you have much more choice with Intel but I have to say that I only bought Intel CPUs for a while. I prefer Intel over AMD but that's only a personal choice!
I PREFER AMD AND VIDEO CARD IS NOT A PROBLEN BECAUSE ATI = AMD HAS SOME KILLER CARDS OUT THERE LIKE THE 7990 IF YOU RUN 2 OF THESE BABYS IN CROSSFIRE AND YOU CAN KICK ANY INTEL SOLUTION FOR LESS MONEY,YEAHH ALL REDUCE TO THE BUDGET FOR SURRE IF YOU HAS THE MONEY RUN INTEL BE MY GUEST
I got an AMD processor because I had experience with both processors, and I always had issues with Intel, I got an Phenom II X6 1100T now and I can't complain. Btw, I'm a gamer :D
@zzscz Same here, only problem I have with the 1100T is when running PCSX2, but that's cause the coders are Intel fanboys and only optimize the emulator for Intel stuff.
@jockeyl4d2 Nope, IBM's PowerPC7(G7) poops in you face
Really? Intel i7 with 64 GB RAM and maxed at 4 cores and 3.2Ghz vs IBM PowerPC 16000 GB DDR3 and 1024 cores.
Which one? Huh, if Apple stuck with IBM, we would have PowerPC5 and new modules, the reason old PPC macs suck is all the old parts(PC3200, slow HDD) trust me I upgrade them, plus 7 is for big ass machines, 6 is for high end servers, and 5 is for PCs+most servers and 5(undervolted) is for laptops. Now who's better? IBM?
These graphics cards will be obsolete for gaming when atom floating point technology is perfected in the next 2 years or so. It can run on pure SOFTWARE! the shittiest computer can play a game that looks better than anything out now. Polygon technology is going to go the way of the dinosaurs. That is...IF these big companies don't crush atom graphics tech before it comes out. Kinda like what JP Morgan did to Tesla. Think about it.
@WhiteZilla117 I got off a customer service call with Intel with them trying to convince me that there is no 8 core processor on the market, with that being said by a "professional" intel employee I will never purchase another intel chip
I used to like AMD over Intel, but only recently have I purchased a laptop with an Intel Core i3-2330 @ 2.20 Ghz and I have noticed a remarkable difference in overall performance.
Intel is like a turbocharged rocket while AMD is more Sidewinder Missile. As the past decade passed Intel has always been ahead of AMD as far as being balls to the walls outright don’t care about anyone else gonna fight hard to be on the top all the time, kinda like high school jocks or Marines. All muscle no brains. AMD is more suttle, notice how the company adapted to the economy with new inexpensive and yet powerful architectures?
Sadly though the word enthusiast and AMD don’t mix as well as Intel does. I believe the user should write down what he wants to see in his upcoming pc and make an intelligent decision on all of the pc parts, if money is an issue which is the majority. If money is no object the sky is the limit and most likely you will have a high end Intel machine with Nvidia cards and the latest extreme ROG mobo with 8 SSD's for example. Am I wrong??
I have always liked the AMD sins i hade my first PC, and AMD is very good in the category price.
and Intel is good if you are going for the higther FPS and performens at all games.

AMD FTW!

INTEL - suck shit .. price is too high for that you get few FPS more in game !!!!!!

Endless scenarios, no real answer :)

HaveSomeQuark 4 days ago

PsykoWaffle 5 days ago
@PsykoWaffle Because clock speed is everything, right? I don't care about my architecture of course. By the way, Intel are good if you have the money, if you need value it's not like AMD CPU's "dont work", they're better for the price.
Smt923 5 days ago
Great video Linus, but there's a reason you choose Intel for your personal build, you know fine Intel CPUs are better! I'm no fanboy, I'd love an AMD CPU if they made a serious competitor to Intel, but as it happens their CPUs are consistently outperformed by Intel solutions. I find this be rather odd though because AMD are excellent when it comes to GPUs, why not CPUs?? = /
dozzpollen 5 days ago
@dozzpollen Don't get me wrong, there are many (as you've stated in the video) valid reasons for choosing AMD over Intel, but in sheer performance, it's obvious which solution wins out!

I dont prefer either, but this video was great for info.

Simmsmanx84 5 days ago
I used to like AMD, then bulldozer released and didn't really compete with Intel's chips which were like 8 months older. Seriously why do people even buy bulldozer computers? Is an eight core PC really that exciting?
PlayingThisGame 6 days ago 15
@PlayingThisGame i have a bulldozer cpu and it is amazing i do not want intel at all why pay £800 for the same spec as an £80 amd proccessor that runs at the same speed?? and yes an 8 core cpu is exciting a lot faster then what you have
rorysory95 6 days ago
@rorysory95
Price of a 8-core BD CPU- 249.99USD
Price of the 4-core i5 2500k- 229.99USD
Which costs less? The i5
Which preforms better consistently? The i5
There's no real reason to waste money on a Bulldozer chip. If you have a motherboard already compatible with it, you'd be better off with an "old" Phenom II x6. If you are building a new system you'd be better off with the i5 2500k, which has both amazing performance and a sweet price point.
jinxedmodder 5 days ago
@jinxedmodder I just built a brand new pc with an I5 2500k. It is the most amazing processor I have ever used. It blows everything else Ive seen out of the water and I haven't even overclocked it yet.

@rorysory95 Sorry mate, going to have to disagree with that statement. I own an FX 8120. It's my main gaming processor, and it's what I'm using at this very second. My brother owns an i7 920. The GPUs are about the same (GTX 460 sli vs. GTX 570). His 920 outperforms my FX in the majority of games.

DayLight95 4 days ago
@PlayingThisGame Well I'm more than well aware that Intel chips have way better performance than AMD but the only reason I'm using AMD is because intel chips are way more expensive X_X.
Dashadvent 4 days ago
@Dashadvent I would agree with you but since Sandy Bridge(and hopefully Ivy Bridge) they have been cheap enough for people on lower budgets and they are pretty comparable to AMD chips on price/performance.
PlayingThisGame 4 days ago
@PlayingThisGame Its not even 8 cores. The dumbed down explanation is that it's 4 cores divided into 2 sub cores each. Thats why bulldozer gets its ass kicked by the Phenom x6 and the intel 2500k
rahmanroni 3 days ago
@rahmanroni They advertise as eight cores, and isn't it actually that it's four modules that each contain two cores but share cache? When I talked about eight cores I was referring more to normal consumers who would buy a prebuilt computer with a low end or no dedicated graphics card and just a processor to hold it up.

dragnridr05 6 days ago
for processing data, editing, go for Intel, for gaming AMD is good. if you want gaming for intel you need i-series intel cpu coz they actually shifted to direct memory architecture. for old intel with FSB, it sucks for games, there a moment of freeze, amd would be better!
data processing and gaming, intel i-series will be best!

I have heard that AMD cpu over time lose performance versus an Intel. For a small business (which does not replace their computers that often) - Intel has always been a solid performer in all business applications.

Bat8hitcrazy 1 week ago

Sadly though the word enthusiast and AMD don’t mix as well as Intel does. I believe the user should write down what he wants to see in his upcoming pc and make an intelligent decision on all of the pc parts, if money is an issue which is the majority. If money is no object the sky is the limit and most likely you will have a high end Intel machine with Nvidia cards and the latest extreme ROG mobo with 8 SSD's for example. Am I wrong??
