It's not enough to say that "we are supposed to be a Republic not a Democracy." That's almost babble. What do we mean? Why is democracy wrong?

The point is, a Constitutional Republic has LIMITS and ground rules, not *only* popular will. If we're avg people, we WANT democracy, not plutocracy, oligarchy, aristocracy.

But democracies usually become "elite rule" anyhow. Without hard ground rules (Constitution, Bill of Rights), elites tend to do what they want and call it "popular will".
