  • deve ser muito difícil tocar !

  • Where can i get sheet music for this etude

  • I miss playing the marimba. If only I could afford one...and had the space.

  • That piece was awesome until the very end where it just cut o---

  • these ignorant people need to stop judging by your looks.

They're just jealous because you actually have TALENT. You really do.

this is an amazing solo and we can all tell you worked really hard.

  • Looks like you practiced a lot...

  • Do you have one of those huge things in your house or do you have to go to a studio to practice?

  • This solo is so great, especially if your marimba has a great low end. I learned this piece a few years ago as a doctoral student. I don't consider myself a marimbist, but I've played some serious stuff. Etude in A min is perhaps the hardest marimba piece I've ever played. It is pretty short, but I wouldn't try it out unless you've got some time on your hands to work out some of the parts.

  • why does he have pony tails in his or her hair?!

  • Is it possible to major in jazz vibes/marimba. I want to major in music and i play sax but i really want to switch or pick up vibes. I'm already a junior in highschool, are they really hard to learn?

  • @CaseyCangelosi It is nothing personal, just a taste for different aesthetics in music and composition. You are a killer player. I'm glad that you have found a niche that you can be successful in.

  • HE'S FRIGGIN GOOD!

  • @AdsyFB97 A chick, genius, totally a chick

  • @CaseyCangelosi Well its obvious that hes a guy. a girl couldnt do this... ;) lolol

  • @AdsyFB97 He's obviously a women.

  • are you a dude?

  • really?...come on...will somebody please write better music for this instrument. When 98% of the literature is crap, one would think it is easy to avoid that...maybe not.

  • @armswim10 thats.. weird man. this an etude. He just wanted some type of monster of a piece. i am guessing you wrote this before you listened to his other works.

  • Comment removed

  • @armswim10 no actually i dont like winning more then performing i love performing. and the way i see it assuming makes an ass out of ume and not me. i love his work. but if you dont why be a jerk about it. go tell it to some one else who cares because know one here will care. i just thought you might have not heard all of his stuff but its what ever.

  • @paradiddlepedro Let's agree to disagree. Good luck finding an opportunity outside of a college to perform something like this...

  • Lmfao axe =guitar because it has the same shape of an axe, you look like a cock calling a tank of a marimba an axe.

  • Freaking amazing.

  • What kind of mallets are the ones your using?

  • rediculously good!!

  • @CaseyCangelosi otherwsie known as f***en ridiculous

  • Wtf are you at like Juilliard or Eastman or in a symphony? Your like a machine (I mean that in a good way : P)

  • This guy kick some serious ass...Inspires me to go practice.Thank you sir!

  • I enjoyed your etude and your playing.

  • Great etude and playing!

  • I LOVE IT!!!!! ^^

  • this so cool i wish more people played tuned percussions. i guess i should start. how much are good vibrophones or marimbas

  • I have always been impressed by the use of four mallets on marimba. I don't care who you are, we are talking about some serious eye/hand coordination!

  • This may be the best marimba solo I've ever heard.

  • I just want to say, you're unreal!!!!! i am jealous of your skills!

  • daamn how much crack were you smoking? this is insane!

  • woo. Damn.

  • hey Casey. im starting now at marimba. its my first year. but i really dont know were to start and how to study. any advice?...

  • GREAT Performance....musical, accuracy unreal, good luck with your career

  • Good little axe?

  • @AndreasBergset axe/instrument :)

  • Comment removed

  • Which marimba are you playing on? It looks fantastic and sounds great. What is the lowest tone? C1 or C2? - andreas

  • @AndreasBergset Hi, it's a Marimba One and a good little axe. C2, same range as the cello :)

  • Ou est la musique ?......

  • Thats what I need to work on is double mallets.

  • Finissimo!

  • fantastic!

  • Truly Amazing. I hope to be this good some day.

  • Wow, I guess this is Marimba1?? :D:D sounds perfect :D

  • amazing performance!

  • talk about insane!

  • hey, thanks very much!

Stevens and Musser are both segregated grips (the mallet shafts don't touch), as opposed to cross grips (mallet shafts cross under the palm) like Burton and Traditional. The big difference between Musser and Stevens is the thumb position, thus (and more importantly) the pivoting direction of the wrist. The thumb nail in Stevens' is facing up, the thumbs in Musser face inward at each other.

  • In general, Stevens' wrist breaks like a French timpani grip, where as the Musser breaks like a matched or German timpani grip. My grip is more Musser then Stevens, that type of wrist movement just makes a lot more sense to me. :)

  • was that b flat(?) at the very end the last note or did some get cut off? sounds awesome though!

  • you're using the musser/stevens grip, right? and what brand of marimba are you playing on?

  • yes, Musser really. This is a Marimba One. :)

  • fantastic, truely. I tried to learn that grip several years ago, yet could not grip and spread with ample control. I applaude your hard work, you are a wonderful performer and musican ( and not everyone can do both). I love the sound from the Marimba One marimbas. So warm and reverberating that one can feel it from the mallets to the bones. :)

  • epic technique. Great stuff!

  • are you playing 2 octave cromatic scales with one hand. Thats what it looks like. So awesome!

  • Man why.....whats the point. I don't see anyone playing this for a recital.

  • You do not always have to play a full song for a recital...it is a practice to perform etudes for recitals to

  • do you give clinics?

  • i do, we should talk about it if you or school are interested.

  • do you have an email we can comunicate through? that way we can talk about it in debt. by the way, my name is juan vasquez

  • will you be going to PASIC?

  • what mallets would you recomend for characters 1 and 2

  • Hey,

something soft and graduated for 1 -like Encore NZ 2-6 or so. I used medium cord for the no. 2. Something hard and articulate.

  • i dont think this solos sounds great enough for the amount of work it looks like you put into it

  • What is the furthest interval you spread in this piece?

  • It's a one handed roll on a nasty 11th -e to g#.

    :)

  • This is really fantastic

  • hey, do you sell sheet music for your pieces?

  • fantastic...watching you play makes me wanna practice

  • ummmm stevens.... what the heck do you use??

  • closer to a Musser grip really. :)

  • what kind of grip are you using?

  • omg so very awesomely played!

  • awesomeee

  • What kinds of mallets are those? They sound versatile as hell.

  • Hi - is this published? Greg

  • ultimatum has a really dark melody if you listen closely.

  • Me encanto!!! de verdad que admiro a los percusionistas!!!

  • This piece looks challenging, however, to me, it falls into the category of the "melody-less/modern" like zivkovic's "ultimatum". lol.

Still pretty cool, and great technique.

  • Why does it need a melody to be good?

  • @zenrarity you r right it doesnt need one. but that just happened to have one and whoever said it didnt, doesnt know what theyre talking about

  • yeah!!... very nice man...

  • ROCK ON...ROCK ON!

    love this composition.

    well done.

    perfect mallet control!

    peace.

    vasyL

    water sceince

  • damn!... nice

  • Do you use graduated mallets?

  • I do. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Interesting! Very in the "today" in my opinion.

I think I'll probably check this out.

  • you rock.

  • i know its gonna take me a while to learn this but where can i buy your solo?

  • head to the website in the description. glad you like the piece

  • love it !

    keep working ;)

bdw how long do you play ?

  • Wow!! This is an awesome solo... definitely going on my "play someday" list!

  • hi. how much longer is the solo?

  • that is actually it, very short. The last chord on this video was cut off on the original take...drag.

  • Wow.....wtf!!! Thats the spirit!!! Compose and extremely hard marimba solo that can only be performed if you have the mallets skills of a god!!! Way to go lol....oh by the way, I like it lol

  • Are those encore mallets?

  • yep. Nancy Zeltsman 3s and a Nanae Mimura in the bass

  • hey how do u hold those intervals (over an octave) without your hand cramping up

  • It's just plain hard. It will feel really crampy and uncomfortable, which is ok, you just need to realize pain vs discomfort. Be uncomfortable but not in pain. There is a particularly large 10th, E-G#, you must keep your hand very low to the keys, I was actually smacking my hand on the marimba to make that roll work. Hope that helps

    later,

    Casey

  • Thanks anyways I love your compositions I'm going to purchase them after the audition season is over though haha. I was just wondering because I have to record myself playing snare and marimba and xylo and timpani for prescreening DVD's and I was planning on buying a mac book pro which has a built in camera and mic but I dont know how good that is. Thanks Again hope to talk to you soon about your compositions.

  • nothing super fancy. The camera had an attached mic, though I never knew the model. sorry...

  • Hey, I see you go to the Boston conservatory. Do you know Kieth Aleo? He's such a great guy.

  • yeah I had lessons with Keith. I've since graduated but am always missing it. later

  • Thanks for the video. It helps. I have to play it for All Distric. Hopefully I get in the top 5 out of the 3 counties competing. It helps me to see someone else play it because I have trouble finding the notes by myself.

    Thanks again

    YOU HAVE MAD SKILLS!

  • thanks Kelly and best of luck!

  • Amazing! I want to be like you when I grow up and I'm 35. What mallets are you using? They sound great. Can any of your compositions be played on a low E?

  • Hey, thanks for the post. For the most part they're on a 5, but there are a few that fit on a low A and low F. The website will tell you what pieces fit on what. Enjoy,

    Casey

  • Hate to be that guy, but what mallets are you using?

  • in the first bar, how do you play the octave A after the C major 3rd chord, bit tricky for me, by the way georgous sounding marimba, i love the marimba one range. by the way where can i get the piece?

  • I land in the octave with mallets 1+3, this puts you in a convenient position for the run. The sticking I like for the run is: 3/1 2 3 2 3 2 4 2 3 2 3 2 3 2. This way there is only one manual shift and only for one hand, the right hand moves from its first few white notes (just A,E) then stays on black notes for the rest of the run. So, the right hand path is simply: A\E/Bb/Db\Bb\Ab\Gb.

hope that helps, you can find the music at the website in right corner description.

    -Casey

  • Nice , Seems so easy when you've got the sticking correct, i was playing the C/E chord with 2and3 and the octave with 1 and 4 then i simply play the first part of the run as an arpeggio beetween mallets. thanks for the help man.

  • In the first bar where you have the A Octave immediatly after the c major 3rd and then a arpeggio of A Minor, how do you play it yourself, cos i've been playing the octave with my left hand and i know its wrong, by the way how can i get the entire piece of sheet music, and are there any others? excellent playing

  • in the first bar where you have the octave A's immediatly after the C major 3rd, how do you play that to get into the A minor run?

    awsome piece by the way!!

  • You are freakin' phenomenal!!!!! I am truly awed by your talent. Both playing and composing. Hats off to you, sir!

  • i don't care how long you've been playing, being that good should be a felony.

  • dude ur sick ive been serching for ever for some one to do some really insane piece like this but dude how the hell do u do those runs with one hand its when ur doing cromatics omg perfect dude ur the best man hey dude where can i get this peice id love to play it?

  • sure, head to the website in the video description to order. My email is posted at the site. Thanks, I'm glad you like the piece.

  • neuroticca personified.

  • ok slow down Abe, seriously

wow, grad student I hope, if not I'm way behind

this is a phenominal peice it really is, quite amazing, so who wrote it?

  • thanks, I'm glad you like it. It is my own composition

  • good god thats just intense, well I mean it might be first glance perspective but that was really different writing

so where do you attend, and I'd probably like to get this music from you/purchase

  • I'm a student at Rice University. Visit the web site in the description above by the title, there are sample pages along with my other pieces at the site. thanks again,

    Casey

  • so I can get the music from you???

  • sure, what is your email?

  • lol this is sick nasty

omg i dont know of anyone who would ever play like this

    wow, your unbelivably good

  • Alright,I think you are absolutely a phenominal player, but! Do you know of anyone else that can even play this?! It just looks soo unbelievably difficult. I'm a percussionist, in highschool. I'm alright playing with 4 mallets. I'm not that best, but i haven't been studying that long and i can't even fathom anyone being able to play this. It doesn't even look real when you playit.

    Brava. -Joe

  • seroiusly, you're like one of the most amazing if not THE most amazing percussionist i've ever seen.

  • Hello,Cangelosi.i have already sent a email to you..please check.i want to buy this note...

    cheers

    Danny

  • nice tehnique

  • you consistently nail all the long reaches as if they're nothing!!! GREAT work.

  • My wife said she played on a drum line with you at Utah State and showed me your stuff. I'm also a percussionist, but not like that! Nice work.

  • Greatest player in the world.

  • Great job, keep up the great work!

  • wow i am speechless..wow!

  • this is truly stunning, love it. I would like to hear a slow piece sometime though.

  • Very very great! You're technique was great throughout the entire piece, the piece itself sounded great, and you kept the whole thing under control. Great job.

  • Hold crap man that kicked my ass!

  • this is a pretty intense piece of music. It looks like your note accuracy and rhythm are beyond superb, but your notes are lacking clarity and tone. I think if you took some time to play it slow and listen to each note produce a full tone, this would sound SO much better.

Really amazing dexterity/ability going on here. Are you studying anywhere?

  • i think part of the problem here is the recodring quality because it sounds much better when i have heard it live. =) it you want to hear some other casey recordings check out caseycangelosi dot com.

  • Awesome. Been playing long? I'm an aspring music major, but im just graduating out of high school.

  • You're such a tool. Why would you ever play with hair like that? Also, you missed a note in the second minute at some point, and your time wasn't that good on some of the one handed stuff. you're obviously really fucking stupid, you should probably have played oboe.

  • thanks Ian, those among the most poetic mature words I've even known you to produce (that's a fancy way of explaining to the world that you're a toolbag). Love ya anyway.

  • lol funny you should label such a piece as a mere etude....sounds alot harder than any other studies i know!

  • this has GOT to be a joke.

Amazing, Casey. I'll trade you a haircut for some marimba lessons :)

  • Too late, I already cut it. =)

  • Very fluid motion! I need to go practice...

  • Dude why are you usin that big wooden vibraphone? Where's the pedal? Christ.

  • I love your hair style!!!! A lot.

    Freak.

  • your etude is so cool, i can't wait for your duo!

  • nice..you're very quick, even with 4 mallets...what type are they anyway? they sounded good..nice job

  • Thanks man! The top three are Encore Nancy Zeltsman mallets and the low one is a Nanae Mimura. Glad you did it.

  • Sweet man, I know nothing about marimba to say anything about your skills but it sounded seemless and articulate to me.

  • thank you very much!
