One of the guitar players is my father in law!!!!!! He has since passed on but I know he would appreciate your kind comments! Mr. Frank "Silk" Smith 7/8/45- 5/12/09
This is some heavy post Hendrix, proto Black Rock coalition type music. I have always been fascinated by this group ever since i discovered them a couple of years ago and especially with the three armed Black woman with the globes in her hands. i am going to to get this album cd on ebay next month.
Enough of the labels... The media divided rock and roll, gave Black people "funk" and white people "rock". Rock lives while funk is a 70s thing, played out like bell-bottoms and afro-combs. Funkadelic, Band of Gypsies, Ohio Players, Black Merda...etc will play LedZep off the stage. This is rock and roll, plain and simple. Let's call it what it is!
Amazing. Never heard of them but they really should have been huge. Raw, powerful, infectious, hard and straight from the heart. In other words: real. What a gem!
I was just looking around for info about the bass player, Del Moran, who I thought toured a few years ago with a Spanish rocker I kinda like, but instead ran into this ride that blew mi mind!
My mother was the only female in the group pictured above.. and my father was the drummer... I'm on the hunt other pics of the entire group...stay tuned
Damn this is sick. I wish more brothaz would go back to the psycadelic funk soul shit. Its a genre of music thats never really been explored. Damn this shit is no fucking joke. BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED 2 BRING MUSIC BACK!!! i Know every body is tired of hearing how wack pop radio music is today but SHIT, THIS SHIT HERE IS DA TRUTH!! BeyondBodyAndSoul good lookn!!!
It's just too bad there is no money in this kind of music. People like Jay Z, Puff and Master P could easily fund a hundred or more of these type of bands but wouldn't make money back on it so they don't. Instead they make clothes and colognes. :-/
the sad thing is you're right. but I think the big problem could be in marketing. i think record companies would be confused in how to market a group like that.
This picture was taken in Cleveland, Ohio in front of the old Liberty Theatre.
