The most common symptoms of essential thrombocythemia include headache, lightheadedness, vision changes, and tingling, numbness or burning pain in the hands and feet. Essential thrombocythemia most often occurs in people over age 50 and is more common in women.
Essential thrombocythemia (ET) is an uncommon disorder in which your body produces too many blood platelets (thrombocytes). It's also known as primary thrombocythemia (throm-bo-sigh-THE-me-uh). Essential thrombocythemia is one of a group of diseases of the blood and bone marrow known as myeloproliferative neoplasms.
Thank you so much for the information! I was recently diagnosed with ET and it just felt like my life was over. I'm only 25 and I've had ET for about 4 years now. My doctor haven't given me much info about the disease, but thanks to your video and information I feel much more hopeful! Thank you so much! Best wishes from Sweden
@idaaxels We are sorry to hear about your diagnosis of essential thrombocythemia. Thank you for sharing your appreciation and kind comments. We have sent your comments to Dr. Mesa.
@SpreadingAwareness Many thanks for your question. We do not believe that Essential Thrombocythemia would interfere with a man being able to father a child, nor should there be any concerns for the health of the subsequent child. Women with ET can successfully become pregnant and carry a child to term. However, women do have a harder time conceiving and have a higher miscarriage rate when they have ET. All my best. Dr. Ruben Mesa
@mayoclinic Thanks for your response. We were actually hoping it would have made him infertile, as we don't want kids and hormonal birth control REALLY messes with my health, I've just come off it for good. Sooo, on to the barrier methods. Thanks for your video, you explained my boyfriends condition a lot clearer than the hospital did, he's just been diagnosed but he feels a lot less worried now after watching your video. Thanks!
Thank you! I can see me sharing this informative video with family members and friends who want to know more about my disorder. I might even put it on my facebook page.
I have essential thrombocythemia the doctor told me that if i didn't take chemo drugs for the rest of my life i'd be dead by 50/40 and my condition was incurable. I went to a homeopath who used the vegatest machine to check my meridians told me i was lacking vitamin k and my pancreas and liver needed detox. I'm taking drops each day and mms. my incurable disease is getting better and the doctor told me see the drugs do work my abercromby. Ha ha ha I haven't taken a single 1. don't trust doctors
@abercromby1000 Vitamin K decreases your INR and increases your chances of clot formation significantly. With this condition I would suggest caution to continue this treatment.
Thank you so much for this video. It is very informative for patients like myself, and has also been so helpful for explaining this disease to friends and family. It's very easy to direct them to this video, and having it explained in such a relaxed, professional, yet easy to understand manner has helped a great deal. Thank you :).
