  • Anyone else see this as a leap into Uncanny Valley...?

Cuz, imo, that bear is hella creepy.

  • I had both of these! I still have them! I ♥ these! haha

  • Talk about brain washing kids lol. Is this like a normal childhood for kids? If it was that`s why I can`t relate to it, mine wasn`t even close to normal, pure dysfunction.

  • Screw you Grubby, don't try to come between me and my best friend

  • lmao i am sure they didn't release 'grubby' in australia.

  • : ) I loved my Teddy Ruxpin! I was very lucky to have one. Only that i remember it ruined the tapes, but i still loved using it though!

  • I was 6 when Teddy Ruxpin came out. If you had one I hated you for it cause I never got one. But thats okay, I "settled" with the GI Joe USS Flagg Aircraft Carrier and the Cobra Terrordome! Bitches.

  • LOL wow, i was 6 years old! Thanx for posting this, this brings back memories. I had teddy but not grubby

  • I still have mine..

  • I had a teddy ruxpin. Till my cousin broke his mouth off :(

  • I put these exact two on display at a local college library a few years ago. Well, one of the kids there recognized the Teddy, said he had the 80's one, which was different than the ones I had (said the 80's one was SMALLER than the ones I had, as well as there not being a Grubby for it in the 80's!!)! TRUE story! Because this kid didn't remember the 80's, the Teddy/Grubby combo didn't exist- according to that punk kid! Judging by his age, I'd say he was born around 1985, too young to remember!!

  • @pika62221 Oh, I should add that I got the duo back in 1986, at the age of 9, so obviously old enough to not only remember, but to KNOW when they came out, and know WHAT they were!! I don't get why these kids who were born in the 80's argue with MY lifetime!! I LIVED the 1980's, I wasn't born in them!! These two toys of mine have sat side-by-side for the last 25 years now, and in my mind you just CAN'T have a Teddy Ruxpin without a Grubby, just impossible!!

  • @pika62221

I had a Teddy Ruxpin first edition and no, I didn't have Grubby because my dad almost couldn't buy me one let alone two. Not everybody have money you know, and I was fortunate enough to have one.

  • That's cute!

  • i remember he did sing along because i used to stick my pen!s in it

  • @fujirio gross!

  • Teddy Ruxpin scares the fucking shit out of my balls!

  • Daww, now that was actually adorable.

The majority of 80's toys were f-ing wierd, but this guy is cute. The commercial has an appealing innocence that's kind of lost in today's world.

  • OMG! Teddy Ruxpin & Grubby were my favorite toys when I was a kid! They are one of the few things that I still have from my childhood. To this day I could never part with them.......I think it's time to get them out of the closet for a little reunion. LOL!!

  • i had a teddy ruxpin when i was six, it lasted about a month before my older brother destroyed it, and ive never fully forgiven him, a few days ago was my 31st birthday, and he got one for me! definitley the best birthday present i got!

  • @ladysmith79 As an older brother myself I am sorry, I did the same thing to my sister's teddy ruxpin.

  • @IkilledColMustard maybe you should get your sister a new one!! She would most likely actually appreciate it!! Just like ladysmith79!!

  • @ashley7327 lol I did that the day after I wrote the comment.

  • @IkilledColMustard awesome!! What did she think??

  • @IkilledColMustard HA HA! glad you got your sister one too! he's a bit creepier than i remembered!

  • I still have my Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby. They still work too!

  • I never had these dolls. These were toys for rich kids. The distinguished-sounding British announcer didn't help to sell these to me.

  • @flix2view You want a hug?

  • lol

The bear even took a shit as a bonus

  • What kind of cruel person wraps up their best friends best friend in paper? Cruel kids.

  • **cowers in fear from disturbing toy at 0:16**

  • OH MY GOD THERES 2 OF THEM!!!!

  • I miss my Teddy Ruxpin :( I only ever had a glow worm instead of getting a Grubby.

  • cute commersial

  • the atropod freaky friend!!

  • @Octopi101 hahahahahahaahah

  • singboyy Grubby is an octopiede stupid.

  • Take that FURBY.

  • a best friend for my best friend makes me not the best friend of my best friend! :( tears*

  • me and my sis had a grubby each :p

  • these things are from like the future

  • I remember they had an entire storyline and universe for the Ruxpin characters. Sorta in the art style of Smurfs too, was there ever a TV show to go along with it?

  • I was a good bit too old to watch it but yes there was a teddy ruxpin cartoon. Still seemed like a neat toy.

  • i remember this commercial! the things that we grew up on. and then we forget. i never had a teddy ruxpin. i think i never asked for one. i had cricket, corky, and talk n play. what about you all?

  • What's Talk n play?

  • Talk N Play was an audio cassette player & also an interactive toy. You could buy books seperatly for educational purposes. It had 4 color coded buttons & when they were pressed you could hear 1 of 4 responses. For example on Sesame Street book if Grover told you not to press the red button and you pressed green, he would say, "Good you pressed green. " If you pressed the red button, he would scream, "Ah! I said dont press the red button!" Helped me learn colors early. Google it for more info.

  • Do you still have your Talk N Play? If so could you please make a video of it if possible? Who was the unit made by?

  • i still have it. i dont think it still works tho cuz it ruined a tape 10 yrs ago, so i was afraid to touch it. the batteries from 10 yrs ago r even still in it! "use by sep 2002" i have kept it all this time so i could say that i had it. google "Talk N PLay" like i did and u will b able 2 c it. it is the exact same model. i dont think they made different ones. it was made by CBS toys and Playskool i believe.

  • I had an old TV, i poped in Toy Story, which was my favorite movie ever at that time, that stupid TV tore it up. I cried for days because they didnt sell the tape anymore, so we couldn't get a new one. After that i never used that TV tape player anymore, because it scared me that it would tare up another. And it also scared me because one time i put in a tape, and it sucked in my finger. It didnt hurt, but it scared the hell out of me cuz i was only 4 at the time and i thought id lose my finger:S

  • It looked so scary! My friend had one. The commercial made you want it but when you saw it working.. it was freaky

  • I was born in 1981, i had the toy of Ruxpin when i was 5 in 1986 for christmas and i watched the cartoon every weekday afternoon after kidnergarden.

  • I had that doll and he lost his eyes... but he still talked ... very creepy

  • how?

  • @sillykittycookie667

The doll was battery powered and it's mouth would move. The doll had a cassette player inside it's back.

  • I love Teddy...one of the best Toy ever

  • I Love Teddy Ruxpin!

  • what is grubby anyway? A duck/ Bug thing.

  • ohh wow, would have been awsome in the 80's !

  • We would play music tapes in teddy ruxpin after we got bored with the stories.

It was funny watching him sing fat boys records

  • @mattbpatterson , if you still have it would you upload something of that?

  • @Spike1885 I don't have it anymore. all my toys are gone, gone, gone for I am a grown ass man now.......All I have is memories

  • @mattbpatterson auhh i hopr you realize that teddy s mouth or eyes would not move when playing music tapes because there was a special tone embedded in the story tapes that made the eyes blink and mouth talk with music tapes it would play but sound would be poor quality and they could damage the tape player since it was designed for the WOW story tapes just to let you know...good day sir

  • @stevewittbrodt false sir, he did sing along. It was funny

  • @mattbpatterson NO!! he does not cause i did the same thing, tapes will play but he wont move mouth now if you still wanna argue about it put a video up of him doing it and i will shut my mouth believe me i have exp. working on these they only move mouth to their own tapes put a teddy tape in a regular tape player and play it i guarantee you will hear an obnoxious constant tone come out of one side of the speakers that's the tone that make mouth and eyes move

  • @stevewittbrodt you need to get a life dude

  • @mattbpatterson you crack me up man its jackasses like you that make youtube fun good day to you sir

  • Ha! My sister still has this thing in her old room! It was sooo fun to play with! :D

  • wow, i gotta say back in the 1980's the commercial are really creepy/scary with creepy toys for kids...

  • i miss them lol i had them both when i was 4 gosh good times

  • that shit is creepy lol!

  • I burned mine because it used to say nasty things.

  • I remember, the bottom jaw of my Teddy broke off. I also remember having to put a casette tape in his back to get him to work.

Actually Teddy was my brother's. I had Grubby. He's in Iraq now. I'm 25

  • The Nostalgia Critic is selling two Teddy Ruxpins (One working, and one that doesn't work), and a Grubby doll.

  • Times like this i'm gald i own a shotgun,

  • ....creepy...

  • *wipes tears from eyes* My husband bought me both Teddy and Gruby the other day at a yard sale. They are in perfect condition. Sadly, they don't work =( But just having them both is wonderful.

  • you dumb bitch if it doesnt work then its not in perfect condition wtf is wrong with you

  • @faerykat1978 I can restore those for you for about $50 they will talk and move again

  • Wow, I remember Teddy Ruxpin, mine use to talk all the time,.....Sometimes without the batteries. Good thing that priest was living with us......While Teddy was attacking the priest we were able to get away.

  • I"m holding Grubby ransome in my closet.

  • The Teddy Ruxpin doll was ahead of its time.

  • why did i play with this doll lol

  • could it play other cassettes like for an example TLC could it?

  • THE BEST OF THE BEST TOY!!!!!

  • I remember my brother and I BEGGING our parents to get us Teddy Ruxpins for Christmas when we were little kids...I think I still have mine somewhere.

  • Is this what people did 30 years ago?

  • The toys today aren't THAT different.

  • if it wasn't for this little bear we would not have known nintendo like we do now meaning america would not have had the wii o.0

  • That's right, Worlds Of Wonder, who made Teddy Ruxpin, distributed the NES.

  • THATS WHY HIS BARE ROCKS LOL EVEN THOU ONCE THE NINTENDO CAME OUT EVERYONE DIDN'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT TEDDY (sorry about caps)

  • .... sound the conch

  • the kid who brought in teddy was so cute!

  • I want Grubby! :)

  • When i was little I babtized my Teddy..in the pool....x.o my bad

  • I had one of those!!

  • I'm gonna guess that Grubby pitches and Teddy Ruxpin catches.

  • grubby scared the heck out of me

  • id like to play my mp3 player on this thing using a cassette adaptor

  • Haha.

  • i dont suppose you have the u .k advert with the gansters who threaten to knock the stuffing out of teddy if he didnt talk , he does of course and makes friends with his captors , it was like the frankenstein version , a little odd but i still remember it ,thanks for the videos , teddy retailed in the uk for £84.99 in woolworths ,in fall or autmn 85 ,he had a huge display with animated teddy they dressed him in the christmas outfit in late october ,

  • I remember that...that was so low. Release a talking bear that children will form an artificial bond with, then sell his best friend separately. They should've just included a recording that said, "Hey, kids. You love Teddy don't you. Well, Teddy loves Grubby. Ask Mommy and Daddy to buy Grubby so Teddy won't be lonely. If Mommy and Daddy won't buy Grubby, you'll make Teddy saaad".

  • I had a Cooler from Pound Puppies that worked in the same way Teddy Ruxbin did. It was pretty much feeding off the Ruxbin fad.

  • I had both of them, and their mouths broke off both of them.

  • lol

  • How did you manage that?

  • I honestly don't remember. I was very young at the time, I don't remember even owning them until we moved and my mother found them in the basement a few years later. There was also a Mother Goose version that I also had, and, then neck was broken. I should probably add that my brother was a violent child!

  • I burned my Teddy Ruxpin, that sort of traumatized Grubby. I don't think he has been quite the same since. Especially since my dog got a hold of him.

  • my cousins had that damn bear, creepy little freak

  • its kind of scary... they can plot against you while you sleep........ AHHH!

  • I so wanted a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little... Now that I have a good job that pays well I think I'll go get one.

  • lol, I heard that

  • This made me fucking burst out laughing

i still have the original its fucking awesome

haha loved it when i was 5 but it sounds so perverted now...''hey everyone put my tape in, come play with me and wonderful freinds'' haha that is fucking creepy

  • how would it sound perverted? BTW, i never worked the tape deck in my Teddy Ruxpin, but isn't the tape deck like under his clothes or something. i only had the Playskool Teddy. the WoW version was not being made anymore at the time it was bought.

  • It was in his back. Under his shirt.

  • Oh, I remember now. That's true, but people do that to other people whenever they put ice down your shirt! face it, I had ice go down mine many times. And another thing, where else could they put the tape deck?

BTW: Where is the MP3 cartridge deck located on the newer Teddy Ruxpin dolls? Are they still on his back under his clothes?

  • They haven't upgraded to mp3s yet. Though I can't figure out why. The newest model (from 2006) runs on a 'digital cartridge' so it can ONLy play cartridges made for him. He was more fun when he could play any tape, that's why I hope they upgrade him to mp3s.

  • oh. i see. that would be nice wouldn't it? but how would the toy play any mp3s without malfunctioning? that's the question. if you play cassettes other than the storybook cassettes with Teddy too many times, he'll malfunction.

BTW: I made a slideshow with the cassette version of "I Want To Be Rich" from Teddy Ruxpin. The video's called "Tweeg's SlideShow." Type Teddy Ruxpin in the search, arrange the videos by time posted and it should be the most recent one. Post a caption for the pictures! ;)

  • Perhaps he could double as an ordinary Mp3 Player with the mechanisms where the old cassette player one used to be. And when you download Teddy Ruxpin related Mp3s they also come with an added file (much like the extra component of the Teddy cassettes) that cause the facial movements. They could easily make him more articulated than he was before, adding more lifelike facial motions.

  • If he plays an ordinary Mp3 a safety could be activated to shut off the part that reads the usually added Ruxpin-related motion file. It detects the added file isn't there so it switches to a default ordinary Mp3 playing. The facial motions can be set to only activate when the Mp3 has the added file. With today's technology it would be easy to set him to read these things.

  • elmo live seems more lifelike

  • add some dark room and lightning to this commercial. see if you want one of those muthafukers then.

these things used to turn on by themselves at nite.

  • really? how do you know?

  • cuz they did , my cousin would have one.. plus i heard the original bear was haunted. maybe a malfunction , oh well

  • omg.....i miss the 80's....

  • Me and my Dad bought one for my oldest daughter. We had everything for it but Grubby. It was an expensive toy at the time but it was fun around the house. I wouldn't mind seeing a new one but more robotic. One that can walk and talk and maybe to balance the checkbook.

  • This makes me want to cry for hours.... happy birthday teddy.....

  • My daddy gave it to me!

I was sooooooooo happy, you are right it was very expensive!

  • Oh, memories of the 80's...not only did we have the best cartoons, but the best toys too.

  • They could easy sell him with a built in mp3 player instead of cassettes. Just a slight change to what's built into him, otherwise he'd work exactly the same way.

  • Da soll MYM]Grubby sein Nick herhaben O_o

  • EY GRUB-BAY

  • LOL!!!!!!!

  • Wow! If I remember correctly,

Grubby was one hell of an expensive

    "best friend".

    And Teddy Ruxpin wasn't easily

    affordable either.

  • that

    is

    weeeeerid

but kinda kool still weird though i would be scared or maybe its just cuse its such poor quality...

  • Poor quality? Clearly you never owned one of these. They were heavy and very durable. The toys today, the plush ones, aren't better.

  • Yeah, I remember how heavy the body was on mine. I remember holding it by the chest because I was afraid I'd rip the arm off just holding it there. I'm not ashamed to admit I loved my Teddy; alas, he was my dog Sarah's first casualty. :(

  • gruBby sieht unwarscheinlich interessant aUS:

    MISCHUNG ZWISCHEN MUMMINS UND ESEL.9

  • This is the shit right here. All those nights leaning on grubby makes you wanna kill somebody.

  • lol what a happy commercial. no violence, no explosions just little kids and talking toys.

  • i miss being a kid. sure i have more toys now but it's no fun having responsibilities

  • interesting experience HAHAHA

  • Wheres Grubby, King of orcs?

  • "A Best Friend for Your Best Friend." .. Am I suddenly not GOOD ENOUGH anymore, Teddy?

  • I was totally thinking the same thing lol

  • HAHA!

  • lmao, what the hell.

  • r.i.p. 4k <3

  • coolest toy ever

  • I had Teddy... I don't know what ever happened to him. He was my favorite toy. Where is he???????

  • i had teddy and grubby

  • Being the 80s, how did they get them to sync? Were they both hooked up to a unit or did you have to press "PLAY" at exactly the same moment on each of them?

  • according to wikipedia there was a cord that connected the two dolls. Code on the ride side of the audio tape told each doll when to move it's mouth.

  • In the mid 80s I was working in the hardware dept. of a dept. store, right next to toys.

Everytime someone passed the Teddy Ruxpin dolls

on the endcap, Teddy would start his spiel: "Hi! How are you! I'm Teddy Ruxpin. I came here from the land of..." Heard that a number of times. Kind of like what happens these days when a store has Billy Big Mouth Bass and he starts singing when people pass by (or voice activated)

  • Those things used to scare the beegezus out of me when I was a kid, they still kinda look creepy.

  • I still have my teddy ruxpin and my grubby is still in perfect condition lol! I still ahve tapes and books...lost the damn connector that goes between the two tho :(

  • one word...ebay

  • i never new they had a grubby one to lol

  • Oh, yes. I had Teddy but not Grubby.

  • i remember i brought my teddy ruxpin to show and tell in kindgarten and i got in trouble cause i wouldnt let any of tge kids play with it. i was like damn wtf ITS MY TEDDY RUXPIN

    good days, good childhood

  • We had a Teddy Dustpan and Grubby and the airship, and all the tapes and and...

  • I used to think that thing was really talking. Little did I know it was a tape player making his mouth move like that (I was 5 and didn't know any better).

  • i always wanted a grubby but never got one :(

  • Never had one and now that i am grown up i know why. My dad would have punted that thing so far. The scariest product ever produced was teddy ruxpin.

  • I love Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby! By the way, Grubby is an octipede, you know, a cross between an octopus and a centipede. Just so you know. Thanks for the commercial sentientred, brings back a lot of memories!

  • Really is that what Grubby is? Cool. :)

  • sob I always wanted a storytelling teddy Ruxpin WUAHHHHH!!!!!

  • lol

  • When was there a Disney Goofy voiced Grubby Doll!

  • Holy Crap! I had that Grubby toy. I used to ride it around like a horse. I think it may still be in the attic.

  • That's so funny! I used to do that with my Grubby, too. I'd rock back and worth on him and I'd always hear, "CRACK CRACK CRACK." Ah, Grubby. You took quite a beating for so many years... :P

  • there's an underlying minor key when they're singing together

  • I remember that.. =)I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin...

  • I bet those kids were jazzed. They all got free Teddy's and Grubbies as part of their payment for the commercial.

  • That's right. I made so much money from it that it payed for my college tuition and I also receive a talking bear for my efforts. However, I was in a later Teddy Ruxspin commercial which was filmed in 1992.

  • Were ya really in that commercial...where were ya at...and whats ya thoughts on Teddy Ruxpin now...lol. He kinda creeps me out..lmfao

  • I nearly forgot that they reintroduced him in the nineties. Perhaps it's time for them to do it again.

  • lmao @ thinking you'd get decent money from doing a commercial in the 80's. You can't even get decent money from doing one today. Nice try though.

  • Actually college was a lot cheaper in the eighties and with child labor laws coupled with acting unions children in eighties commercials were paid pretty well. Back then a commercial went a lot further. There commercials total were breaks in shows, instead of the twenty five or so minutes of commercials you get per hour today. Most parents were smart enough to put the money earned into accounts and yes it paid for a lot of college (which was also cheaper not that long ago).

  • Brings back so many memories...
