@Trickiersimon Hey Thanks for your question. However, I never had Snow Leopard before. Only Leopard. But from what I understand both are very similar. In any case Snow Leopard is much better than Lion. Lion takes away a lot of compatibility and essentially turns your computer into a useless tablet that can't run most of your older software.
@ether2802 You have to follow the instructions I give in my video, you cannot do it straight from the disk. If you want mainly Snow Leopard like i did, I would just shrink lion down real small and install on large partition snow leopard following my directions.
i am having a problem. i am trying the disc part. i put in my snow leopard disk into my mac book pro that came with the snow leopard but i waited for more than 1 hr waiting for it to show the installer and i have hold c too. the problem is that it stucks there with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. pls help
According to Apple, installing an earlier version of OS X then what your computer came with can cause the following: * The trackpad or mouse may not respond properly * The computer may stop responding * Sleep/wake issues may occur * The display image may appear to "shrink" with black bars around it, may appear tinted, or have other issues * Loss of built-in audio * Loss of Bluetooth or AirPort functionality * May not start up past the Apple logo
@ciccone39 It works fine for me, and for many others that have tried it on here. However, I cannot promise it won't, but I know at least 10 that have done it and have had no problems whatsoever.
I spent 13 hours working with AppleCare and with a friends help to make this happen. My friend suggested this method (target disk) and it worked, but it was a little laggy. When you install from target disk mode, you may be installing drivers for the old system, not the new. One way to prevent this is getting your hands on a "serialized installation disk". I got mine from AppleCare.
@HyperionVideos, mum and dad bought a new imac that came with lion. i was using my macbook pro with snow leopard installed. when i put the disc in it says it cant be installed and instead of the continue button it converts to the quit button
@getpos1979 Watch my video, you have connect the lion to the snow leopard, turn off lion, turn on in firewire mode, insert disc in snow leopard, select lion harddrive when it asks where to install. Watch video for more info.
@HyperionVideos, yep i did all that, except when i insert the disc it says it can't be installed on this computer (my macbook pro running snow leopard 10.6.8) so i never get to the stage of it asking me where to install it. i can see the partitioned drive on my desktop where i want it to be saved but it won't let me do it. i watched your vid about 3 times and wrote everything down step by step but am still getting no love
@getpos1979 which instal disc do you have? also if you have a complete time machine backup it may be possible to do it that way. I believe u need 10.6.3 disc.
is there a reason osx 10.6.2 won't load on my snow leopard machine? it won't allow me to go through to the install stage and select continue. it says it cannot be installed on this computer. cheers
Man...you are a LEGEND!!! Lion's compatibility (or lack thereof) with my protools software was the ONLY issue stopping me from investing in a new top of the line iMac...but thanks to your EXCELLENT advice and solution...I now have nothing to worry about - THANK YOU!!! :D
Furthermore: This way you can also keep lion installed on the seperate partition so that when it EVENTUALLY becomes more compatible with your software...you can then make a seamless switch! AWESOME!!! :D
All you need to do is insert your Snow Leopard DVD, restart, and hold down the C key doing the boot up process (you can let go once the Apple logo appears).
@MarcBookPro Try it, it doesn't work, lion has something built in. If you do as you describe you will get a grey screen and beeping forever until you force shut down your computer and start it normally.
@HyperionVideos I've tired it multiple times on multiple Macs. Has never failed on me. Are you on a Mac that isn't capable of running anything back as far as 10.6.3?
@MarcBookPro this is what my video is about, it is about getting snow leopard onto a lion preinstalled mac....its the only way to do it, also installing on an external hard drive from another mac works as well and then booting off of it.
@HyperionVideos Gotcha. I had to roll back my father's Mid 2011 iMac when he got it last month. Luckily I had a friend with the iMac Mid 2011 restore DVDs and those worked fine.
same situation for me. I'm needing pro tools 9 real bad; and was starting to consider buying it. well sooner or later I will, but now's not the moment. thanx!
now; can't I get a version of snow leopard that is already upgraded? it does not exist right?
Can't install Snow Leopard on a New Macbook Air and the New Mac Mini's Snow Leopard does not have the video drivers for that hardware. I got the .kexts and got it working but there are still stuff missing/buggy. Core2duo Air with Snow Leopard. Steve is dead and so is Apple. After Snow Leopard is unsupported I regret I will have no choice to go back to winblows.
Hi, usefull video thanks =) but i can't understand everything cause i'm not english, did you say that it's a mac with lion pre installed on it ? like it has never known anything about snow leopard ?
You can also do this with a portable HD or an ipod.

Me again. Does this method work using a bootable usb pen drive instead of the actual DVD?

@getpos1979 yes you will need a disc with the earliest 10.6.3
Even better is if you can get what is called a "serialized installation disc". Those can come with 10.6.7
