How's about a video showing it's acceleration and braking?
I built a small motocross bike with rear hub motor, it's only 1500w and still has very great torque - it for sure accelerates better than comparable ICE scooter...
it uses a smaller battery, that's better for disposal on earth, why not just use gas and hydrogen to lower emissions and still power generator and a really small Lithium Ion battery to start the process
Who wants a car with no engine sound? I surely doesn`t! Volvo:s 5 cylinder engine is one of the most beutiful sounded with a litter bit bigger exhaust:D
ya they say this car can get 160 mpg. Each wheel has it own motor, and can recharge by regenitive brakeing I think. But is will also have a flex fuel or diesel engine. When the battery charge gets to 30% the combustion engine will engage and charge the batteries up to 100%. This can be a very clean system, especially is a bio diesel engine is used.
Do the maths right! The degree of efficiency of an ICE is up to 35 percent. The advantage of an electrical engine indeed is that the degree of up to 70 percent. If the EC is powered by a battery you need to multiply it by the 30 percent degree of efficiency of the power plant minus the losses of conducting the current to where the car is charged, the degree of the efficiency of recharging the battery, then you end up with more or less the same degree of efficiency. If you have a fuell cell car,
An ICE is 25% energy efficient, then subtract another 30% loss through the transmission remembering that power is lost as it passes through every gear. Subtract idling losses from what remains and your caclculations for an ICE should start at 10 - 15%. If you subtract how much of the remaining is pushing the cars mass you end up with barely 1% pushing the driver down the road.
No-one ever includes oil refinery efficiency so leave power supply out of it

If you have a fuell cell car,
if you have a fuel cell car, then you need to calculate the efficiency of the electrolysis process (around 70 percent) to generate the hydrogen, the efficiency of the fuel cell itself (around 40 percent) to re-generate the current to run the car.
So, if you use figures, then use them right!! It is easy to produce an electrical car and present it to the public! The one thing is to really offer a sustainable electrical car on the market.
The Volvo C30 Recharge doesn't use Hydrogen or a Fuel Cell.
It uses a Lithium Ion battery, which is recharged in several different ways - from the Electricity Grid, from Regenerative Braking, or by a small Flexifuel onboard generator. I have suggested to Volvo that they might also use a rooftop Solar Array now that the cost of Solar Sheeting being fitted to house roofs.
Volvo suggest the running cost in the US would be about 3cents per mile. But Solar energy is FREE!
this seems like a decent car. can wait for a new wave of these cars to hit the market big time. its about time for a replacement of the gas powered cars.
This car is an series electric hybrid. It has a 1.6 liter biofuel engine to recharge the batteries, and has 4 999Nm motors. One at each wheel. That gives the car around 3000 foot pounds of torque. Other things to know, it goes about 100kms on the charge, with the motor charging the batteries it can get 650km to the tank.
nope I mean 3000ft lbs. Check the article on the world car fans website. The article sites 4 999Nm engines, and says for a combined torque of 3996Nm, so it isn't a typo.
that explains the tailpipes i noticed at 1:19 in to the video. i think this is the ultimate set-up. electrically powered with an ultra efficient ICE to recharge the batteries

I had been driving the Volvo C30 for a couple of weeks during august-07 and I was so pleasantly surprised by it. This car just makes you relax and enjoy the ride. From the first moment you enter it and start driving you feel that the car is treating you well and you can't but admire the amount of thinking and effort that has been done just for this reason. Even after 2 weeks of driving this, I still caught myself smiling while driving for no apparent reason. I'd easily buy one if I had the money
I got a good look at the new c30 the other day. It's okay for a volvo. It seems like there's something missing in the back of it though, the shape of the back seems so...blank. There's like nothing there.
i wonder if its still goin to be turbo charge =]

Turbocharging electric motors? What a novel idea. Let me know if you figure out how that can be accomplished.

Add some of those new magnetic shocks for energy recovery and put in a larger auto for space and it will be unbeatable.
Too bad crazy ford once again is going to sell off something rather than lead on something

why hybrid, why not all electric with brake regeneration?
shakaama 3 years ago
this is electric with regeneration. the diesel is only for recharging bateries, it`s not connected to wheels

Its too quiet.. Add an engine noise box or something. One of those sound boxes that reproduce any engine ever made

Doign what? Electric cars? Do you think that electricity comes from nowhere? It just means more pollution where the powerplant is... :|
