  • This kid is so inspirational to me. He bypasses all the "scholastic" thinking that people often attribute to jazz and does what it is really supposed to be about- listening, creating and playing. True talent from the soul, fingers and EAR!!

  • i simply dont care if he knows theory or not, its just stupid to think of it while watching this video. Just AWESOME!

  • yeah, wonderfull, Really nice phrasing :)

  • It's not scary, it's wonderful. And stop comparing! This is a young player who understands music intuitively, as you should do. It's a joy to see and hear, and that's all it needs to be. God bless Andreas, and all the best for a joyous life and career.

  • I know Andreas and play with a lot of the guys who have taught him a few things .The scary thing is he is so accomplished with little or no knowledge of theory. It really is all ear with the little guy, give him another 7 or 8 yrs and see what happens when he knows exacly what's goin on and see where he's going to go as a muso.Scary stuff but what a wonderful talent. Also you should hear his younger brother on the drums and his sister singing, equally as good. What a great job his parents have done

  • Nagyon.nagyon jó a fiu és igen szép jövö elött áll.

  • Awesome ! John Mayer can kiss this..

  • This Dude Is Scary Good , I Was In A Workshop With Him About A Year Ago With Another Great Jazz Player Called Torsten Goods (I Think Thats How To Spell It , Check Him Out ) . Torsten Was Talking About Chords And He Mention A D Major Chord , But Andreas Hadn't A Clue What He Was On About , And Then He Pulls This Kinda Shit Off ! Hah

  • C'mon, he doesn't know a lick of theory? Bullshit. That's just another way to hype the kid up. He obviously knows all of his scales, modes, and chord inversions, otherwise he wouldn't be able to play jazz. If anything, he just doesn't know the name that goes on any it.

  • He knows it - now whether he knows he knows it, or is capable of expressing it in words is another matter - another matter that doesn't matter... this kid "gets" music on a level most of us can only dream of no matter how much we "know" - if we want to understand flight we learn aerodynamics, a bird doesn't need to

  • @hannahsfive

A bird flies without aviation theory. Good analogy.

Andreas "flies" without ever needing to know what a flattened ninth means in English, and what b9 signifies in the maths of harmonic structure. His understanding is wordless, numberless; it's aural: he hears it, he plays it. We learn the English and maths of music because we can't do it his way.

  • Man, those little Roland Cubes are the best things ever!

I need to get one for myself. Then I gotta learn to play half this good.

  • what's your problem with john Mayer??

  • Of course, he's saturated in Benson via Montgomery ... and why not?

At his age I liked TV themes and cartoon music and Lulu.

  • Amazing!

  • i wonder who is the idiot ...that doesnt like this video??

  • Lots of big names being thrown around guys....scary part is...he's already up their with them. Scary...very scary.

  • This musi is boring...im going to listen to seether now.

  • Go Andreas!!!

  • What kind of guitar is this?

  • @1221Guitar

I believe this is a one-of made by an irish guitar maker.

Andreas has a Tokai sig model and also uses a Yamaha SA2200

  • What kind of guitar is he using?

  • @1221Guitar

Fitz Howard guitar, Luthier based in Donegal, Ireland.

  • He is very happy when he said derry jazz festival, he will be playing next year at the same time at the derry jazz festivial 2012, incredible talent and a worthy young lad.

  • George Benson...Breezin...I see his influences.

  • Think he's ever listened to any of "Breezin" by George Benson? Haha, he's fantastic!!

  • WOW!!!! What a Prodigious talent. AMAZING!!!!!

  • john mayer is just good at another style of guitar playing. its not that either of them are better or worse. Andreas is beast at jazz, John is beast at blues. Nuff said.

  • @dalilmexicano Pretty sure this kid would smash John Mayer in blues as well, he plays an awful lot of blues licks that mayor wishes he could play and understand

  • Tremendous Thank you. And If you're coming neat upstate NY. I will bring lots of people. thanks

  • the best part is that he doesnt know a lick of theory! This kid is freakin great!

  • He seems to be in the Bireli Lagrene or Jimmy Rosenburg school of advanced-preteen players. Why the hell is it always the gypsy jazz players who can do this???

  • @ibanezbloke becasue gypsy jazz learn you some reachable basic jazz concepts, lots of chords positions and rich arpeggios such as 6/9, 7, m75b, 6, major7, minor7, dimished, with that vocabulary you are able to play what you want. I play guitar since 8 years and Gypsy jazz since 3 years and jazz seems to be a lot more accessible to me, gypsy jazz is a very good entrance door to the jazz stair.

  • @ibanezbloke Because they play music with their family and friends all day. No Xbox or Playstation to distract them :-)

  • By the time hes 20 he just might be the greatest jazz guitarist ever

  • Does anybody know the chords for this one?

  • He is the best teenager guitarist I ever seen....

I'm from Brazil and I'll never... NEVER play like this kid.

To Andreas Varady (wherever you are) :

    YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!

  • I know the guy from school :-)

  • Haha... why all the talk about other guitarists? Personally, I think he's going to become the next Andreas Varady.... ;-) And won't that be a wonderful thing?

  • You just have to smile when you see this kid play:-)

  • Copy and paste this amazing Andreas Varady Live in the Derry Jazz Festival:

    /watch?v=kGXWlh2efq8

  • This amazing Jazz guitarist is incredible talented and i seen him in the derry jazz festival, he was fantasic. I will be uploading a new vid with him. It great to avertise this on the late late show.

  • my little-big friend, I adore him :) what great talent he has !!!

  • very very good ! 5 ***** stars

  • He sounds more like George Benson. He is amazing anyways...

  • @mjazzeki I read where Benson is his main guitar god.

  • In 40 years time this guy will be a legend.

  • Why in the name of fuck is Rebecca Black in the suggestions?

  • damn, i think im a year older than him, and i thought wow, this kids good.... i thought i had a good ear...

  • its just SOO SMOOTH! :D

  • unreal

  • this is not real this dont make any sense. the way this kid is playing now, people, including me among others, have been and still trying to get near something like that for years! and he's way younger than me!

  • This phenom gets only 3,436 views of his talent, while the 'Friday' video gets 42 million. I may never stop shaking my head. It'll be amazing to see what becomes of him, based on how talented he is right now.

  • Rebecca Black 'Friday' video: 42 Million views on Youtube.

Andreas Varady video: 3,436 views on Youtube.

I may never stop shaking my head.

  • Guitar built by Jeremiah Fitz Howard of Letterkenny, Co Donegal

  • We've been waiting a century for another Django. About time.

    No pressure, kid! ;)

  • @FenderChopin I think there have been a few incarnations of Django. See: Joscho Stephan.

  • Holy crap in a basket. How old is this kid? This is incredible, most older experienced guitarists can't play this well. Jazz guitar is crazy hard to do well, the fact that he has not only the technique but also the feel down is really impressive. Hope he continues to do what he loves, cause he does it damn well.

  • Andy McKee brought me here! Great job Andy!!!

  • i bet he gets all the ladies! i wish i was that good

  • What a wonderful tradition of music for this little genius to gravitate towards. He'll do it (what am I saying, he already doing it) justice. Good on you, kid! Keep it up...

  • Go for it Andreas! You are an inspiration to your generation! Fabulous!

  • Reminds me of Acoustic Alchemy.

  • That is the definition of talent. Some people just got it where others have to work really hard just to achieve mediocrity.

  • shockante!!!!!!grande piccolo!!!

  • Wow... I can't even play a note xD. This is amazing!

  • This kid's gonna be one of the greats when he's older... Keep playing!

  • genial

    ♥

  • he looks lik john mayer as a child....

  • @MaddenMan888 John Mayer the "bluesman" who plays songs for tennagers? No he is probably the future Pat Metheny or Bireli Lagrene!

    John Mayer... haha

  • @edbangfan

    Reading comprehension ftl

  • @edbangfan Wow! this kid is already way way cleaner and more musical than Bireli ever was, imo.

  • @edbangfan I take you haven't seen John Mayer play properly, watch his trio videos.....

  • @edbangfan Omg .. why always people compare musicians! I love pat metheny and john mayer .. they have rated styles playing the instrument .. Varady will be the future Varady .. and I think that he agree with me!

  • Nice job! I think it is great to see someone interested in jazz at such a young age. Keep it up!

  • Wow!

  • This kid is already amazing, can't imagine how good he'll be as an adult... that's just scary to think about. GREAT JOB!

  • un grande!

  • He's so good.

  • im just gonna quit playing guitar....

  • I wish i could play like him..

    he is really awesome!

  • such a big talent in a small package. cant wait to see this kid when hes all grow'd up. Thanks Andy McKee for linking me here!

  • Very cool :) I wish I were that talented!

  • this kid is amazing

  • Unreal! Amazing talent.

This shows the power of love and dedication to music.
