This kid is so inspirational to me. He bypasses all the "scholastic" thinking that people often attribute to jazz and does what it is really supposed to be about- listening, creating and playing. True talent from the soul, fingers and EAR!!
It's not scary, it's wonderful. And stop comparing! This is a young player who understands music intuitively, as you should do. It's a joy to see and hear, and that's all it needs to be. God bless Andreas, and all the best for a joyous life and career.
I know Andreas and play with a lot of the guys who have taught him a few things .The scary thing is he is so accomplished with little or no knowledge of theory. It really is all ear with the little guy, give him another 7 or 8 yrs and see what happens when he knows exacly what's goin on and see where he's going to go as a muso.Scary stuff but what a wonderful talent. Also you should hear his younger brother on the drums and his sister singing, equally as good. What a great job his parents have done
This Dude Is Scary Good , I Was In A Workshop With Him About A Year Ago With Another Great Jazz Player Called Torsten Goods (I Think Thats How To Spell It , Check Him Out ) . Torsten Was Talking About Chords And He Mention A D Major Chord , But Andreas Hadn't A Clue What He Was On About , And Then He Pulls This Kinda Shit Off ! Hah
C'mon, he doesn't know a lick of theory? Bullshit. That's just another way to hype the kid up. He obviously knows all of his scales, modes, and chord inversions, otherwise he wouldn't be able to play jazz. If anything, he just doesn't know the name that goes on any it.
He knows it - now whether he knows he knows it, or is capable of expressing it in words is another matter - another matter that doesn't matter... this kid "gets" music on a level most of us can only dream of no matter how much we "know" - if we want to understand flight we learn aerodynamics, a bird doesn't need to
A bird flies without aviation theory. Good analogy.
Andreas "flies" without ever needing to know what a flattened ninth means in English, and what b9 signifies in the maths of harmonic structure. His understanding is wordless, numberless; it's aural: he hears it, he plays it. We learn the English and maths of music because we can't do it his way.
He is very happy when he said derry jazz festival, he will be playing next year at the same time at the derry jazz festivial 2012, incredible talent and a worthy young lad.
john mayer is just good at another style of guitar playing. its not that either of them are better or worse. Andreas is beast at jazz, John is beast at blues. Nuff said.
@dalilmexicano Pretty sure this kid would smash John Mayer in blues as well, he plays an awful lot of blues licks that mayor wishes he could play and understand
He seems to be in the Bireli Lagrene or Jimmy Rosenburg school of advanced-preteen players. Why the hell is it always the gypsy jazz players who can do this???
@ibanezbloke becasue gypsy jazz learn you some reachable basic jazz concepts, lots of chords positions and rich arpeggios such as 6/9, 7, m75b, 6, major7, minor7, dimished, with that vocabulary you are able to play what you want. I play guitar since 8 years and Gypsy jazz since 3 years and jazz seems to be a lot more accessible to me, gypsy jazz is a very good entrance door to the jazz stair.
Haha... why all the talk about other guitarists? Personally, I think he's going to become the next Andreas Varady.... ;-) And won't that be a wonderful thing?
This amazing Jazz guitarist is incredible talented and i seen him in the derry jazz festival, he was fantasic. I will be uploading a new vid with him. It great to avertise this on the late late show.
this is not real this dont make any sense. the way this kid is playing now, people, including me among others, have been and still trying to get near something like that for years! and he's way younger than me!
This phenom gets only 3,436 views of his talent, while the 'Friday' video gets 42 million. I may never stop shaking my head. It'll be amazing to see what becomes of him, based on how talented he is right now.
Holy crap in a basket. How old is this kid? This is incredible, most older experienced guitarists can't play this well. Jazz guitar is crazy hard to do well, the fact that he has not only the technique but also the feel down is really impressive. Hope he continues to do what he loves, cause he does it damn well.
What a wonderful tradition of music for this little genius to gravitate towards. He'll do it (what am I saying, he already doing it) justice. Good on you, kid! Keep it up...
@edbangfan Omg .. why always people compare musicians! I love pat metheny and john mayer .. they have rated styles playing the instrument .. Varady will be the future Varady .. and I think that he agree with me!

I need to get one for myself. Then I gotta learn to play half this good.

what's your problem with john Mayer??
bl2d77 6 months ago
Of course, he's saturated in Benson via Montgomery ... and why not?
At his age I liked TV themes and cartoon music and Lulu.
