  • I think the man by telling this wonderful woman Miep Gies "You don't need to speak" when he introduced her, was rude and unpolite and made us all miss a wonderful opportunity to actually hear words from a HERO of humanity. Even if she had spoken a foreing lenguage and not english

  • lol, what a bunch of ignorant sheeple!!

  • Anne Frank is such an inspiration for many people including myself, and will be for generations to come! RIP Anne and Miep!

  • >Anne Frank

    LOL.

  • Anne Franke's "diary" was a poorly written piece of fiction, virtually without any basis in reality! Just another piece of crap in a long list of jewish propaganda!

Just like the numerous "testimonies" of "holocaust survivors", there are so many outlandish, improbable, and IMPOSSIBLE aspects of this compiled, edited, and re-edited "diary", that one can only view it as a comedy, to make it tolerable to read!

I can't believe that they force school kids to read this garbage as though it were real!

  • @Bongofury361 Why not say that Otto Frank and Miep. In front of their face.

    This is the real deal!

  • I think only the coldest hearted Nazi could read her Dairy without changing the way they see the world, its that moving that anyone who reads it there should be a strong effect on them for the good...

  • Miep is a hero! GO MEIP GO!

And Anne is such an inspiration! R.I.P. Anne! :)

  • @maromar1000 RIP Miep (February 15, 1909 – January 11, 2010)

  • Anne did make it to Hollywood!! Her Story, and LIFE will NEVER be Forgotten. For those without the Humanity to appreciate it.

Remember, one day you may be in the same Situation. Then you will want Humanities Help. Will you deserve it!!

  • why did he say to her "you dont need to speak" she could have retard

  • @CurvesRsexy08 No! She was not very good speaking English. She was more Intelligent that most will ever be.

  • miep died two days before this video was released on youtube

  • I wish she spoke.

  • Parts of Anne Frank's diary are written in ball point pen which wasn't available until after the war.

    Judenpropaganda !

  • @lies4us You've got a couple of things wrong. Anne Frank's diary was written in fountain pen ink - scientific tests have proven that - and ballpoint pens were available throughout the war, because patents were taken out as far back as the 1880s.

  • @lies4us you fail

  • she seemed like she wanted to speak....

  • Jon Blair looks like he's about to cry!

  • I wonder if these Hollywood celebs have any real idea of how much she and her husband, Jan Gies, suffered under the socialist Nazis during WW2.

  • miep gies's karma is what kept her alive for 100 years. what a brave woman.

  • @ethorner1 It wasn't karma - I think God was watching over her and her late husband, Jan Gies.

  • god bless miep gies and oscar schindler

  • I LOVE ANNE FRANK :)!!!! SHES THE BEST ! (nazi sucks asz !) if i could only get my hands on NAZI ) UGHH! COLD BLOOD SUCKERS !

  • she was 87 there...she looks good!

  • yet another person making millions because of the holocaust-industry

  • '' you don't need to speak''. I think he meant '' Don't speak! I won, you didnt, piss of!''

  • '' you don't need to speak''. I think he meant '' Don't speak! I won, you didnt, fuck of!''

  • '' you don't need to speak''. I think he meant '' Don't speak! I won, you didnt, fuck of!''

  • '' you don't need to speak''. I think he meant '' Don't speak! I won, you didnt, fuck of!''

  • Miep Giess did a lot more than find the diary on the floor, she cared for the family for 2 years while they were in hiding. sacrificing every comfort she had to them, and risked her life everyday. she is my personal hero

  • Miep Gies probably didn't speak much English and that is why she didn't say much.

  • what a beautiful little gem.

I doubt he was cutting her off, however. It doesn't make sense that a Director would shut his guest up after paying such esteemed tribute to her during his recognition speech unless she didn't really want to... and chances are, she probably didn't want to, you know? I'm not so sure, of course, but that seems more logical then him telling her to keep quiet.

  • All those frigging phonies in the audience. Especially those in the front rows, knew the cameras were on them and do they put on their serious face forward! Miep was too classy to be with the likes of them.

  • That jerk should be told in no uncertain terms He should have let her speak. He tried to be a celuloid hero!! What a wanker!!!

  • @kevlength You've misunderstood. Miep was not a woman desiring to be at the centre of all the attention. She agreed to come to this major event, but I doubt she was feeling comfortable, and by saying "you don't need to speak" he was putting her at ease. You don't need to speak. You don't need to adress this huge crowd.

  • Through Miep, Anne made it to Hollywood.

  • Miep Gies FTW

  • She was really cute on the movie now she look's old.

  • @remix111able She's not even alive, she just passed away recently.

  • excellent film

  • haha, asshole. If anything, I'd rather hear anything that heroic woman has to say than him.

  • I would've given it to FIDDLEFEST. Very inspiring story.

  • weird that he said: " you dont need to speek" She looks like she wants toe say something..( everbody was expecting it anyway.

  • I THOUGHT MIEP GIES DIED ON JANUARY 11th THIS YEAR! O.o

    When were the Oscar's recorded?

  • @Nyrvannah this is over 10 years ago i believe. she is dead

  • I THOUGHT MIEP GIES DIED ON JANUARY 11, 2010. !!!! o.O

    When were the Oscars recorded?

  • 1996

  • This was from the 1996 Oscars ceremony.

  • RIP Miep Gies.

  • did you see gwenth and brad together? love the anne frank book

  • @suburbandrudgery yeah isn't that weird haha! now gwenyth is with chris martin (coldplay) and brad is w/ angie

    its funny how tiime changes

  • 2.11 Is that Aniston. I know this has nothing to do with the video but she is so thin... All the Hollywood stars seemed to be at awe as they were appaluding for Miep.

  • Miep you are a charming person. Here need more people as you!!God bless you!

She was humble but she was brave woman!

  • Miep Gies , your a all time hero ! I am proud you where Dutch.

  • MIEP GIES WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!♥

  • GO ANNE FRANK GO!!!

    GO MIEP GO MIEP!

  • An extraordinary woman, and so truly deserving of that standing ovation. Meip, we'll never forget you. RIP

  • I wish she'd been given a chance to say something. If the orchestra had started to play her off - there would have been a riot. This is a woman that has been a hero to me since I was 9 years old. God bless her - her courage and humanity are extraordinary. I'm still in awe.

  • It sounded like he said "You don't get to speak".

  • Miep <3 Je bent geweldig vrouwke,

    you are amazing

  • The reason he said she did not need to speak is there is a strict time limit on "minor categories". This limit is 45 seconds which had already been over-stepped and so he knew the orchestra would start playing which would cut her off and would be unbelievably embarrassing for everyone

  • i wish even it was in german or other language...she was able to say something, but he was being considerate of her!

  • His end quote is interesting. They gave him an award, then he insulted the audience with his 'true hero' business.

  • At last the Academy put this on - thank you. How dare he put it in the head that she didn't need to speak - she deserved to speak more than John Blair!!!!!!!

  • She was a true hero,

and I'm sure she is with

Anne and the rest of the

    Franks now.

  • R.I.P. Miep Gies

  • She spoke well enough in the Documentary and it's it not like they subtitled her. They could have quite easily.

  • I think because she is newer to English, although she does well, and she would have been broken up. I don't think he meant anything rude by it. He is right about one thing, Miep is a true hero. The easy thing is usually the path, but she chose the hard one, and put herself in mortal danger to do the right thing. And we have Anne's diary thanks to her. If only we had more people like her in the world. If anyone here hasn't seen the documentary, I urge you to see it. Anne was so much more.

  • o sea!!, por que no la dejo hablar?

ella era la más indicada para hacerlo!

  • I could slap that man right in the face.

  • haah brad pitt

  • This is why "minor" categories such as this one really aren't minor at all. May she and Anne both RIP.

  • You don't need to speak?! WTF

  • I think he realized that it would be hard for her, since she knows (knew?) very little English (as far as I know), and no matter how long it's been, it must still bring back horrid memories.

  • I think it absolutley amazing that she is the one who saw all the horror's of WWII and kept Anne Frank and her family safe for those couple years, and kept the diary safe. Remarkable woman.

  • Se nao fosse esta senhora ninguem saberia da historia de Anne Frank. Pena que nao tenha falado na cerimonia. Morreu a semana passada com 100 anos.

  • "you don't need to speak" - what a dick!

  • R.I.P. Miep,

thanks for keeping the memory of Anne Frank alive

  • LOL @ "You don't need to speak!"

  • R.I.P. Miep Gies. Your simple action saved history & taught generations. Thank You!

  • Jezus, this is a precious video of Miep. Idd. She didn't have to speak but I also felt a bit of pitty she did'nt. Miep was the last women who knew Anne for real. Let Anne by a symbol for al the Jewish people who died in that war en let we never forget what has bin done to those people. Beware right now because it start to happen again.

  • R.I.P. Miep Gies :)

  • Why do I remember her speaking? I swore there was some clip of a holocaust survivor speaking at the Oscars for something like this.

  • Yes but it was just before this and its on the Oscars youtube site.

  • I think you're thinking of "One Survivor Remembers" about Gerda Weissmann Klein and which won for Best Documentary Short Subject that same evening. The filmmaker Kary Antholis gave her the podium after she won. She did get to speak, went over the time limit, wasn't cut off, and pretty much brought the audience to tears. This Jon Blair idiot should've done the same for Miep. Bastard.

  • RIP Miep Gies!

  • Anyone who's ever watched the Academy Awards and said that "minor" categories such as this one shouldn't be included in the telecast (or included in the awards at all) should watch this clip. May she and Anne both rest in peace.

  • The Diary of Anne Frank is a hoax, by the way

  • @nandesneto The diary has been thoroughly tested by almost every conceivable analyst for handwriting comparisons, stylistic writing, and the materials that were available at the time. The Diary has been conclusively proven to NOT be a hoax. To say it is a hoax is like saying the dinosaurs didn't exist. Narrow-minded pendejo.

  • she died last week, didn't she ? The old lady, I mean..

  • Miep, thank you for sharing Anne's story. If she was there I'm sure she would've loved seeing all the movie stars!!!

  • i love the oscars !

  • R.I.P Miep.

  • Might just be me, but when Jon Blair says to Miep "Do you want to speak?" she very quietly and politely says "no" back to him.

  • No, he clearly tells her "You don't need to speak," and her response is, "No?" As if to say, "Okay, I won't then."

  • Also, you can see her walking toward the microphone to say something when he leans over and says, "You don't need to speak." Asshole.

  • Also, you can see her walking toward the microphone to say something when he leans over and says, "You don't need to speak." Asshole.

  • whoa! the crowd was going wild!

  • YAY! Go Anne Frank Remembered!

  • R.I.P. What a brave woman. I wish she had spoken.

  • @nycflixchick

    yeah me too!

  • @nycflixchick I can't believe he told her she didn't need to speak. If anything she's THE person who should speak.

  • @646guy

Her being there was powerful enough.

  • @646guy Her English wasn't very good.

  • @646guy I agree - maybe she might have taught those people something. But then that meant they'd actually have to listen and not just hear what they WANT to hear. God bless Miep and her husband and all those true Christians who tried and sometimes succeeded in helping our Jewish bretheren. They are true heroes.
