Actually, Jorge Ben composed this song much earlier than 1976. This was just one of his Taj Mahal recordings. The tune was first recorded in 1972, on "Ben" album. So it was much before Stewart's "Do ya think I'm sexy".

You're right, Rod Stewart was a great singer (sounds a bit hoarse these days) but they definitely pinched two riffs to make that hit. Stewart & Appice would have been aware of Jorge Ben & Bobby Womack (a hero of Stewart's) who are real masters. Check em!

Jorge Ben threatened to sue Rod but Rod deftly outmanouvered Jorge when he made a statement that he ( Rod ) was giving all future royalties from the song to UNICEF. @allankbelo You wont find any plagiarism court case listing in the world for this song as there was no court case.In court a judge would have given the royalties directly to Jorge Ben and his publishers and he could have kept them or given them away himself. But this isnt the case as there was no plagiarism court case and Rod`s decision to give the royalties to UNICEF was accepted by Ben and his lawyers. That`s why Rod remains the writer of the song but doesnt make any money from it.
