I believe they were already weakened before that. That is, the British occupation of Egypt ended 1954, two years prior the nationalization of the Suez Canal. Add to that failure of the Baghdad Pact. The British saw it coming, the French saw it coming, Israel was impatiently waiting for it to come. That is why it took only 3 months from the day of the decision till the tripartite aggression.
