Nicely done on the chug-by vid. BTW, which highway beside the railroad right-of-way, and who was the original owner (presumably since purchased by the UP) of the tracks?
@ervans I actually suspect it was the Western Pacific, which was known to operate in Washington State. As I understand things, the SP didn't get farther north than Oregon, via he Northwestern Pacific and/or Nevada, California & Oregon subsidiary roads.
between 1:05 and 1:15,The steam from the engine seems to go to road and block the visibility of the car-drivers.Isn't that a potential danger to the drivers on the road? Why did they build the track so close to the road?
My autistic son loves trains. He will sit on you tube ALL DAY watching train video's! Keep them coming! He so much would like to be on this train. "MOM this train is cool. 2010 steam passenger train!"
That was an amazing vid by you, ervan... wonderful position and a wonderful catch- and I'm a diesel fan :P. If you EVER find Conrail power up there (unlikely, but it could happen), please by all means catch it on video! :)
Excellent video Ervan, you must have one of the best cameras I've seen, the quality is crystal clear. Nice looking steam too, all the American steams are so big and powerful. Thumbs up
@adtonko Yes, I noticed a diesel too, one car behind 844 at about 1:10 and 1:26. (I would not know what class of diesel it was, though). I don't know if it was providing any power; perhaps it was there as "insurance" in case the steam loco broke down; I don't know.
I feel so very blessed by the fact that I witnessed first hand the last days of steam on the Illinois Central in western Kentucky when I spent summers with my grandmother in 1957, 1958, and 1959. If I had been born just two or three years later, I would have been too young when the steam locomotives were retired to remember them. There was a set of tracks just 100 feet from my grandmother's front porch, so I got some real nice looks at those old steam locos.

Hi.I love your videos, and i also love trains.May i ask you something?Which Kind of trains are Fast&Cost-effective?Steam-powered,Diesel or Electric?
shadowboy24121995 1 year ago
@shadowboy24121995 I think diesel at this time
ervans 1 year ago
@shadowboy24121995 I would say that Electric locomotives/trains are the most efficient and of course the fastest ones

i love watching steam trains
crapper1 1 year ago
@crapper1 Thanks, the diesel is for dynamic braking. I think dynamic braking might be required by law. Also the chance of a mechanical glitch

0:40 start
1:22 wow, That looked similar to a Lionel engine I had as a kid.
1:09 what is with the sudden emission there? Is this the result of acceleration?
1:15 The truck moving away from the camera on the highway is driving into a blind spot of soot while going around a curve. (bit dangerous)
prayfortruejustice 1 year ago
@prayfortruejustice Yes, it is because of acceleration
