  • in my opinion he sounded good when he was still young..

    but,....

    he sounds legendary now

  • u suCK hES a rOCK nROLL sINGER u SUCK!!!!

  • All this did was show me how much amazing Brian Johnson-era ACDC material I'm missing out on

  • Proof he didn't sell his soul to the devil

  • On the albums, his voice actually sounds great. But in live performances, I think it's almost unbearable. Can't blame him as he's been straining his voice for over 40 years, but I wonder if it would sound better if he sang in his normal octave.

  • All this showed me was how much more I like Bon Scott

  • @PunkRockIsFreedom77 I'd like to know how Bon Scott's voice had been nowadays.

  • it's because he doesnt sing...he screams

  • @conley1337 have you ever listened to the stiff upper lip album? the best evidence for brian is NOT screaming

  • It stayed the same throught the 80s, by 1990 it sounded high and strained.

  • He liked to gargle with boiling hot oil. The song "Cover You in Oil" was written about it!

  • The due is over 60, and who cares anyway? AC/DC still rocks!

  • It didnt degrade, just changed - just like Bon's voice would have if he were still with us today.

  • I think it's just raspier...which is a good thing for good ole' rock & roll

  • fuck you

  • He is over 60 years old! I think he sounds amazing for his age and he is still powerful. Listen to Robert Plant or Ian Gillan who had to transpose songs to lower keys to be able to sing them. Brian still rocks and rolls and hope he will for a long time!! Plus he is a sweet and funny guy!

  • 1: He is in his 60s

2: He smokes probably a pack of cigarettes a day

do you really think your voice would hold up to the test of time? .. Plus to me I dont really hear a real degradation of his voice, just a lower register.. and if you listen to Brian talk you will hear he has a deep voice as is, and he sing in a much higher..

  • @pbf98 That and when you are screaming like that in all the songs i'm sure it takes a helluva toll on your chords. His voice gets scratchier with the later years but it only adds to the awesomness of the songs

  • Honestly, I really like how his voice has developed, especially hearing his voice in the Black Ice album. I think he sounds the best he has sounded since the early-mid '80s.

  • People are stupid. A person goes through changes that we cannot avoid, muscles degrade, stress happens, things don't work like when you were 22 etc. The mans voice is unique and is a staple in Rock n' Roll. There isn't anyone in rock that sounds like that anymore, everybody is sporting the "Beiber" And, yes Barrett's syndrome has some impact on the voice box due to acid reflux and can damage the vocal cords, but to say the man is less because of the change in his voice is offensive and dumb.

  • Brian Johnson Rules... Hes a badass f@@kin singer...

  • Yeah. What brendanan said...

  • Degradation, my ass. He sounds great after 30+ years of rippin' it up. Party on, Brian!

  • Um he developed cancer of the esophagus ( Barrett's Syndrome) in 2009 so his voice will have changed for sure. I think he still sounds great.

  • Cut him some slack. As long as he's been doing what he does, I think he still sounds great.

  • Nazareth's Dan Mcaffertey is another veteran screamer still going strong..

  • I think his voice took some damage somewhere around 1985 or 86.. and it would never again reach the raw animalistic bite of Back in Black. But, oddly, he's slowly started getting it back in the last few years.

  • Brian had fantastic technique during Geordie, when he joined AC/DC he had to adjust to the different more hard rock style.

Brian has said in interviews that Mutt Lange pretty much had to re-teach him how to sing for Back In Black. So,Mutt Lange is largely responsible for his screaming AC/DC vocals. If he'd used the more clean Geordie thing, yes his voice would have probably been mostly unchanged today.(like Steven Tyler's) however,I love Brian's voice, and he's always sounded great to me, love him.

  • @nitroangus23 Do you have a link to some of those interviews? It would be interesting to check them out.

  • Whats so degrading?

  • Hes a real cool guy and a hell of an entertainer but his not singing proper and treating his voice like shit has caught up with him. He sings from the throat. Not good. And he smokes. But it wouldnt be the same ACDC any other way.

  • well after it degregated, THE RAZORS EDGE you can tell, but then AC/DC did 'black ice" and they put his voice to use. It improved for BKLACK ICE but he needs to stop smoking. you forgot Geordies ALL BECAUSE OF YOU and Ac/DC 's "GOT YOU BY THE BALLS" YOU FORGOT!

  • Lol yeah he was at his best in the 80's when he was new for AC/DC

But he's still amazing. And yeah he's over 60 years old lol. It would be uncommon for him to say the same.

  • dont notice much of a "degradation" here. either way, the guy is 64 years old and has been at the game for more than 40 years... not many people in any profession, nevermind one of the hardest rockin bands in history can maintain such a high caliber performance for so long. you should have made an axl rose or robert plant video instead. that being said, we'd love to see how you can hold as the ACDC front man if you think you can do better.

  • i have seen ac dc 4 times in concert and i think he is more comfortable and sounding better than ever Brian you fucking ROCK keep it up!!!!!

  • Other singers' voice also went, Rob Halford, Klaus Meine, David Coverdale, Gary Barden, Roger Daltrey... They got older, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, tours... that's life ! Plant's lost his voice in the 70's, he was not even 30 !!! But he is a great singer. And Brian is not an exception. AC/DC rocks !

  • For me his voice is great in the whole video, sincerely.

  • He is an amazing singer, NOBODY has a voice like his. He's so underrated. I LOVE BRIAN<3333

  • This video is a fucking shit. ACDC FOREVER. BRIAN IS GOD.

  • Coldheartedman is a PUSSY ..... period

  • Brian Johnson is thankfull every day ....Why ?

Because he is famous only because of Bon Scot's death ....

    Period

    End of discussion

    Fate is a motherfucker !!!!

  • before 1990 is when it started to decline. before that I think it kept getting better over time

  • I like Brian's voice a lot, it seems that on every album it has a different tone to it. But technically speaking it is a degradation. So there is no reason to down vote this video.

  • the best of all the 80's rock singers......brian is the king!!!

  • your brain is in degradation....

  • A voice buit to rock and roll

  • Who Made Who was the best he has ever done, But gone nothing on Bon Scott.

  • & It's still awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer the later voice, sounds like he gargles with rusty nails and petrol every morning. Which is bad ass.

  • where is chain gang from?

  • More Style Since 1990.

  • THIS VIDEO is a fuckin´ degradation.

Even Brian´s bass sounds better than

Donington 91. Maybe not high notes but

    ROCK N´ FUCKIN´ ROLL!!!

  • Compare Brian with Robert Plant and tell me who the better singer is.

Brian is like fine wine, he gets better with age.

  • @ColdHeartedMan1979 You are absolutely right my friend

Robert Plant can't sing for nothin, he never could

Brian is amazing, in every way

    I salute you!

  • @MasterTterb98 Thank you so much. :o)

    Cheers!

  • @MasterTterb98

Never compare Led Zep to AC/DC ....period

So Brian Johnson is the man ???? Whatever you squirt to ??

    ENJOY

  • @onlyafterdarkness Go to hell man

    ColdHeartedMan1979 agrees with me....

  • @MasterTterb98 Pay no attention to douche bags, my friend. I'd love nothing more than for the bastard to say all that to my face. Friggin' keyboard tough guys, ya know?

    Cheers!

  • @ColdHeartedMan1979 I hear you dude

  • @ColdHeartedMan1979

You know nothing about music ...zero

Not gonna debate that any further with ya boy !!!

    End of story

  • @ColdHeartedMan1979

for the last time here !!

Brian Johnson is a decent singer ....not great ...he lacks the pipes

Brian Johnson is a good guy...not gonna argue that either here..

Brian Johnson benefitted from the death of Bon Scott...... any arguments on that point here!!

But to even think that Brian Johnson is in the same league as Robert Plant ????

No fucking way .... Now if Bon was still alive and singing ? who knows

No need to even fight here ..... History proves my point !!

  • Comment removed

  • @ColdHeartedMan1979

    FUCK YOU

  • @onlyafterdarkness You know a lot of big words for someone who hides behind their keyboard posting derogatory shit to others who he knows is right

  • in my opinion brian sounded best during the razors edge album

  • Brian is over 60 years old what do you expect? I do not think his voice has got better but it has changed dramatically and i like the sound of it.

  • @jak67709 I agree! Change is not for the worse in this case! :)

  • @evikpain88 It's just a shame that others don't feel the same as you, because i think they are missing out, Brian is lets be honest getting old but his voice is still fantastic and i will stick by what i have said until the day my testicles explode.

  • The whole degredation was overworked vocal chords and improper technique. He should have been coached on using whatever proper technique there is\was.

  • @gerbile3 Proper techniquie?

I see where you're coming from, but Brian knows what he's doing.

He may not be no vocal specialist, but he knows how to sing properly

  • @MasterTterb98 if he used proper technique and took care of his voice, he would still have almost all of his range of his younger self left. Its the same thing that happened to Robert plant and countless other rock singers. They dont use technique, they dont take care of their voices and they think it will last forever, and it doesnt

  • @gerbile3 He's not in a church choir. Do you want him to be in bed by 9 every night?

  • @barbarossaUK so what your saying is fuck taking care of yourself?

  • @gerbile3 Robert Plant's voice went because of drugs, Brian's voice went because he is 64 years old, i would love to see you sing at 60, and i am not implying you can sing now either.

  • @jak67709 he lost most of his upper range from 1980-1982 on tour. Age is age you can't fix that. he does amazing for his age. Citation for the plant fact? im p sure he didnt take care of it Plant lost his upper range over time from 1969-1972

  • I actually like his voice better since Black Ice (2008 onwards). Fits the music better.

  • He is old, drunk and smoke (nobody can forbid it ...), that's all ! But he still had in 2008 (in studio) an acute and enough strong voice...

  • He's like a black person he don't crack ...

  • To all ACDC fans:

Im an ACDC fan myself and i say YES HES VOICE IS GETTING WORSE, cause hes getting older , you know. And for all of you who say 'no! hes voice is becoming even better!' - you are morons, who cant admit the obvious things. fuck you. i hate you.

    P.S.

i aslo admit that his voice is OK for his age.

  • I think it's more an evolution.

  • i dont think its really degradation and even if it was the guy has been singing for almost 40 years and hes always been that loud so it his pipes are a little worn then hey its okay the guy is 64 years old so he may not sound quite as loud and shrill as when he was in his 20s and 30s and thats okay he still rocks and so does all of ACDC

  • Really? Degradation? I wish there was some part of me that "degraded" like this!

  • this is called nodes. he has calluses on his vocal chords from straining his falsetto to much, Rod Stewart, Axl Rose and Gene Simmons also have em. they just give you a different sound, that's all!

(and btw, for the music of AC/DC, Brians voice is F***ING PERFECT,

nobody wants to hear Highway To Hell sung by choir boys. his voice is supposed to sound like he gargled with gasoline.)

  • Brian Johnsons voice has got him a spot in an iconic rock band , the respect of his peers , the chance to meet and know alot of legends of the music biz ,and a boatload of cash .

  • Degredation!? Watch THIS video from 2007 (it's an amateur recording but the sound quality is excellent) and then you tell us his voice has "degraded!" watch?v=Fn82yAnl7C0

Has his voice changed? Yes, that's a natural part of age, but has it degraded, well there is no noticeable degradation in Brian's voice here!

  • It's not a degreadation, its just a change

  • wow ...cant believe all the negativity on here????? I love AC/DC, but all that screaming HAS taken a toll on Brian's voice...he has lost a lot of his vocal abilities....but so what??? they still rock though...I think its a funny video, you could make the same case for almost ALL rock singers...it 's hard to sing that way for 20-30 years and sound the same...

  • Dumbass if he didn't have that gritty voice like he did AC/DC would've been as badass as they were, and had the hype they did .... his voice sounds alot better now too, compared to 2000. I think he'd gone and gotten voice lessons to clear it up, and when I got the Black Ice album I was suprised how much it cleared up.

  • to be honest, his prime was the 90's to 2005, he's still really good though and no one in the world can do what he does

  • Black Ice sounds better than a lot of 90's stuff. When Razor's Edge came out I responded, "Geez, what happened?". A lot of people I knew said they didn't notice but it was like night and day compared to 80's AC/DC. Still a great singer and a great frontman.

  • @dmanonbass When I firsy heard razor's edge I thought "wow, he still When I saw them in Tacoma on the Stiff Upper Lip tour i thought, he sounds BETTER than ever! Black ice i thought "how the hell can he still sound so great" As for Axl comparisons, go watch a few vids from the current tour, that dude sounds BETTER than he EVER has.

  • @lagr08 I went and saw Axl on his current tour and he was definately using something to alter his vocals. It sounded very fake.

  • @Inspector711 I too saw Axl this tour, front row, and he isn't using a damn thing to alter his voice. Just be intellectually honest for a moment inspector. With ALL the haters in the media out there just waiting for GNR to fail, little ol' you saw something NOT A ONE of them did? Just the fact that he sounds so amazing that folks like yourself are openly suggesting it can't be real proves my entire point.

  • @lagr08

That heroin is a cool drug ? emmmmmmmmmmm

  • Brian is a good vocalist ... but in my opinion BON is the best !

  • You would really have to hear him live to notice the voice change. The recordings don't make much of a difference.

  • all our voices change over the years... but i think he still sounds great!

stiff upper lip is one of the best albums they made, and black ice has a lot of great songs, too... i still like brian johnson's voice after all the years ;)

    (just my opinion)

  • Brian gets better and better!!!.

  • Degradation??????????? what the fuck!!!

  • Singing or not, voices do change over the years with age, like any part of the body. Give the man a break...he's over 60 years old. He's still rocking on stage when most over 60s are rocking in a chair.

  • compare this to axl rose's degradation in half the time.. Brian's voice is rocking as much now as it ever has!

  • All voices change and by the time I hit 30, I couldn't hit the notes I did at 20. So do we just throw all vocalists to the curb by the time they hit 30? Then you lose personality and that is more than worth a couple notes on the scale.

  • yeh man he sounds the same all the time...maybe that is your point...but don't change what ain't broke...still awesome 30 yrs going...

  • I rocked-out to all those songs. Thank you. LONG LIVE BRIAN JOHNSON AND AC/DC

  • Whoa! Very astute of you ThunderRock41, he doesn't sound the same at 63 as he did in his 20s - there's a revelation!

Who cares? He's getting older he's bound to lose a bit of his range, they de-tune to Eb live now, I for one don't give a shit - at least they're still doing it.

  • Watches the Degradation of the Likes in Bar above

  • Degradation of his voice? Hell he still sounds great. Where's the degradation? I can see some slight changes in his style of singing, some of his newer stuff he just sounds a bit grittier because AC/DC has made some changes in their playing style. Other than that his voice hasn't degraded.

  • so ur point is he went from great to great?

  • Degradation? WTF?? Its much better!!!!

  • la voz ha ido a mucho mejorrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I reckon he can still sing like Geordie. Even during the Geordie period he already had the classic AC/DC rasp in his voice. It just depends on how high or low he sings.

  • I SEE BRIAN PLAY WITH GRE BILLINGS AND HE STILL SOUNDS GREAT !!! I LIKE HIM LIVE !! F THE BIG SHOWS I SEE HIM CLOSE UP SOUNDS GREAT!!!

IM no singer but any one put someone down after all the all the great music they gave and give us !!!????

  • I SEE BRIAN PLAY WITH GRE BILLINGS AND HE STILL SOUNDS GREAT !!! I LIKE HIM LIVE !! F THE BIG SHOWS I SEE HIM CLOSE UP SOUNDS GREAT!!!

  • Degredation? Fuck you punk ass faggot bitch. Johnson sounds the came as day 1. Blows all other bands away, including Stones.

  • I think it's hillarious how some get offended because ThunderRock41 uses the word "Degradation". I'm a huge Brian Johnson fan, but I realize that his voice has degraded in an undeniable way. I'd once read about a university prof. that was amazed that Brian's voice held the way it has - regardless of what he seemed to throw at it (LONG tours, songs like thunderstruck etc). I'm just saying, don't get too offended. I'm sure even ThunderRock41 doesn't think Brians's vocal degradation is a bad thing.

  • He is not a machine. His voice wont be perfect forever.

  • P.S. On the early albums he sounded almost like Dan from Nazareth. I'm sure he made the change in voice to separate himself from them, since acdc prides themselves on not sticking to trends.

  • I'm sure he made the decision to sound like this from album to album for one thing. He always asks the boys how he needs to sound. Plus a re-do of the best songs from geordie came out in the 2000s, and he was able to sound the same as on the original geordie albums. and as for his work with acdc, he tucks his voice more, to sound harder, and get an inhuman tone, on purpose. And on Stiff Upper Lip, his use of a deeper voice for the intro, and less rasp enabled them to go back to a blues sound.

  • And yet strangely: Best album, Stiff Upper Lip!

I agree he leaned on his voice way too hard, especially on Those About To Rock - but notice how much Joe Elliott copied THAT sound on HIGH 'N' DRY and 'PYROMANIA. Both of them were stupid to abuse their voice.

Elliott's voice didn't have that same raw sound after those early Def Leppard albums. He backed way off, and his voice sounded kind of fucked also. Is Mutt Lange just a really bad influence?

  • anyone believe that brian is a super human?? so I think this is a stupid title...

  • I feel like a more appropriate name for this video is "A Summary of Awesome"

  • Comment removed

  • But he is in good shape, for shure ,nowadays ,comparing to others from his generation.Together with Klaus Meine,Dan Mccafferty,Halford...Plant,Gillan,Rod Stuart,Axl all lost it ,Dio had lost some of his voice before his dead too,but was fine still.

  • Unfortunetely voice is not like wine...look all the great singers are losing it...its a natural process...all the body's functions are afected including the trough voice strenght and control and timber...what can we do ...will happen to everyone...aging

  • ac/dc is my favorite band, but thunderrock41 is right.

hell, even brian johnson admits that his voice took a turn for the worse.

    He still sounds cool though.

  • Brian Johnson has done a very good job of following something that could not be followed - a bit like a heavy metal Uncle Albert Trotter.

  • shame on you for insulting an all time great

  • his voice change in 1983 in 1985 he recovered his voice, but on the 88' the change is irreversible

  • is brian balding or something because ive never seen him without that hat...

  • His voice is different, that's fact. But no one can say that it is worse, because that definitely isn't true!

  • I love Brian as much as all of you....but there is no doubt that his voice has suffered from the years of singing like he does....first time I heard Geordie was a revelation....in that band he was like a more powerful Rod Stewart, but when I saw them on the Ballbreaker tour, his voice sounded like a dog who was debarked. Don't get me wrong...I love him, and I thought he sounded a lot better on Black Ice...but you can't deny his voice has been damaged...but heck, he's in his 60s!

  • @decristo1021 I agree. I started to notice that he was losing his voice in '86. Still he was great during the miami show in 1988. I love Brian more than anyone, but I have ears, and I can tell that, on Razor's edge, hesounds like donald duck on qualudes. I gotte say though, that on black ice he's a bit better.

  • Brians voice is just fine.

On the otehr hand the singer in Nazareth has now got a poor voice compared to younger days.

  • "Degradation"?? What are you talking about! A guy in his 60's, +30 years (ab)using his voice very hard and rough? I hope I'm "degraded" like that when I'm 60!

  • I respect Brian Johnson and what hes done with AC DC but Bon Scott sounds better and more clear vocally

  • I wouldn't say his voice degraded, more like he can't reach those high notes like he used too.

  • interesting video, but the raw vocals is part of the ac/dc sound!

  • The voice of brian isthe best in 1980 and now!!!!

  • Nice compulation, but the title don't make sense.

  • late 80 early 90s were his best years!

  • Well his voice got a little raspier, probally because of his smoking, but he's voice is FAR AWAY from degradation!

He can stil scream the buggers out your nose! lol

  • Hold on there man. How has the AC DC fan aged since then? lovely long thick hair? great drinker? all nite headbanger? Great in bed and faster? Quicker on the feet? Hey the guys sixty , ok ? Hes singing like few other vocalists this side of Nazareth, and Slade Used to do and dear GOD bless him for keeping at it . This music is not a walk for a vocalist. this aint no rolling stones mumble here. I HAVE SEEN A LOTTA PUB BAND HANDLE BON SONGS BUT SHOUT FOR SEND FOR THE MAN AND WATCH THEM SHUDDER

  • Brian's voice and not degraded, not every singer has that technique to last 39 years singing that way.

  • Now Brian is 64 and still sings with the last great rock'n'roll band. Well, AC/DC has made world tour (not 9-10 concert-per-year) since 1980 and stopped in 2000. So they recorded 8 albums in 20 years (Back In Black, For Those about to Rock, Flick of the Switch, Fly on the Wall, Blow up Your Video, The Razor's Edge, Ballbreaker, Stiff Upper Lip) and never stopped playng all around the world. A singer who has an high tune risks to "kill" his vocal cords. Brian sings with belting, not with falsetto

  • I still think Brian's got a fucking awesome voice, not quite as powerful as it once was, but on black ice he sounded the best he'd sounded since flick of the switch

  • @hardrockerdave94 Agreed.

  • Brian had a magnificent voice when Geordie cut 'House of the rising sun.' He still sounded good on 'Back in black.' By the mid-eighties, his voice was more or less gone. I like the man, he's a great frontman of a great rock'n'roll band, but facts are facts.

  • Degradation? have you heard Robert Plant lately?

  • Hey! His voice sounds just as good now as it did 30 years ago, theirs singers who were in a newer band and sang regularly who sound like shit now. So if u ask me brians voice has held up pretty well over the years. ROCK N' ROLL TRAIN!!!!!

  • degradation , seu filho da puta vai tomar no cú, viado.

  • Its an unnatural way to sing for a man who still has his balls intact. But I think hes done well.In fact i think his voice sounds better at lower keys and would like to hear more of that.

  • Hey, he was listenable in 1974. Shame his voice sounds like someone rubbing a cactus on their balls while chain-smoking cigarettes now.

  • Brian used to sound amazing, shame that his voice has degraded so much.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos hIS voice is still on the edge, anyone who thinks the opposite,is just jealous on my Tyneromeo.

  • Brian pulled these lads out of a hole when bon passed, like bon he,s a megastar, just type in iron man shoot to thrill on youtube, Ac/dc bon and brian kick the ass of anything since?, AWESOME...

  • Seriously!!! IS this really a degradation. These fuckers have been a staple of rock for almost 40 years and there's a post on here about his voice after 30 years. Do you think Bon's voice would've held up this good over the years. Bottom line is if you weren't alive when they were in their prime then you should be appreciative that you are around now to see a rock legend.. period.

  • i like brian johnson he has a different era of clothes all are epic

  • lets just put it at this. Brian johnson is an amazing singer but he was better when he was with geordie and the 80s

  • No your right, his voice sounds like he has phlegm in his throat. It has degraded over the years because of age and screaming all the time.

  • Ofcourse the Black Ice songs do not sound like the ones on Back In Black...but that's the point of it, AC/DC keeps bringing new and fresh music. Voice changed yes, degraded? No...

  • If it was really degrading, he wouldn't have a voice anymore. A little known fact is that he actually sings pretty quietly, with the gain turned up. He's a master of giving the illusion of loudness.

  • It's still pretty cool he can sing like that after almost forty years!

  • This is like saying the Degradiation in Roger Daltrey's voice. It's just age.

  • You can't find one singer who has consistently toured and recorded for thirty plus years whose voice has not slightly worn. It happens to everybody. Sixty year old men do not sound like they did when they were thirty. This video is pointless.

  • moi je trouce que bryan a une plus belle voix maintenant il chante du blues comme personne!!!pour moi acdc c'etait bon scott le meilleur chanteur!!!!!

  • WTH!? He still sounds great dude.
